NASA-Tom,
Thanks. Good to know. It just reinforces that while a coin in clean ground will offer the nice "dot" on the 2-D display, any trash in the ground alters the situation considerably, with respect to the target plot. Great reminder and demonstration that the "ears" still rule over the "eyes," hands down, even when dealing with detectors with the most adva

VERY interesting information.
On any of those targets, were you able to determine what it was that was causing the "non-solid-dot" smear, on the X-Y screen? It would seem that there were multiple targets...did you find out what the "additional" target or targets were, in any of those cases?

Wally,
THANK YOU for following up on this! I appreciate it. I totally understand what you mean by "alot going on." I get it!
If there is any willingness to allow others to help out, we'd be glad to. I think this forum is a terrific asset, and I'm more than willing to do whatever I can to help. My website knowledge is low, by I have family members who are very knowleg

Wally,
I assume you don't read posts on the forum very often; I haven't seen any replies from you since you made this initial post. I sure hope you see this thread, and are willing to allow others to help bring the forum the rest of the way to where it needs to be...
Thanks!

What an incredibly detailed, and most surprising deluge of information.
What you describe -- detecting the hollow lungs of sand fleas -- that's amazing. And the amount of coil control you are describing, so as to minimize all of those various sources of "falsing," is just incredible.
I am finally getting to where I can hunt semi-comfortably with the Manticore, on VERY cons

Elbert -- this is something that can be "fixed," likely per PulltabKing's thoughts that he posted. I am hoping we can get all of this remedied...

NASA-Tom -- got it, and understood. Same concept as on the beach, with respect to lower EMI allowing higher sens, but otherwise keeping other settings the same.
Better unmasking is the biggest advantage then (as would be expected) when hunting inland, with likely little depth loss overall (due to the ability for the higher sens. settings).
Thank you!

Wally,
To follow up on my prior message, I really appreciate the work you did to upgrade to a newer version of the forum (Phorum) software.
At this point, though, the errors persist, folks still struggle to sign up to the forum or receive password resets, and there are so many things that can now be done with this current version of software to make the user experience so much better. In

NASA-Tom, if you have any tidbits to add regarding your experiences hunting this coil inland, I'd be all ears. I am interested in this coil, and you have very clearly "touted its virtues" as a "magnum" coil, with respect to being able to crank up sensitivity and thus achieve impressive depth, and sensitivity to very small gold, AT THE BEACH. I'm curious to hear how

Wally,
Two things...
One, you mentioned "tweaks" and "fine-tuning" that you planned to do with the site; I'm wondering if that is still ongoing. Reason I ask is, there's a long-time user (Gary Daytona) who is still having issues -- i.e. unable to log on to the forum...requesting a password reset link but then not receiving it, etc.) And also, I'm still g

joshquint -- it sounds like you are already set up with the shaft you need, but just wanted to make it known that I do sell a shaft for the Excalibur -- it's a "Florida-style" shaft (i.e. where the battery pod and control pod mount to an 11" shaft "extension" that attaches to butt-end of the shaft "in-line" (i.e. back beyond the arm cuff). Some states are trying to legislate the return of gold and silver coin being legal tender -- including NO capital gain on the sale of any gold or silver coin...
That would be a WELCOME development...

Interesting topic!
I too worked in a grocery store, but not until the late 1980s. By then, most silver had long left circulation. I found a couple in my till, and swapped them out for clad as you did, Okara, but unfortunately I was born a bit too late, in terms of circulation of silver coins.

Wally,
I for one would be willing to help in whatever way I could; I'm not the most tech savvy person here, I'm sure (a very small amount of html ability at best), but more than willing to pitch in in whatever way I'm able, if you need a hand. And I have a couple of friends/family members who are QUITE tech savvy, who could potentially help advise, if a problem of some sort ari

THANK YOU for looking into this, and working to make the upgrade. It is VERY much appreciated. It sounds like you are really busy, and so I for one am particularly thankful for your efforts!

The bottom line is this, I'm afraid...
WE NEED THE FORUM TO BE UPGRADED TO THE NEWEST VERSION OF THE PHORUM SOFTWARE. There are just so many issues with this forum that would be corrected with a new, updated version of the "Phorum" software. As just a few examples...folks wanting to "sign up" for the forum could actually do so, without having to involve Wally; postin

NASA-Tom,
Wow. That is GREAT news. A newer version of the Phorum software would be a definite solution, for essentially all of the issues. I would love to see this forum updated to current Phorum software...
Hopefully, Wally will consider that.
Thanks!

NASA-Tom --
That's good to know; thanks for the additional information. I really try to build my shafts to be "heavy-duty," so as to be able to handle whatever gets thrown at them. I am really glad to hear that it is performing well for you, in tough conditions.
Thank you!

I wonder if anyone has heard anything, regarding possible new technology (new machine, or an updated version of the 8000)?
There's no doubt that the machine has some unique capabilities, but the lack of VDI accuracy in particular, in my dirt, rendered it largely unusable for my type of detecting. However, building upon what is there, with some form of greatly improved VDI/ID capability,
