Technology has moved on over the years, but just because someone has purchased the latest must have machine that we have been brain washed into getting and in most parts they are not cheap these days.
But the bottom line i still say its the skill set and experience of the operator that gets the maximum performance out of a machine be it new or old technology....of course its nice to own the lat

Thats a easy one for me to answer as well,i have alot of modern detectors, but since i stopped using my old original green T2 which i have had since 2007 my finds rate dropped like a lead balloon when i started using detectors like the Deus and Nox,but since i took the T2 out of retirement again my finds rate has shot back up again, this one detector has found me more gold coinage ie celtic gold st

I own and occasionally use my Fisher TW-5 twin box, only reason i purchased one was i got it off Ebay brand new and never used,a guy top dollar for it and could not fathom out how to the use it,i got it for a 1/4 of what he paid for it.But i would never pay the going price as they are just not used all that much over here in the UK.
I have used it about 3 times on possibly hoard sites and locat

Our coinage can also be large as well,relics/artefacts can be very big so not a really accurate picture of our finds as a whole...the main reason the Deus is a very popular machine is the fact that on trashy roman/Saxon

@Tom in CA,must admit that is the route i would of also gone down as well,i have the Fisher twin box which is basically exactly the same as the Whites TM-808 and if you are only interested in the real deep larger than tennis ball size items and larger then a twin box is the way forward.
I picked mine up some years back with possibly 1 hours use for stupid low price less than what you would pay

@Pimento,i had the same bad experience with my Mars Tiger coil on my T2 as well, although i still have it but not used it for maybe 2 years.
I will agree that the SEF 15x12 Coil which you repaired does work exceptionally well on not only small coin size finds but also much bigger finds, possibly one of my all time favourite combinations.
The jury is still out on my Nox and have all 3 coils but

Sounds like a very interest project,i have a basic idea on what you are doing and it certainly is very interesting in what you are trying to achieve.
As i have my Nexus with the dual 9'' coils and a Fisher TW-5 twin box i guess i could use it in a similar fashion with either of these machines.
May give it a go with both of these machines this coming weekend on one of my local perm

The only way to work such a site is by using a small coil,of course you wont get the depth of say a normal stock coil, but with so much iron around a stock or larger coil will suffer from target masking.
On some of my real trashy roman/saxon sites the only thing that works for me is using a small coil and go over the site slow and low,you just cannot do anything else.
My preferred machines for

I must admit i totally agree with you,was a great forum, but i fear its going like many other great forums and they are closing because of FaceBook.
On FB can get about every form of information about specific detectors and equipment or detecting in general and the forum owner does not have all the expense of server or usage charges and that i feel is the main reason why alot of what was at one

The new C-Scope may look like the Simplex and EQX but the other 2 work well, the C-Scope new machine has been recalled due to major software issues when the problem/s will be resolved could be any

@ghound,although you have only had the Coiltek coil a few days are you still thinking along the lines that the ML 15'' coil is still better for coins over the Coiltek coil for UK pasture and deep ploughed ?? i do have the 15'' ML coil and i do find it behaves in a similar way as the stock coil but of course it does cover more ground and also hits coin size items slightly hard

For deep pasture detecting which was 'specifically' mention the my selection would be.
Nox with the 15'' coil gives good depth and possibly the best all round machine for the last 2-3 years or so.
TdI Pro 'PI' with my Coiltek 14x9 Mono coil also have many other larger coils for extreme depth if needed.
T2 with the SEF 15x12 or NEL BIG coil 17x15.

Still have my short position on from 1820 if recall correctly, tight trailing stop in place so this will lock in a semi decent profit for me,still personally reckon it has alot more to go down yet, infact i would say a fair way yet,the better it will be for my short position.

