Since I have nothing better to do at the moment I figured I’d scare this thread out of the basement. This past September marks 12 years in the metal detecting hobby and as we all do, I have made some observations along the way. I am certain I’ve commented on this subject elsewhere at some point, but because I keep seeing this phenomenon it’s worth mentioning again.

Absolutely agreed, it has to either technologically be a game changer or convey audio in a way which is “better” or have very light weight...or some of those plus low price....a touch screen isn’t going to attract me, and might not work that well in a metal detecting environment after it gets dirty or wet. Everyone knows I’m ALL about the CTX, but an improved one would need some real world, well.

Ahhhhh....see, I’ve never even SEEN a saltwater beach, so that’s where my lack of knowing comes from with that. A single freq with manual GB is no good either?

And now we’ll see if a promise made is a promise kept. I don’t even know WHAT the promise is in the first place, but it sounds like the Minelab patents have expired....? Or is there some other way of doing it? I’m all ears, whatever edge there is. Is their “simultaneous multi frequency” only going to be for a beach machine? It has always seemed that people on the beach dig ALL non-ferrous, and SM

It always feels great to help someone out...a total stranger...family member...friend...neighbor....there’s a sense of self satisfaction that feeds the ego in a good way. And deservedly so. Awesome act Ozzie, you make us proud to do what we do.

Sounds like a solid buy there Dan. I’m going to pick one up later in April when my 800 gets here. It sounds like it’ll help me to cover ground AND get the depth on smaller coins in these larger parks. It looks like they used the body of the first gen WOT for the FBS machines! Pretty cool stuff...

I know, I saw that too. I was actually looking for a case to put some lipos in for my IDXPro and saw the standard AA holder was WAY high. Someone around should have one if you put out the feelers...

Ok, I’ll add something productive...perhaps there are mines with ore that’s worth mining at 1500 an ounce and the gold from those mines is finally getting into the market and saturating it to some degree? Maybe people are realizing as has been discussed elsewhere that when it comes to actual everyday items....when you REALLY get down to it in times of TRUE desperation...gold really isn’t worth an

Seems like another “dead of winter” conversation that will likely change the mind of exactly no one. Expecting a dealer to be “objective” is a stretch, though a few good ones are. If I were that dealer I probably would’ve put it this way.....”For the ease of use, the adjustability of the machine to effectively make it several different machines, the outright performance and the price point, you c

I will say the CABLE on my Ultimate is JUNK. It’s just not anywhere as nice as the cables on my Sunray or my CTX coils. Badger is onto something though, the 13x17” coil on the CTX is my deepest coil, so that particular relationship(12x15, 13x17) in the coil dimensions just might be an optimal configuration.

If you’re hunting cleaner ground and looking for deeper targets you’ll want to consider the actual physical size and configuration of the coil. TRADITIONALLY SPEAKING...cuz I know I’m going to get hammered on this...the WIDTH of the coil is closely related to the depth at which a US quarter might be detected, sitting flat and in optimal conditions. This tends to fall off at the 12-13” width. So a

Pretty much until proven different. When it comes right down to the bitter end, physics is physics. Sometimes it sucks but at least it’s a known.

I had seen an article in a magazine one time where a guy with a V3 found a STUPID amount of quarters in one year using the Bigfoot, and he said that was the key....covering ground. The way they’re wound is pretty interesting with the “figure 8” too. A 10” coin...I’d have to see that one, but as was said, it’s a vacuum in the right situation.

Biggest thing I run into is dirt being moved around/“brought in” by PEOPLE. The seemingly constant need for humanity to “improve” things by dozing, grading, planting, scraping...results in a lot of even new-ish coins being at our limit already. And WIND! Remember the dust bowl? Millions of acres were stripped of most of their topsoil and it wound up somewhere else. In the end, it doesn’t matter m

Price is obviously something that many people didn’t have an issue with, if it did everything they expected it to. It’s still in the lineup, still relevant and still fetches 1200$+. I bought mine for 1800$ brand new so the “2,499$” MSRP is a bit of nonsense. But it has a lot of stuff. It’s expensive. Why charge less if you can pull the unit volume with a higher price? Not everyone can afford a Ca
