[Inland Coin and Relic Comments] Tom 3h tone / 4h tone? F75

What is the difference betweent 3h tone and 4h tone. You wrote that the 4h tone is more like the CZ3D? I was in bad dirt today and the F75 was having a hard time locking on targets. I managed about four wheats and some cool buttons. I was using 3h tone and as the day got longer it seemed the F75 would not get snappy hits on targets more long and slower hits.

I thought I was getting more masking and more iron. I switched coils and the smaller coil didn't help. It seemed the ground was changing as the sun was heading on it way to the west for the sunset.

I did try the larger coil again and tried 4h and I hit a silver barber. It didn't sing out it was kind of a dirty high tone. What is up with 4h? I know you hunt in mono tone. I ues 3h so when I get a mid or high tone I look to see what the numbers are reading and I slow down. I will at that point dig a good target for the most part.

One more thing I know on the 4h tone the 3rd tone is for older coins as is the 4th tone and on the 3h the 3rd tone and the second tone seems to do the same.

But I did notice that the 4h seemed to work better in the bad ground?

Also we hunted in some bad ground and my buddy pulled out a sheiled nickel on the CZ3D he got a high tone. I could not lock in on the target. I got a real scratchy muted tone.

We dug it and out pops the nickel not very deep but crusted dirt that was eating the coin away almost like rust. He found a indian head penny and it was also caked on with cruddy dirt that was starting to eat away at the coin.

Any insight would be great I will make another Digging California video.

Your the best happy 4th

I had a F-75 and sold it, that 11" coil was to big and the small coil was just a dream.
I found 2 wheats today with the Edge and small coil, one of my friends was using a CZ 6a and 5" coil and the Edge & CZ play together well.
My other friend was using a old A.H. Pro backpacker, he has found some good stuff with it, like a 1922 silver dollar...at this site.
This lot has been pounded, so I feel lucky to have got the 41 & 44 wheaties.
There was a old buffalo nickel found today and a brass tax toxen and 2 old marbles, one was a big Bennington and the other one was clay.
I know there is still some good stuff out there, but there is so much trash.
They knock down the old building or house, load it up and haul it off and spread the dirt and trash around...
When I had the F-75, it seemed better than the CZ's on coins on edge.
Thanks for your help, I was going to post a picture, but did not see away to do so.

BJ ........ Overall, the CZ-3D with 5" coil should be the best combo. The 8" % 10.5" coils on the CZ-3D will also (potentially) unmask a few more "extenuating circumstance" coins. If you have time, read "Head-To-Head Comparison Testing" article.

Up-trade the CZ-5 & ID Edge for a F-75.....if you can! It'll open up yet another different window tangent of hunting experience.

Streak..... Your thought-process is perfectly on queue! I know of VERY few people of whom can tolerate "removing the mask" by virtue of 'digging a pit' to clean out an extreme hot-spot. I have performed this function many times. It's rough!!!... and my results have been on extreme ends; total disappointment or extremely stunned. Nothing in-between (yet). It is usually the "silent masking" that presents the greatest eye-opener....... and, I'm seeing a pattern. Pits with solid iron objects will mask some good targets; BUT.... pits that are littered with many tiny flecks of rust (inducing silent-masking) are the pits that usually produce much more 'keeper' targets. I have not dug enough pits to quantify/validate this data sufficiently thus far; however, , , I know that I have a 'bias' for more-so wanting to dig pits with a high level of disintegrated iron. Streak...... as you are witnessing....... a metal detector is merely a tool to bring you to the right spot.

I'm 99% certain I 've gotten all of them.......for precisely the reason you mentioned. I went back a couple of day later.......and detected all the iron out of the hole I could detect from the surface in stat all metal...than dug the whole little area to a depth of about 2 1/2 feet....and detected all the iron again. The net result was one more little indian. It was WORK.....as it is very rocky..and was up against a large tree (read BIG roots)
I did that same thing in Conn last fall when I stumbled over a little Reale Cache/spill in the woods. I dug 7 reales and two coppers from a 4' area........then dug it down a couple of feet the be certain I didnt miss a single one. I'm WELL aware of the problems of masking....and quite often resort to a sifter to be sure an area of interest is cleaned thoroughly. I only made the post to try to show an example of how well different machines handle masking/iron. The 75 is hands down the best I've personally ever used when it comes to ferreting the coins out of iron..........but it still suffers from it (masking).....if only to a lesser degree. I've also slooooowly come to enbrace mono tone............and 0 disc....only because 99% of my sites are old colonial sites that yield few modern trash items. Those settings have GREATLY improved my yields.....and unmasked a lot more targets....as opposed to hunting in 2F with a disc of 6. Thank for the reply.............. Streak!

