This Open Forum is now DISABLE to new posts due to the "Phorum" Forum Software being generally obsolete and basically no longer supported. Recently, the server that hosts this website upgraded to MySQL version 8.0.36 and Phorum 5.2.23 is not compatible with MySQL version 8.0.36. Depends on where I am hunting. Some sites I hunt have been pounded by me and others and are unlikely to have anything unusual so would rarely dig numbers below 12. At the rare times I am at a good site that might have good stuff I might dig anything from 1 up (at least until get tired). Hate to admit it but, other than site location, a lot depends on my attitude.

Funny thing is up until the start of last year I had been detecting for 15 years, almost all in parks. Then I went detecting with a couple guys who are good detectorists. Watching them, how much trash they dug (dig it all) and how fast they were NOT moving compared to me, not to mention the finds they were getting compared to mine,I realized one thing. I have found that a recovery speed of 4 is optimum. As you go higher depth decreases drastically, any lower and sweep speed approaches a crawl. But that's just me and my conditions.
