1949 class ring, 3 other gold finds, and some silver

Used noise cancel #11, audio gain = 30 with the 18”x15” SEF coil, Pro coil, and the Minelab 8” coil. Sensitivity level varied depending on coil.

Got in only 3 days at the beach over the last month, but got 3 gold rings and a gold pendant. Also got an old silver crucifix, 2 silver dimes, and a silver WWII nickel.

Day 1. Used the 18”x15” SEF coil with auto sensitivity running between 17 and 21. Did an area search of a section of the negative tide zone, and got an old silver crucifix with chain. Switched to the Procoil and searched part of the high tide line and got a corroded 1943 silver nickel.

Day 2. Used the large SEF coil again to search the location where corroded WWII era nickels periodically accumulate. Got a brownish 3.72g 10k 1949 class ring, a 1941 mercury dime, and a 1940 nickel. Closer in from the target line, got a 5.65g 14k white gold ring with an unusual greenish corrosion.

Day 3. Searched another area of the negative tide using the big coil. Got a 2.92g 10k gold band. Switched to the Procoil with manual sensitivity around 25, and checked the rocky shoreline area for small gold that may have washed in over the last several weeks and got trapped around rocks or in pockets. Got a .77g 14k, 13-star twin-flag pendant. One side had a black corrosion layer of some sort, but the other side appeared to be scoured clean.

ID = inner diameter (in millimeters)
Procoil auto-sensitivity = 16
Rings air-tested with ring parallel to coil, unless otherwise noted

carat ID grams depth FE-CO max depth description
14k 20 5.65 4” 12-11 10” white gold ring
10k 18.5 2.92 4” 12-20 9” gold band
14k ---- .77 3” 12-02 4.5” double flag with 13 stars pendant

10k 18 3.72 3” 12-10 4” 1949 class ring –parallel to coil, split open
4” 12-02 8” -parallel to coil, split closed
4” 12-12 6.5” -ring face parallel to coil

Here are the before and after cleaning photos.
The top row is the 1949 class ring. There was mud and small stones attached to the face of the ring by a green corrosion layer. The ring has a split in the back, which affected detection depth. The ring was recovered face down.

The flag pendant required electrolysis, salt-vinegar baths, and baking soda rubdowns to remove most of the black corrosion. It has an interesting design with 13 stars in each flag.

The white gold ring had a strange green corrosion to be a 14k gold band. It failed the 14k acid test quickly, but the 10k acid took a while to dissolve the streak. It appears to be only 9k - 10k by both acid test and density. Have a similar 750 (18k) small white gold ring that failed the 18k acid test, but passed the 14k acid test.

The 10k gold band came out of the low tide zone in very good condition, and required very little cleaning.

The silver Crucifix reads “I AM A CATHOLIC, PLEASE CALL A PRIEST” and ”STERLING”.

Here are before and after cleaning photos of the silver finds.
The coins are a 1941 mercury dime and a corroded Roosevelt dime. The 1941 mercury was recovered in the negative tide zone, while the Roosevelt dime was near the high tide line in the rocky area.

Here are some of the other finds.

The coins are; 1 ruble, a corroded 1943 silver nickel, and a 1940 nickel.

Man, that's what I would call a DOOZIE of a hunt! Way to go winking smiley Just curious, but, I'm guessing you we're hunting wet send. How far out we're you...ankle, knee, or, just the wet water line?

Congrats on the all-you-can-eat buffet of finds!!! Joe

Only followed the water line out. Had around a negative 1.7 foot low tide, which opened up a lot of area that is normally covered with water most of the year. Heavier targets sometimes move in and out of this zone, depending on the tides and storms.

Believe it or not, that was a Memorial holiday find. Unfortunately, unable to date most jewelry finds. A lot of coins and jewelry can date back to the mid-to-late 1800s at this beach.
