Those first generation pull tabs are now historic artifacts. I knew they would be . Here is a nice thread that shows where I purchased one while on "vacation" Most of us thought it was fun. Ha I still have it unopened. Probably worth the 99 cents.

Thank you for the kind words. I am glad that you joined the forum and I hope my helping guide you to this site was helpful. When threads like this play out they can be fun and this is one that I really enjoyed. Meeting someone new to me and to the forum is always a plus. I have been referred to as the pulltab of the internet before but I'll take "the man" as a compliment today not that I minded the pulltab title.

If you're talking about my Code Of Ethics, I think they were pretty complete. Ha I hate rules but they are necessary so I don't tell the rule makers what to do. It's the changing rules that are hard to keep up with sometimes. Most rules are not solid but rather up for interpretation by the rule makers so I don't think anyone should worry too much about following them once you get past the basics. There's only one way to find out if you've broken one and then you have no idea what tomorrow brings.

Interesting to read about the 99 cent ringpull. I don't think we ever had ringpulls like that here in the U.K. I'd go as far as saying I'd be mildly pleased to find one, just for the novelty factor. Maybe if any of you guys are planning on eBay-ing your stash of these things, ebay.co.uk would be the place to list them......

That probably would be a good idea. The first generation ones from 1962 did not have a ring. I found out that the pull tabs with the rings are referred to as ring pulls over there when I watched Detectorist. That show is from the U.K. and a very nice show in my opinion. I think the first episode mentions the ring pulls and e-bay but not the first generation ones as you talked about. The early ones may have not been marketed over there on beverages.
Re: HIJACK MY THREAD

I think we stuck with traditional glass bottles with screw or crown caps for quite a long time.
And we still have completely removeable ringpulls, I often see them as fresh drops in public places. Some are quite old-style, with rather long beaver-tails, these are from a milk-based drink called "Nurishment", which has no doubt been using them since the '70's. It's something to do with the heat-processing they use: "Nurishment uses a retort processing method, whereby the cans are sterilized by superheating them for a long period at high temperatures." . And the classic 1980's tabs I see are, I understand, from an imported Chinese beer called TsingTao:

And I'm glad you liked "Detectorists". It's known that actor/writer McKenzie Crook frequented UK detecting forums while working on the script. It shows, as it's very authentic, with some nice little details.

Yeah he does watch the forums. Here is a response to someone's e-mail.. I don't have the recipient but it is on a public site somewhere. I did not save that part when I posted this some time ago.

Thanks for your email and your kind words about the tv series.
I have to admit that, in a rather cowardly fashion, I have been keeping an eye on the forum but I’ve never actually posted.
I wanted to avoid getting personally involved in a discussion but I couldn’t resist having a look at what those in the metal detecting community were saying. Sorry if that’s a bit creepy.

I’ve been blown away by the response Detectorists has got on the forum and I’d really like to thank people who’ve posted positive feedback.

I know when the show was first announced a few people were understandably nervous that it would be an ill-researched parody of the hobby. Where people are passionate about something they have a right to be protective of it too.
But, as I said early on, I only ever intended it to be an affectionate and realistic (almost) look at a fascinating pastime.

I’m thrilled that metal detectorists themselves gave the show a chance, enjoyed it and could relate to the situations and characters.
Even though the show had to appeal to a wide audience, it’s been the views of the detectorists that have been most interesting to me.

I wanted to make the detecting bits of the film as accurate as possible but without getting bogged down in details that would bore non-hobbyists.

I too, wince every time I see Lance throw down his CTX at the end of episode 1. But it was the only take we had from that angle. I hadn’t noticed Toby mistreating his machine until I got into the editing suite otherwise I would have had strong words.

We heard this week that the BBC would like a second series next year which is fantastic news.

I’ll get writing and I hope you enjoy the second series as much as you’ve seemed to enjoy the first.

I’ll continue, if you don’t mind, not to post on the forum. (You might want to set up a separate, hidden forum where you don’t feel you’re being watched).
But please feel free to post any or all of this letter on the site.

Thanks again for your support.

Mackenzie Crook.

I was going to post a link to a thread on the mdf uk forum, where that email was posted. Seems you've already found it.

I have non-detecting friends who watched the series, and enjoyed it. The eccentric farmer and his invisible dogs were liked. The absense of canned laughter is one of its attributes, too, I think.

I think that you just broke rule #6 Harold, by the way anyone want to buy a nice Lobo ST with a set of sw600hp's (SkiWhiz 600 ohm headphones). sw600hp sounds pretty professional doesn't it, lol. Not really trying to sell my Lobo...... just messing with Harold.

There's really only 12 members with MPD.

Glad you found the site. The first step is admitting you have a problem---"People often arrive at the Out of the FOG website feeling a range of emotions from anger to bewilderment to hopelessness from trying to cope with the confusing behaviors exhibited by a personality-disordered individual." Of course, you could just not visit those forums.

Hey Ski...Youll enjoy that Lobo ST...Especially if you add the round Brown 8" donut..

Thing loves low conuductors intermingled with iron..the trick is how close OR below 2.5 on the disc can you go and appreciate it...

right in the 2.5 disc range its deadly..Not quite a Tejopn but a whol lot smoother on rejection....

I feel it order of the all time best for Site unlocking form tesoro I would put them in the first 3 order as

1-Tejon
2-Lobo ST
3-Bandido 2 umax..

The Bandido 2 umax was as good or better than anything before it in site unmasking in iron...all others are just variations of it...

The Tejon is the best moving forward from the Bandido 2 umax and the Vaquero and Cibola series were based of of it but less Gain....

Teh LoBo St...well it was a Dave Johnson design with the extraordinary Tesoro Disc circuit ...uses the Lovely VCO disc tone and in All metal VCO tone...the Tejon has a lot of the Lobo in it...Yet the Lobo stands separate also for Autotracking...and old school clean disc..

you have a good unit...Hang on to it...there wont be much jewelry left in a park once the Lobo St hits in on !!!Nickles dont have a chance as does coins on edge..

Thanks Keith, appreciate all the info. I am on the lookout for the brown round coil. I had/have a chance to get a 5.75" widescan coil but figure the 8" concentric would be better.