1820,its a long term position,so will probably only look at it once a week or so,the slightly wider stoploss will allow me some fluctuation without taking me out of the position,it will allow me too sleep at night without screen watching

Just my personal opinion is that Gold has peaked and started to plateau out and after the recent Presidential crisis becoming old news, the price of gold has started to retreat and currently this morning placed a 'long term short' position with a slightly wider stoploss in place to reduce a possibly short term spike in the price that would/could have take me out of the trade.

For me on my UK sites the T2 has been the most productive detector,TDI Pro and my DFX with the 12'' Hotshot coil. The T2 and DFX have bagged me the most gold coinage by a mile.

RR,a terrific video and also the other parts as well,a truly dedicated UK detectorist that had been detecting for over 50 years, met with John a few times and he will surely be missed by the UK detecting fraternity as he was a true pioneer in the hobby from the 60s.

As i mainly only ever go by audio not only on the T2 but other detectors as well, when using the SEF15x12 on the T2 mainly use 2 tones and if it gives me a decent signal which is 40 or above then

My vote would also go for the SEF 15x12 coil, for its size it not only covers alot of ground but also much deeper than the stock coil. The SEF coil also has very good pinpointing and for its size is considered light in my mind.
I can also swing it all day long and very good on small finds as well, have found cut halves with mine which is pretty rare for such a largish coil, its 100 times better th

I have about 10 coils for my green T2 and for really trashy sites the 5'' coil is deadly, for normal everyday use and also found me the most gold and silver coinage is the Nel Sharpshooter and for pasture when both some extra depth and ground coverage is neaded then the SEF 15x12 coil is the one i mainly use.
But possibly my all time favourite coil is that NEL Sharpshooter, great for t

Good suggestion but with what coil ?? mine has been converted so that i can use all 5 pin coils,i am thinking that the 4'' or the 7'' Concentric coils could make a great combination.
Albeit not alot of depth but they certainly could be deadly on small gold.

I concur with 'ghound' over the years have found many many hammered silver coins going back to roman ie silver dinari nearly 2 millennia within the top 8-10 not in one specific area but across the whole UK.
The sink rate is not as drastic as what i think folks make it out to be.

Not seen anything change in the design and layout of the site, still works for me in the same way.
But what i have seen change is the massive drop in folks who post in recent times, not sure the reason behind it or why folks are not posting as much. One could say maybe the current Pandemic situation could be the sole reason, but other detecting forums are still very active even through the current

On some of my UK permissions that have been habited for say a 1000 years plus and have a substantial amount of iron and other non desirables,i would use the small 6''coil to get in between the iron.
Of course what works for me on my iron invested sites may not work for other folks and the locations that they detect on.

I had one for a few months, the main advantage is ground coverage, does give some slight extra depth but not as much as most folks think.I bought mine brand new for a crazy low price and swapped it for a brand new Deus HF elliptical coil which suited my needs much better.
I am happy just using the stock coil, highly doubtful that i would buy another 15'' Nox coil just does not swing wel

The F-19 never took off in the UK,tried one once but glad i did not buy one,the F75 and T2 the latter of which i use is still my all time favourite machine.
The few folks who did buy the F19 sold them on very quickly and lost a fair amount of money into the bargain.Must admit i cannot recall the last time i have seen one being used, they seemed ok but nothing outstanding if i am honest.

All my other coils and i have dozens of them upto 20'' but these are not used much and more specific use coil.

When the ATX initially came out i was also very interested in purchasing one,2 things that stopped me though.
The cable issue which was never rectified but the biggest problem for me was the boat anchor weight of them,of course i am aware that they did provide a 'free' harness but it was a feeble effort.
On paper it looks like a tough piece of equipment and waterproof, but as i pot

The Garrett Apex does not seem to be grabbing much attention here in the UK,infact very little interest at all.
Its coming across to me and most of the other detectorists that is just a mediocre machine and nothing else. What is grabbing more attention is the Vanquish range over the Apex,i think they will pick up some buyers from the dedicated Garrett fan club but that i feel is just because of t
