Hey all,

2nd Gold coin find in the last 9 yrs smiling smiley

Went back to my trusty Brothel site tonight for a 2 hr hunt. Was checking on a few other sites out that way to see if I could get into any of them but they're not ready yet so I opted for the backup and boy am I glad I did!

Last time out I used the CTX 3030 when I found the Seated dime and 1865 Indian head

this time was the Deus's turn!

found in a mix of machine gun iron - was reading like complete junk (#s jumpin from 29 to 36) and sounded like tin crap but being where I was = "dig"!

Also worth mention:

1867 Injun in VF/XF cond. (full Liberty and nice)
1865 cruddy 2 cent piece sad smiley
Huge Rimfire cartridge of some type - looks like whatever lead was in it could take down a buffalo!
Found Abe Lincoln too smiling smiley

Pictures tell the rest of the story... (Enjoy) and thanks for reading/lookin

Absolutely stunning! I have yet to find a U.S. $1.00 gold coin...... and it is my most sought after coin........ due to it's tiny size.... and low conductivity!

It was 'holed'.... so as to place on a string......... to NOT lose it! (Obviously...... there's a flaw in the thought-process...... as...... it did not work!!!).

Your 1867 IH is new/flawless!

You may claim that you found $1.03 in change today!

Awesome Wayne! (Even if you only found $1.03)

Big congrats!

Thanks Tom!

If you look close - you can tell it was "punched" with a nail or something and not "drilled" ;-)

The Injun is very nice - one of the best I've ever dug -- it does have a tiny blob of crud on the reverse -- gotta work on removing it without doing any damage!

That's a lovely holed dollar coin, the IH is in great shape and the relics and 2¢ peace ain't bad either. The relics that you are finding there tells a story, great old age indicators and I really like the Spencer 56-50 rim fire casing, I have found several over the years. I bet there is more there to be found, looking at the amount of holes dug, I'd pound it.

Terrific finds! Congrats on the gold coin, especially.
I have someone who wants to show me some "drinking" house sites as well as some prostitution house sites he knows. Who knows what might be there?
I hope I can find out.
Again, congratulations!

And if that gold coin sounded 'scratchy'..... terrible, non-repeatable...... with low ID's all over the spectrum............ and was found with a Deus, , , , , , I speculate that virtually no other detector would have found it.

((((( And just think...... if the area is 'carpets of nails'...... at best........ you may only find approx 4% of all the non-ferrous targets with the Deus! )))))

What's interesting:

The penny is worth more than the dollar.

It wasn't so much "scratchy" as it was hollow and crackley sounding mixed in with all the iron Tom

I know the site well and was working at a snails pace when I happened to catch the target/tone and stopped to investigate.

I've hunted the site approx. 7 or 8 times now starting last fall and have found something good every time I've hunted it.

The 2 center is the 2nd one I've pulled out of there but the 1st one was very nice. This one was in an area that I've went over many times so I was suprised to find it where I did. The Indian is probably the 6th or 7th one. Several buttons, a few silvers including seated and barber, 3 or 4 nicer buckles, a 1/2 dozen suspender clips, horse shoes, and a cool heart shaped lock as well as some other interesting items have come out of here too.

The good thing is is that the soil is tilled at the end of each season so it turns the soil up and brings new targets into light for me to find ;-)

Exactly = rare date and due to being an off center strike - it might be worth even more than book price ;-)

The 2 Cent coin is a very large coin..... as compared to the tiny $1 gold coin. And........... if this 2 Cent coin was difficult to find....... imagine other $1 gold coins handicap's...... detecting difficulties....... in this same area. It does not take much to 'mask' a $1 gold coin.

Agreed!

I know there are a lot of coins, buttons, etc. in the site being masked.

Of interesting mention is:

I'm not the 1st guy to have swung a detector at this site... Turns out (according to an elderly woman who's owned a house across the street for decades) that she has seen 3 or 4 others hunting the site over the yrs including 2 guys that hunted it several times over the course of a spring/summer and fall as a team about 5 or 6 yrs back... She said they knew the history of the site too because she talked to them a time or 2 while they were there...

I'm just glad that the land is tilled 2xs per yr (spring before the cash crop goes in and fall when the winter wheat goes in)!

Here's an interesting mention/food for thought too

that gold piece and Indian Head were found on the fringes of the field (right along where the grass line meets the field where no chemicals/fertilizer are sprayed while the 2 cent piece was in an area where crops grow -- so -- we can see the difference in conditions of coins dug where little to no chem/fert is used VS where it is...
