Sounds like the ground wire on the shield. I have repaired coils myself and the only hard thing is getting the seam apart to get inside and the rest is easy. Check this video out. Jim

I have had issues with the forum ever since it was updated. What I have done is installed Google Chrome and then installed Add Block Plus and now it operates like the forum use to before the updates.

I ran the SunRay coil and I think it was 11 inch and did not like it , then I purchased the WOT and it was even worse than the SunRay coil. Its hard to beat the stock 8" coil on them. I also purchased the Excalibur with the 8" Horse Shoe Coil and still have all three detectors.

On my Pro XL I found a 11 inch Hot Head coil that I run the signal balance in the 4 o'clock position with out chatter. The 12 inch Hot Shot coil was the worst , I just could run it past Preset. The 6 inch Eliminator coil I can run the signal balance wide open under power lines with no chatter.

There is a fellow that lives in my area that uses a 70's Whites 6/DB detector and has one heck of a Civil War collection that he dug all with the 6/DB. Has one of the best belt plate collection that I have seen and he told me that he thought of getting a new detector and looked at his collection then looked at me and nope I will just keep the 6/DB. Makes you wonder about tying up a lot of

I have been detecting 40+ years and the last big leap in detectors was adding discrimination . The boxes are smaller now and anything new is just a repackage .
