F75 LTD2 w/DST. What the hell?
January 26, 2015 08:29PM
Just got my early, camo F75LTD back from Fisher. Unit powers up showing 01-15-14-00-41.

I first checked my old test bed in my backyard using my reliable ETrac. The EMI was extremely bad at Noon today as the ETrac settled down in auto with sensitivity = 15. Running at Auto+3 produced an unstable detector. I found my 6" silver dime but my 7 and 8" dimes were 'lost'.

Out comes the new F75. Turned it on in DST=9.0 and tried to run in BP at 0 DISC and 50 SENS. No go! Backed SENS to "0"... Still unstable. Upped DISC to 15 with no benefit. Changed mode to CL with no improvement; detector is totally unstable. Reset to DST=9.1 with no improvement. Then I change to the older modes.

Unit quiets down in DE and JE, BC, PF. I run SENS=50, DISC=0 and pick up my 6", 7" and 8" dimes! What the hell!!! I've never detected the 8" dime in DE... ever! The original modes are now hotter than ever.

Obviously, the new software (hardware?) is improving the standard modes too.

No AM testing has yet been performed. More to follow...

You're the first person I've read about having the upgraded F75 unuseable using DST because of EMI. And I haven't read anyone noticing more depth at all between the upgraded verus the old. Now I have read where folks are able to runs sensitivity higher and keep the machine quiet, hence the extra depth. You might want to take your detector to another place and see what it sounds like.

You might want to take your detector to another place and see what it sounds like.

Yes, and return later tonight when the EMI seems to always lessen.

Ground is moist but not saturated... perfect for digging.

F75 detector roulette. Never know what your getting!

In my case it's EMI roulette. Still can't run BP mode in my test bed at SENS=0 but DE runs at SENS=99 w/o a chirp pounding my deep dimes. ETrac shows little improvement barely getting the 7" dime. The 8" dime remained lost with the eTrac in AUTO. AUTO+3 is unstable.

I move 100 yards into a golf course fairway behind my property and BP at SENS=99 is totally stable.

It's not the unit; it's my environment.

That's good to hear. I sent one in this morning for upgrade.

I had an incident on a college campus with the F75-2 2 weeks ago that made it tough to use in one area of the campus. It also shut down 2 E Tracs that were in the same area. Then out of the blue it stopped. All md's were working great then. I changed over to the 10" concentric and mine was more stable and usable where the E Trac's had to cut way back to the point they left the area to hunt.

Good info as I am debating sending in my F75 LTD camo in for upgrade and time is running out. Looking forward to further reports.

My Gen1 DST upgraded F75 was unusable on my first trip out due to massive EMI from some kind of railroad related EMI.

Aside from that, it's been very stable when I rehunted spots I've hunted before with known EMI presence.

It's not stable inside my house, nor do I expect it to be in the middle of Silicon Valley with all the crazy stuff I have running inside my home smiling smiley

BTW I sent the F75 back to FT this morning, so I'm hoping that it works just as well when it gets back, but has the 2-tone mama bug fixed as well as the AM depth issue resolved, aside from that it's been kicking ass and taking names!

Hi go-rebels,,If I'm interpreting what you are writing correctly....You are saying that the DST don't really work?...But on the other hand you are experiencing some very satisfactory depth that you did not previously have?....JJ

No jimmyjiver... quite the contrary. The fact that my F75LTD2DST running in DE runs like my CZ3D is huge news. I've always hoped Fisher might make a modern CZ3D in a lightweight package; maybe this DST enhanced model is it. And DST enabled DE might be the cherry on the sundae for me.

I've never found a place to run BP or CL at any SENS > 90. Now I can. Is it significant? Only time will tell...

Very interesting, go-rebels. It was close in 4h tones, not including the emi.....no emi/4h tones = cz3d/lightweight/ergo....am I on the right track?

I wouldn't wait. The improvement is significant.

If I were Fisher I'd market this as an F85...
