Monte Berry was definitely a good guy, always happy to offer detecting advice.
He provided a lot of education, especially to beginners, and virtually always without compensation, as far as I know.
He was one of the leading ambassadors of metal detecting.
I detected with him on one of his Northern Nevada excursions to Wells, Nevada.
We hit the ghost towns of Cobre, Tobar, and Metropolis, amo

That's a very impressive list. Once again, the response to user requests is quicker and more complete than I've seen from any other company.
And now you have a lot of updates to make to the User Manual!

Years ago, I recall that some detectorists warned us about EMI from cell phones.
"Leave your cell phone in the car," they would say.
I haven't noticed any obvious EMI while carrying my iPhone 11 and using my
Tarsacci MDT 8000 or Nokta/Makro Multi Kruzer. Of course, if it's silent EMI,
I would have difficulty noticing.
Are modern cell phones less likely to cause EMI,

You're not alone. I haven't been able to get in for several days too, either as a member or guest.
Looks like we'll just have to wait until Steve H. can put it back together.

Hey, Dew. Nice job of comparing the new 12-inch coil with older 11 x 8.5 results.
As I recall, your chart from two years ago was all done at 9 kHz.
Is that also the case with the new results?

I've always tried to avoid the black sand beaches, based on earlier experiences
with previous detectors that didn't like them at all, so I've only worked my MDT 8000
on some beaches with streaks of black here and there. The MDT 8000 has
handled those well.
But if Dimitar sells me a 12-inch coil, I'll do some tests and videos
of the blackest sand I can find near me, and

Okay, who's going to buy a production model 12-inch coil and create some videos while using it on the beach?
If no one else does, I might do it myself. I'll be on Southern and Central California (salt-water) beaches.

I wonder how many people will be willing to pay registration fees in advance
when there will (likely?) (maybe?) still be a pandemic going on, which could cause
any gathering to be cancelled. Their flyer emphasizes "No Refunds".

Is Rusty Henry still in business as a detector dealer? Or has he retired?
He would be about age 73 now.
He was Tesoro's service manager, but also a Tesoro dealer and all around good guy.
I saw someone post in April, 2018, that he had left Tesoro, which told many of us
that rumors of Tesoro's upcoming demise were probably true. But if he's still
selling and/or servicing d

Aaron said:
"Get a .03 gram cut quarter, bury it at 4” in 800 dirt, and post it, just as I have. ..."
I think you mean 0.3 gram, not .03 gram, as I recall from the video.
Still impressive, but quite a difference.

Longtime readers of this thread may recall that I posted a summary of tips from this thread.
That last summary ran up to January 5, 2020.
I have now created Part 2 of that summary, which runs from January 7, 2020, to July 2, 2020.
Here it is (in PDF format):
I hope it's useful for some of you who don't want to read the whole thread. I took the liberty of editing some of K

Lots of good points are mentioned here about what alternate coils people would like.
For me, I bought the MDT 8000 because I now live close to several California beaches. I wanted as much or more depth than an Equinox 800, and I wanted better discrimination than a PI machine gives. (I'm primarily a wet salt sand and ankle-deep water hunter.)
That's what I'm getting with th

It's hard to see all the Tarsacci MDT 8000 settings due to glare, but I stopped several frames and enlarged them. Here they are:
All M, BlkS off, St 29, Track off, Fc 9k,
TrH -1, Dsc -15, Sens 9, Gb 600, Vol 15.
The hardest to be sure about was Sens, but I'm pretty sure it was 9.

You only need to highlight the GB box if you are manually adjusting the GB using the plus and minus keys. If you press the GB button, there's no need to highlight GB.

The zinc penny in my list is a clean, non-corroded one.
I plan to test a few with various levels of corrosion to see the range of TIDs they provide. Yes, so far I've seen quite a range in the wild myself.

I received my MDT 8000 a couple of weeks ago and I've been having a great time learning to use it.
But I've been sick most of the last week, so I've had to stay home and learn it instead of going to the beach.
Inspired by TN Sharpshooter and dewcon4414, I've tested a bunch of objects, mostly rings, to learn the TID numbers they would display. The results are instructive.

I have again updated the "Tarsacci MDT 8000 Usage Notes" file that I extracted from the 55 pages of this message thread.
No significant changes to pages 1-15 or the top of page 16.
Beyond the middle of page 16 is new. It shows Aaron's notes on using the MDT 8000, then Tom's recommended beach settings to Magus, and dewcon's comments on ID numbers and his remarkable r

How does the MDT 8000 fit the taller-than-usual detectorist?
I am six feet, six inches, tall (198.5 cm) and I do fine with my Makro Kruzer, Nokta Impact, and Tesoro Vaquero (although the last two are just barely long enough for me at full extension). Maybe my long arms help me more than some other equally tall people with shorter arms or higher shoulders.
Will the MDT 8000 extend to the sam

I have updated the "Tarsacci MDT 8000 Usage Notes" file that I extracted from the 54 pages of this message thread.
The first 15 pages are basically unchanged, with only minor editing changes.
The 16th page is new. It shows two tables of target ID numbers that I extracted from TNSS videos. One table is "good" targets (coins and rings) and the other is junk targets.

I'm interested in the MDT 8000, so I went through all 54 pages of posts in this thread to learn what I could about it. I decided to extract all the "hard content" and put it all into a smaller file.
By Hard Content, I mean the specs, facts, tips, tricks, and whatever info I thought I might want to study later, when I get my own MDT 8000.
I contacted NASA-Tom to see if he tho

Nokta has posted the English version of the PulseDive User Manual on its web site at:
It looks good! I did some editing of it for them and didn't have very much to correct or suggest.
If you find errors or ambiguities, let me know and I'll pass them along. Nokta might not accept
all such suggestions, but they have been good about anything reasonable in the past.
