Good luck to those that like to dream.

Tell you what Goodmore.

If I hit it you'll get a CTX.

You want someone to swing it for you and dig your targets.
You'll get that too.

Check out this story. From NJ it seems.

Oh..the U.S lottery.....I thought you meant these things:
[powerballs.com]

We had something similar here last week with the U.K 'Lotto', they changed the number of balls / rules in October, with the end result no one seems to win anymore (?!!). The multi-week rollover meant the largest jackpot ever, which was actually won this time:

I was wondering to myself the other day if I would still be interested in metal detecting if I hit that Powerball.
The answer to myself was a quick yes.
I'm far from rich but comfortable enough financially to swing a CTX plus a few other detectors.
It's funny how finding a little Mercury dime worth just a buck or two still puts a smile on my face.
I'm sure it still would if I was worth a half billion. There's something about the challenge and finding history that makes it fun for me.
I think instead of wanting an extra shaft for each coil I would just buy a CTX for each coil just because I hate changing coils so much.

I'm an A hole now. I would still be an A hole after winning. So the money wouldn't change me at all. smiling smiley I have my $10 worth of numbers. I have a better chance of putting my name on a piece of paper along with 300 million other papers, dropping all of them into a football stadium...and then going and picking one random paper and it be the one with my name on it. But there is that chance winking smiley And you can't win if you're not in. I wouldn't buy you a CTX but you could say you knew the A hole that won. Lol

90 balls and odds of 232 million to 1 you need tons of good fortune to win it

Well Goodmore,
I indeed did hit the powerball-- one problem though

I only won $4

So not enough to get you a CTX.

Oh well better luck next time.

A friend of mine won $61.45 million dollars in the Powerball in December 2013. After all the taxes him and his wife ended up with about 17 million. They have done a lot of
good to charity and our church. The DID buy a few toys but have put 15 million in their foundation. As far as I can see it hasn't changed them that much.

That is like a 73% tax or so. You sure about that? Is it different for the lottery. If true, wow, sounds criminal.
I think here in Germany you don't pay any taxes on the lottery nor do you pay taxes on stocks and such held more than a year.

So basically, the government is the winner of EVERY lottery.

I won too...$4 for me also. lol

I had already been rehearsing my speech for quitting my job. Oh well. I even gave a stranded co-worker a ride home earlier this week and found a credit card in the Lowe's parking lot and was able to find and return it to the owner. I thought I had my good deeds down for the week to swing winning at least $1 mil of that big prize.

There is a local guy here that won around $35 million in the lottery back in the 90s. He is now bankrupt and lost everything. He didn't opt for the lump sum, and went crazy buying stuff. Soon, his monthly payments out weighed his monthly winnings and there was too much month at the end of the money. I may be an A hole but this guy was an even bigger one than me. He bummed a ride with one of his coworkers/buddies from Tennessee to Georgia to get a ticket. Back then, TN didn't have a lottery. He gets his ticket and after finding out he won, he didn't give his buddy a dime of any of it. If not for him, he wouldn't have had a ride down to GA to get it. Oh well...it got the best of him in the end.

There's no tax on gambling winning (including the Lotto) here in the U.K, either. It looks like the US has a 40% tax, plus maybe a state levy too?
I see Nevada doesn't participate in the Lottery, as it would compete with the casinos, etc. Funny.

Daniel - Wow, what a story! Amazing, but seems like medicine for that guy. Can't believe he didn't give the ride any money! I would have really really taken care of that guy!
Curious - When did his payments stop? I thought they were for a really long time.

Pimento - Yeah, it is amazing regarding those taxes in the States and how we don't have them here and where you are (which makes a ton of sense).
Taxes upon taxes is what it looks like. I think they also charge taxes on people who collect Social Security in the States? Not sure about here actually.

Albert -- The way I understand what happened, he was getting so much a month for X amount of years for the winnings. He went so crazy buying stuff (new trucks, boats, houses, etc) that his monthly payments were more than what he was getting from his winnings per month. This got the collections people involved and they now basically garnish all his winnings. Somewhere in the mix, he got divorced too and I'm sure that took a good amount.

David -- We ran into a snag with the Blisstool. I don't own a credit card, just a debit card. The card has a $1,000 daily cap on it. The Blisstool V6 package was over that amount and thus our card wouldn't work. When I purchased the GPX machines I would either pay cash or write a check for them. I suppose I will have to do the same thing to get the Blisstool but have been busy with the new house this week. It is finally done and we are now in the process of moving....while doing 10-12 hr, 7 days a week work schedule.

We were talking about this at work tonight and one of the guys on my line told more to the story about the winner I mentioned above. He worked with him for years at another factory. The winner was one of 3 brothers that worked out there and rode to work together for years. It was his brother that he rode with to Georgia to get the ticket that won. And I was incorrect on him not giving his ride anything. He gave him $100 and told him that should cover the gas. The guy I work with said it caused a bitter feud between the winning brother and the family. I don't reckon he gave any of them anything.

An update on our record U.K lottery prize. One of the winners still hasn't come forwards, nearly 2 weeks after the draw. 50 Million US Dollars, roughly.

They advertise the lottery jackpot paid out, typically, over 20 years or so, with accumulated interest. Most folks take the lump-sum payout which reduces the value, roughly, to half. Then the taxes are taken from that amount.
That's why the large reduction between amount won and amount received.

No, I haven't won; I just read a lot <g>.

This update on the unclaimed UK lotto prize is amusing. The lady claims to have washed the ticket with her laundry. I'm surprised there aren't multiple claimants, with 'dog ate it' 'dropped it in a puddle' etc stories.

Update: Of course there were multiple claimants, it's inconcievable there was only the one...
