Only one old coin but!
November 22, 2015 11:15PM
Only one old coin yesterday but it is a beauty!
A friend of mine invited me to meet him at one of our towns older parks yesterday telling me
that there aren't many coins to be found but when you do find one its good.
After 4 hours of swinging my 13x17 coil with only clad finds and a junk pendent in my pouch I finally get
a 6" deep 12-44 and out pops this 1912 S in what looks to be at least EF-40 condition.
Hard to believe a coin can sit in the dirt for a 100 years and come out looking this good.

My friend only found one old coin too but it was a key date 1926 S mercy in Fine to VF condition.
Goes to show you don't need a lot of finds to make for a good day.

I read a piece the other day, Gent- talking about hunting pounded sites. He referred to this kind of coin metal detecting as bottom feeding.

Well, you can count me in on the "Bottom Feeding".

What a nice coin!!!!!

Congrats..

Thanks everyone! Spokane area in Eastern Washington State.
We get a lot of S mint coins but not many real old coins.
I'm always happy to see a Barber come out of the ground.

TN- In what way did he describe this as "bottom feeding"? Like, you should be on more instantly productive sites? You,I and most guys know that the easy ones are gone. What's left is harder to get in a lot of cases, due to masking, depth, etc. They can still be great coins though, look at this guys dime! If I found that I'd be high-steppin' for sure! "Bottom feeding..." it's certainly what I do a lot of!

Now that's a nice Barber!

12-44 and 17" coil sounds like your running a CTX?

If so what target separation were you using and what kind of sensitivity level are you able to run?

Yes CTX.
I have been running mostly the Dr. Tones Primary Mode from Andy's book. (Must have book for CTX owners by the way)
It was close to what I had built myself but his discrimination patterns ran quieter than I had.
Target separation - FE-Coin
Deep -On
Combined Tone Profile.
If I remember right my CTX was running between 18-20 while in the Auto +3
I also use a High Trash Mode on my Previous Mode button to check signals or switch to when conditions change.

That’s a very good photo. It shows the excellent condition of your coin.

Congrats.
