$1 gold coins during CW

Did the officers get paid in gold throughout or was this just for a limited time in the beginning?

Dude finding a gold coin in on my bucket list for sure!

Found a 2 1/2 gold coin about 13 years ago. It was a 1854. Will never forget how hard it hit on my detector. The sound was so smooth. It sound like 3 nickel put together. Was using a Minelab se pro. First and last gold coin I have found to date.

At least in my area the only gold coins that have been found in CW camps that I have heard about, tend to be early war camps. Coinage in the last couple years of the war in camp sites seem very scarce. Mark
