New F75 update...new coil arrived
December 18, 2014 05:18PM
UPS lady just dropped off my NEL Hunter coil for the F75. Daniel @ Fisher said it sounded like I may have a coil that had went out of tune for being the R.C. of my problem. Instead of sending my detector to Texas during the busy holiday shipping times...and probably not getting it back until after the new year...I decided to not ship the machine in yet and just order a coil in which I knew would only take a couple days to get here. I opted for the Hunter because it is the same size as the stock coil on the F75. I hated to buy a coil that's the same size as what I already had...especially if it didn't make any difference. But if it did make a difference, and the problem was indeed the coil, then I would save some time on waiting for it to get down there, for them to fix it, and then send it back. Enough rambling.

So here are my air test results with a Quarter, Nickel, Dime, and .58 Minie with the STOCK COIL in Disc mode and All metal.

9.0 Mode. 99 Sens. BP mode. 1 tone.

Quarter - 14.5"
Dime - 13"
Nickel - 16"
Minie - 14"

9.0 Mode. 99 Sens. Motion all metal mode.

Quarter - 16"
Dime - 14"
Nickel - 18"
Minie - 16"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are the results of the Hunter coil at the same settings as above:

9.0 Mode 99 Sens. BP mode. 1 tone.

Quarter - 16"
Dime - 14.5"
Nickel - 17"
Minie - 16"

9.0 Mode 99 Sens. Motion All Metal.

Quarter - 19"
Dime - 17"
Nickel - 21"
Minie - 19"

---------------------------------------------------------------------

As you can see, this is MUCH better!! I guess it was the coil after all. My machine now matches my buddies machine...except mine is a ton more stable at those settings, versus his that is so chattery that you have to listen close to tell whether you're getting an actual signal from the metal or from EMI. There's no way possible he could hunt with his at those settings with his machine. I could with mine. Very easily.

My machine jumped about 2 inches in disc mode, and the biggest jump was the "dead" all metal. We're talking a 3 inch gain all the way across the board in the all metal.

So you guys that are having a little bit of trouble with horsepower on your machine...it may just be your coil. I'm not pushing the NEL coils by any means. That was just the one I chose since it wasn't that expensive and I could have it here quick just to test it.

Glad you figured it out.

Wow very nice results! So how does this coil compare weight wise to stock? Ive been looking at those coils..was thinking of the ultimate 13" or the 12x13 nell

sounds like you'll only need to send in your faulty coil for replacement, not the whole enchilada....

Glad you got it sorted out Daniel!

Are those AM numbers tones or variation in threshold?
Either way it is a big Improvement.
By the way what does yours show for manufacture date?
The the replacnment one that FT has shipped me is 12/12/14.

Hi Daniel,,,,I hate to play Devils Advocate here but my AT gets 1-2" more (air test) with my Nel coil and I know my stock coil is good....Perhaps there is still something not right with your 75?,,,If you send it in & they correct something maybe you will get 4" more than your buddy?.....It seems like FT has been putting out a lot of bad coils lately....JJ

Dan,
happy you got your machine perkin'. Before your numbers I was hesitant to send my 3 month old machine in--now I will give FT a while longer to get any kinks out and send my 75 in for upgrade. Thanks again. I also detect some chagrin from the competition.

Well Daniel, I guess you won't be turnin' her loose after all!

Heck, I may get one after all. Plus one of them coils like Daniel got. Those airtest completely blow my G2 air tests out of the water. I know that alot of folks say things like: "Who cares about air tests?" Well......I do. And I appreciate when someone takes the time to publish their results.
Thanks Daniel. And Merry Christmas to all!!!!

Pacman -- Those are repeatable signals. Not threshold wavers. I could hear a little bit of waver in the threshold at further distances but I always air test to the max that I can get a repeated signal.

Jimmyjiver - My main goal was just to reach the same performance level in all metal mode as the non updated machines. The audio still doesn't sound as beefy as the older version but it is a ton smoother and the signals are there. I think I'm good for now. In a way, I'm already going to get better depth over my buddies machine cause he can only run his at about 70-80 sensitivity in order to not be drove crazy with EMI noise.

If you guys have the warranty, I would let Fisher fix the problem and maybe send you another coil. I only got the NEL in the same size because I don't have the warranty for my F75...so I would have had to ship mine to them, have all the time involved in waiting for shipping and return, and then had to pay for whatever repairs out of my pocket. In my case, I thought it might be faster and cheaper just to buy a new coil to give it a shot.
