Turned 47 today. Hunted a little in the 80's with a radio shack machine that could not pick up anything at all lol. Then became more interested in 2002. On and off since then.

I'm 33 started when I was twelve with an old blue box whites gold master borrowed from my uncle who got started in the early 60s with a home built machine then he bought a metro tech. Anyways as most of you know that whites took batteries14 if I member right but I made some good finds and I'm still digging!

Sonny, I'm glad you brought this topic/thread up. It certainly is an eye-opener.
I do speculate that this forum (this group) of folks represent the 'very dedicated/serious' bunch. The "Burning Passion" ....... life-long hunters.
Yet............. I also speculate that the bulk of the people that purchase metal detectors....... are much younger.......... and............... in short order......... their metal detectors end up in attics/closets/garages etc....... (primarily due to incorrect expectations).

I think I'm starting to get the picture. No wonder all intelligent questions get answered on this forum. Tons of knowledge/experience. Definitely not the kiddie pool.

62 years old, used my first detector around 1970, one that my father had, I think it was a Mustang BFO unit.
The Mustang would find stuff if it was laying on the ground, but it was fun for a kid to use.
Started with my own detector in 1978 when I bought a Garrett Deepseeker ADS.

I'll be 66 in November. Still get out quite often. Can only stay out for around three hours in this oppressive South Texas heat. Restrict myself to clad hunting as relic hunting is a bit too demanding. Still love the hobby.

I'm 38 been hunting since I was17. My son started detecting with me when he was 10 and he's now 13 couldn't ask for a better hunting partner! He's chapped my tail a bunch on great finds! Him using a little Ace 250 and a 5.75" coiled Compadre. Me swinging 500-1000 dollar machines at the time of the chappings. LOL
