I was just wondering if it would be possible to heat up an 8 inch CZ coil or something like that and shape it into an elliptical coil? Thanks,

The inductive balance between the Rx & Tx coils are TOO easy to get it out of balance. Then..... you have to deal with less-reliable ID.
