Looking for anyone who has hunted Civil War locations in the 70’s, 80’ & 90’s in Dekalb county, Georgia that might wish to share locations and help me out. I am looking for Civil War camp sites, river or stream crossing or skirmishes that happened in Dekalb county in Metro Atlanta, Georgia.
Or if you know someone who has hunted those areas in the past that would be helpful also if you cou

Calabash, hurry up and download it. I am waiting on your evaluation before I upload it. Well I really should not worry too much, you can revert back to a previous version. Some eagle eyed forum user pointed out you just go to the upgrade again with your detector connected to your computer and in the bottom right corner is a tiny information icon that will allow you to revert back to the previous

It is interesting to see all of the many, many posts about 1 year ago about the Equinox when first released. I wonder how many of the skeptics back then now own an Equinox? In about a year it has not and will not put Garrett and others out of the business of making metal detectors. But I suspect it has taken some sales away from other manufacturers. At the same time I think many newbies who purch

I came from three years of hunting with the AT Pro and many hours on other mid-ranged price detectors. I now have about 30 hours on the Equinox 800 and on any given day after a hunt I am about ready to sell the 800 and buy another AT Pro. But I find myself out there 2-3 days later hunting with the 800.
I highly recommend Clive James Clynick's book "The Minelab Equinox series - From B

I totally agree with not really wanting micro jewelry. I am happier with fat, heavy gold rings and heavy chains at the wet beach. Now when prospecting for gold in a creek or tailings I want the big and small stuff because often all you can find is the fine gold and it adds up over time. But a thin gold chain that some get excited about being found with the nox does not excite me. When I go to th

I had the AT Pro for 3 years and loved it. Looked at the AT Max and said, not a significant upgrade. Then I saw the Nox 800 and boom sold the AT Pro and bought the 800. I am sure the 600 and 800 killed a lot of AT Max sales. Kind of a bummer for Garrett, but they are big boys and they will react with a great new detector, not a warmed over AT Pro.

Amen to the competition thing. Imagine living in a socialist/communist country where your only detector the Yugo 55000 that was designed 30 years ago and only worked for 15

In the back of my mind I think my AT Pro. I sold my AT Pro to buy an Equinox 800 and 6 inch coil. I am still wondering if I had spent as much time learning the AT Pro (and more about metal detecting) like I have with my 800 I would have maybe not sold my AT Pro. Some times good quality simple machines like the AT Pro are better for some people like me than the more complex 800. But for now, I am

thanks for your youtube video on the Nox 6 inch coil. Now I am seeing more clearly the value of having a well established target garden. One question how do you remember what is buried where? Good memory? Grid system?

Here is my air test on the Equinox 800 comparing the 11 inch stock coil to the 6” coil.
Did a factory reset and set sensitivity to 21, recovery speed to 6. Iron bias of 6.
Setup and methods: I set the coils on an all plastic child’s picnic table to eliminate any metal. Swept the table to determine there were no metal objects in the table.
Use a yard stick butted up against the base of the co

I found almost the same results on testing 3 ringers. I have several calibers of three ringers to test with. Someone on this or other forum suggested I take what ever target I was looking for actually out to the site that I will be hunting and bury them 8 to 10 inches or so deep. And then see which mode on the 800 gave the best signal on the buried targets. Then use those settings on the hunt. M

no, this is my first Minelab machine. Hunted the same area with an AT Pro and stock coil, and 5x8" coil. Not trying to put down the AT Pro at all. I loved hunting with the AT Pro with the 5x8" coil for 3 years. Solid machine and lots of good hunting memories. Only sold the AT Pro and coils for budget reasons. to pay for the 800 & 6" coil. Had the Nel Thunder coil for about six

Normally I don't hunt this trashy park on the weekend because it is slammed with people and absolutely no parking available. However I just could not wait till Monday to test the 6" coil from Minelab.
So I circled the parking lot for about 5 min and got a parking place and started hunting. I have hunted the around the picnic tables near the river today. I have hunted those areas qui

Hunting a trashy park. will discriminate 22 and below.
I have read using discrimination will reduce the effective depth on the 800.
Is that true?
If so then i could just set two tone breaks with 1st tone break last position being 22 and set the volume and pitch lower for break one and both volume and pitch higher for the 23 and above. This should accomplish the same desired effect witho

Passionate people don't offend me. But when they claim x or y detector is best for everyone, well that is just not accurate. Like a previous reply, it depends on where you hunt. I think the Equinox is getting so much praise because it is as close to an all in one detector for under $1,000 that has ever been brought to the market.

Ordered mine today and it shipped priority mail. Most small authorized Minelab dealers are getting 3 coils this week. Key is find smaller Minelab dealers and ask, they have smaller waiting lists.

I look forward to your info since I have a 6" on order also. On my AT Pro, I loved the 5x8" garrett coil, it really produced for me. I almost preferred it to the stock coil except when working fields and dry sand ares of the beach. It was great for parks, creeks, dense woods and old home sites eg anywhere you needed to concentrate your efforts to a smaller area.

I will be ordering the 6" coil for my 800. On my AT Pro they recommended resetting the unit when changing from the AT Pro stock coil to the NEL Thunder.
Is there such a requirement to reset when changing from the 800 stock coil and 6" coil?
I hope not, since i have some custom settings in field2.
thanks for any help.

even days after banks people didn't trust banks after strings of bank failures. Popular hiding place was a post hole "bank". It was a cache buried near a fence post that could be seen from the main room in a house or cabin through a window so they could notice if anyone was messing around in that area.
so if you are hunting old home sites and can determine the cabin layout then lo

when you are hunting in a Georgia creek and the temp is above 90, the creek is slimy, smelly and you haven't found a thing in two hours and you are thinking " I'll just go around one more curve", at each curve.

only problem i found was when wading in a little over waist deep water and the control head goes under water the paring with the wireless headphones disconnects. when i bring the control head out of the water, the paring returns. the wireless head phones don't sound clear to my hearing. the high tones sound much like mid tones and mid tones sound lower that what I would like. So I use the WM
