There is foxmd.ru that claims to cut out the circuit card and externalize it for the Equinox. I haven’t come across anyone here in the states that has purchased it though.

Making an A/D board for such a purpose is not beyond some detectorists capability. Several on Geotech up to the task as long as no lockout present.
Does the Legend have a complex coil circuit though….

Back to an early question on 3rd party coils. Is there protection against home made or 3rd party coils? I realize you can partner with a coil firm but they may not think doing a Bigfoot type coil is mainstream (or as easy) - thus no such coil on a discriminating salt water capable detector today.

Bigfoot style modeled after the Razorback Beach Hog. 22”x5” x 3/4” or thinner. Symmetrical airfoil cross section coil. Since I have your attention, are your coils electrically locked to the detector or would we be able to make or adapt our own to it? Btw, can be split8 or DD - you may need absolute value algorithm to process the signal.
There is no multi-freq detector that has a Bigfoot type c

I have one with a Bigfoot and I think two other coils and would trade +$$ if necessary for Equinox.
Prefer an 800 if I can get it. The xlt is a nice machine but I hunt beaches and don’t use it.

If you get an Excal instead with Plugger carbon fiber straight shaft, disc switch, knob guard, CTX headphone jack, and coil receptacle wouldn’t you still be concerned about water intrusion?
If not, I have two built from ground up and I’d trade one for a EQ800. Had one but sold it but now I need something lighter than a CTX and more transportable than one of the Excals.

Golden retriever - where’s your comparison YouTube video?. That would be a real interesting one!
This thread leaves me wondering how much of “the secret sauce” is in the coil?

I have never seen one for sale but there must be dead CTX’s out there. I’d like to get one and first try to get it working, and next, try to mod it with whatever I can do to make it lighter. I have a working CTX and am happy with it but wish it were lighter. I have spare coils. I have several machines - Tejon, XLT with Bigfoot, GMT, goldbug2, ga52c locator, excals, I may be willing to trade, depe
