Help dating ax head,

Picked this up yesterday at an old site near my home, Have found similar ones before up in gold country but this one was dug from an old 1860's school house location. The school house location has additional history to it based from an early 1852 town other side of river, I'm hoping the ax head is an earlier one.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm thinking 1850-1860's maybe earlier?

Appreciate help dating this ax head, Thanks!

Paul

Hard to say age some broad axe and hatchetts are still fairly modern, though yours seems to have age. hh

Not an expert Paul

But

The only sites that style of axe head show up on around here are 1840s/50s even if the structure/building was on the site longer.

Very cool find.

Thanks Hobo, guvmore, MichinganRelicHunter and Keith,

Great, possibility it's an older one with a slight chance it's a later version. These make great display pieces, appreciate the help gang and Keith for naming the type of hatchet it is.

I'll share this with the owner, Thanks again.