I agree....One of my club members hunting a well hunted site at the Sheraton Sand Key Hotel (site of 1996 and infamous 2000 Hurricane Gordon FMDAC conventions) and found a small cache with note inside ID'g it as a prize from the FMDAC hunt.
Be careful. Don't EVER assume you got "all the REST of the coins" in that 6' spot. This is what SHE thought! Then..... you came along,,,,, found more coins.... and then this is what YOU thought! I would be highly inclined..... especially since this spot is a circle of only about a 6' radius..... to start digging up some of the larger iron objects first.... and see how bad masking is taking place. Sometimes you will be absolutely stunned..... and sometimes not.

..... This type of scenario is exactly what happens to me on a fairly frequent basis; especially with the advent of the T-2/F-75' extremely tight elliptical DD electromagnetic footprint. I could write volumes/books about all of the different experiences; ..... I just simply need the time.

Great report Streak!

Everything ((( including life itself ))) is a evolutionary process. And then interject 'individual preference/taste'. The minute' differences between the F-70 vs. F-75 (and other detector config's... for that matter) can sometimes determine the difference between having the ability of detecting for ((say)) a continuous 9 consecutive hours without fatigue.... or fatiguging-out at a earlier time and quitting. But..... to me..... if the differences are physically somewhat small,,,, I have a tendency to "tolerate" a lot,,,, ESPECIALLY if the electronics are superior and my success is good. Personally, I have no complaints with either the 'S' rod config or the 'pistol grip' configuration. I do know that on some different brand detectors..... the 'S' portion of the rod is NOT pitched enough,,,, the degree-of-angle is shallow..... and can be physically fatiguging. To capture..... then measure personal taste; ..... then convert it to useful marketing data for re-engineering purposes.....can sometimes be difficult.

[Inland Coin and Relic Comments] its funny you compared the MXT to The 75 Tom............

As just a couple of weeks ago we had the opportunity to do a bit of real world comparisons in the real world.
We were hunting an old grove I had found of all places.....just across the street from my house. It produced an even 100 coins.....nothing newer than 1880...with the bulk of the coins being 1859- 1874 indians....with a nice mix of two centers, shield nickles, flying eagles, and one three cent (copper) and one 1840 LC thrown in for good measure.
Well, my diggin partner was hunting a bit below me, and stumbled onto a little honeyhole. Now, she was a female, but dont let that make you pre-judge her skill. She is arguably the best female competition hunter in the states, and a pretty decent relic hunter too. Anyway.....she finds this little spot no more than 6 feet across....and soon she is on her knees pulling indian after indian out of that spot. I told here to take her time....and when she got it cleaned out.......I'd recheck it with the 75 to see if she missed any. Well......................she ended up recovering 17 nice indians from that little 6 foot circle......and when she felt she had gotten all that was there..... She hollered at me to check it for her.
I ended up recovering another 20 indians from that little spot she hadnt heard at ALL with the MXT. All were within 4- 6 inches of the surface, and well within the range of the MXT in our soil. The problem was............there were also about thirty nails in that little hole and they effectively masked the remaining coins so she couldnt even hear them. Every coin but ONE sounded off loud and clear with the F75....and there was no question they were diggable targets.
Kinda got me to scratchin my head as to how the MXT got an almost cult like following in Va as a relic machine. Go figure............... Streak!

First of all......it wouldnt be a new product. It would simply be a F75 with a different style rod. Hardly worth the trouble for First Texas.
Secondly......I FAR prefer the feel and comfort of the DFX/Xlt/F75 type pistol grip. While the ergonomics of the Fishers "S" rod detectors are a bit better than say the Whites Classic bend (something about the angle of the bend gives me forearm fatigue), I still find the pistol grip to be more comfortable, and think it causes less fatigue when I detect for 7 or 8 hours at a stretch.
I've had no issues with the build quality of my F75's at all!
While they may have trouble with a handgrip or two..over all I think its a pretty well built machine. I POUND mine...and it keeps on tickin!!!
probably closing on 1500 hours on my origonal one (14 months old now), and it still works like a clock.
BTW...if you havent gotten the 10" concentric yet........GET IT. not quite the separation qualities of the DD.....but AWESOME depth in a big clean field! I'm using it to clean some of my well pounded Colonial fields...and its producing,as the extra inches it gets is helping recover targets the Big DD couldnt get down to. (And thats DEEP).
Excellent...I could use some partnership on this to make it REALLY right.

Heard your phone message and you seem sharp as a knife, and sound like a heck of a nice guy.

This project, once completed correctly, could actually be newsworthy after a good find, or even before that if presented correctly to the media...which of course, would not only be great publicity, but think of all the "hits" that Thomas, your clubs site and mine would receive...might jump start a small landslide for the hobby.

