5 gallons of dirt

Took some dirt out in 5 gallon buckets from around stump from where I had already dug over 200 relics. I wanted to know how much stuff was still in some of that dirt. I have done one bucket seiving it out and washing it over a fine seive. The dirt has been too damp and compacted at this particular area all summer and fall, so I had to bring it home to process it.

Results

42 pieces of iron (12 were metal buttons)
10 partial pieces of relics
3 buckle rings
3 non fe clothing buttons

I knew there was still alot of stuff in the ground, but was surprised at this much in a small amount of dirt. To get the rest of the good items in this stump area I will have to keep sifting. This is one of the aspects of this hobby I like so much....never know what the next swing might bring!

Hmmmmm..... Once again,,,,, Sounds like you don't need a detector! Isn't it amazing how much stuff is in the ground..... and MOST of it is masked!
