The Simplex is a good detector for the money, but I never could stand the tones. They get annoying after a while. The original Legend with headphones is around 400-500. Much more pleasant tones with multi frequencies and tons of settings options.

Can someone explain to me how this is possible? From my understanding of how detectors work, I didn't think the magnetic field could "see through" metal if it was masking another target.

Yes I'm on v7. I'm afraid to change anything. Have to wait until this weekend to test and see if it will actually work on targets in the ground or if it's just an audio glitch.

Someone has stumbled onto another interesting bug. Thought you and Calabash might want to explore it. I can replicate this myself. https://www.detectorprospector.com/forums/topic/18785-xp-deus-ii-anomaly/#comment-198948

From my initial testing the default D2 programs are superior to the custom D1 programs I used to use. The D2 Fast program hits targets in heavy iron for me better than the old sonar program does. You will miss coins by notching because a coin co-mingled with iron will sometimes have a lower VDI than normal. If you don't want to be bothered with trash or odd shaped iron, then notch out everyt

Just got mine, so haven't had time to test to see if any of my D1 custom programs will work with the D2 multi freq platform. The multi freq aspect may give problems with D1 program settings. You can look up Gary Blackwell's sonar program and use the mono program as a base for setting it up. It works well for alerting you of nonferrous targets in iron because it uses tone breaks instead

Wonder if the ears you have a hold of at XP would give us any info on the possibility of a 5x9 coil? There has been no official statement from XP, and all I hear is rumors. Last I heard was no because the new chip/battery wouldn't fit in the 5x9 housing.

Multi frequency might punch a little deeper in gold country soil if iron isn't a huge factor. I've seen good reports on the D2 in California dirt.

In my experience the Deus 1 is unbeatable in iron. Haven't got my D2 yet to see how it will do in multi. My guess is that it will be used in mono with higher single freqs rather than multi in heavy iron. The lower band of freqs in multi freq machines tend to cause a lot of falsing on iron and mineralization. Have had some luck with the Nox in heavy iron in 20-40 khz single freq.

IMHO, Minelab's multi frequency isn't the best for heavy iron. The lower frequencies that are present like 5 and 10 are the worst about high toning in the iron. You will have better luck by using a higher single frequency like 15 or 20, and leaving the horseshoe on. You can turn the iron volume down so it doesn't drive you crazy. Also turn down sensitivity and raise your recovery s

The trench tests are almost as useless, but not as bad, because you are only introducing a small air pocket where you shove the coin in. At least the coil is moving and having to interact with the soil until it hits the air pocket.

As ghound stated above, the coil must be moving to be able to see and interact with the soil. Soil affects depth. That is how detectors are designed unless you are using a non motion pinpoint mode. The air spaces in the tubes disrupts that process combined with the stationary coil, and it becomes a simple air test.

IMO that test is a joke. Once you introduce air inside the tubes, it is essentially an air test. All of his depth tests are exaggerated because of this. I wouldn't try and relate that to actual depths in dirt.

My guess would be aluminum. You can sometimes get a one way hit on a non ferrous target next to iron. Pull tabs and small foil will almost always mask non ferrous targets. The frequency used also plays a small part in this as well.

The difference is the coin size. He is using a larger copper coin instead of a tiny silver dime. I'm guessing if he had used a dime, then he would have gotten similar results as Calabash.

I could be remembering wrong, but I think the main argument was that Keith reviewed, as well as sold detectors? Most established companies don't give products away without strings attached. I'm not calling his character into question because I don't personally know the man. I just tend to trust people's reviews more when they purchase something with their own money and point o

The Equinox will give broken tones on bottle caps if you raise the F2 setting higher but that will start to effect iron separation. I'm curious to see how a high bottle cap setting on the Deus 2 will react in regards to iron separation.

Multi frequency can be very susceptible to EMI. If you can single out which frequency is causing the most trouble by cycling through the single frequencies, then you could switch to a single frequency and mitigate a lot of the chatter. I wish someone would add a feature to turn off the offending frequency and keep hunting with the others.

I stopped posting on this forum. I look occaisionally to see if there are any new enlightening posts about "new tech" or just tech in general. Tom doesn't post a lot anymore. Maybe he doesn't have time? I maily visit other forums where there are a lot of technical conversations about detecting rather than what people "feel" about their detectors. This forum is dying

He has posted a few new videos on Youtube recently. He mentioned having covid. I don't see him post much on any of the forums lately. He might have gotten tired of the butt hurt crowd when he puts down somebody's favorite brand of detector.