I contacted a couple of police unions and received email back from a police chaplain/pastor named Frank Doig of NY State.
He was disabled at 911 ground zero, but he still volunteers alot...he is going to hopefully soon help me get through to some law enforcement, and i am in the midst of putting my final touches (my wifes actually doing it...haha) on a letter to Hilton, Hyatt, Holiday Inn...etc...).
i got your phone call...but this weekend is bad for me,
if im not water detecting (up at 5am) i am running the barbecue, lightin off works, playing bouncer in my backyard or once again failing at disciplining my dogs...but i will call you next week and hopefully thats ok for you. :)

Mike,
My club does a very commendable job at returning jewelry, particulary since our beaches are crowded with tourists. I am the president of Suncoast Research & Recovery Club, Pinellas Park, FL (Tampa Bay area) and retired Police Sgt. from St. Petersburg so I stay in touch with the local dept's. I would like to get involved with the hippo!

I'll call in AM

If Fisher is paying attention to feedback, they ought to know that they have a potential for a real winner if they combined the build quality of their F70 with the processor from the F75. I have both machines in my possession and looking at them it became obvious to me that if you took the F75 processor and mounted it the way they have the F70 and drop the trigger below the metal bar underneath it'll make for a more secure mount for the trigger and for the base of the processor. Also, I find that arm rest on the F70 is a better design with slots at the top for an optional velcro arm strap. Without the extension supporting the F75 processor you'll save weight as well. And, the S handle configuration of the F70 is a standard configuration that balances well. I think if you combined these features and called it something like the F80, with two coils - a stock coil (optional DD or concentric) and the 6" coil for hunting in trash. And set the price at a mid point between the F75 and F70. If Fisher did this I think they could recapture some of their former glory. Just my 2 cents worth.

My name is Mike Kleid (AKA: PanMan), from St. Paul, MN

I have started a nationwide search and recovery program which will be advertised in hotels and travel magazines as well as alerting different law enforcement agencies (which is a slow process but going very well).

It will be complete, hopefully, in less then 2 months time.

I would love to add you and/or your "club" to my list.

If someone loses an item, let's say, somewhere by a beach, a hotel with our info would contact you or your club to request someone to find the item...the "charge" for your services is up to you, but if you need any help with that, I've been doing this for years and would happily share my low pricing structure with any one in need of help.

We also would be advertising with other marketing resources which enable us to advertise nationally for all services including cache searches, and you can advertise locally using our page which shows you are part of an organization that offers these services, including property line stakes searches too if you wish.

This is all done with no cost to you.

I have been doing this for many years in Eastern MN.
In the rest of the country, where detecting is getting chopped down by government, here it is beyond respected...Washington County calls me whenever there was a reported loss at its lakes, and, they love it when i drop by once in a while to show them all the rusty nails and deteriorated bobby pins that i removed from the lakes before they became a hazard to someone...
It is appreciated so much, that at Silver lake in North Saint Paul, the laws says no detecting during certain hours, but me and my small crew have permission to detect there anytime, due to the fact we help them with their "nail and screw" problem...people who live by lakes have bonfires and put out the fires by throwing the wood into the water...the pallets they use as fire wood carry nails which end up on the city beach...now there problem is solved...it's a great relationship we all have here...
and we want it everywhere...YOUR COST??? NOTHING!!!

It's a service me and my wife decided to do...we hopefully can use our cross marketing-promotional skills to get free or cheap advertising, we love the hobby and want to do this.

Are you interested?

The site is www.TreasureHippo.Com

It is in the midst of being revamped to accommodate this new adventure, once again, it should be completed in less then 2 months.

All I need from you or your club is the OK and we will link a spot to your email and/or website from our site, and, if you or someone from your club wishes to leave a contact number to list, that would help greatly when "fast" attention is needed.

visit the site and send me a comment: http://www.TreasureHippo.Com

And hey, it was more of a local typ of website for me and some friends, but now I'd like it expanded...I will be getting rid of my blog area and putting a link directly to Tom's site...If you wish, e-mail me some pics, would love to post them...tell me something about the "finds" too...any help would be appreciated...it's not my site...it's all of yours, i'll just be running it...haha.

If you want to call me, that's OK too...651-771-7774

Sincerely,

My 8-year-old granddaughter loves to use my detector ever since she found a metallic arrowhead. But she seems to lose interest if she doesn’t hear anything for 5 minutes.

I have been thinking about putting a Y-plug in the headphone jack so we can both have earphones and hear at the same time. And I would do the swinging. It is a little hard for a 50 lb child to swing a detector.

Plus she loves to dig which I love.

If they find things they'll get interested. Like Tom Did!!
