Thanks, Keith -- that is really good info.

I'm... agog at that video. I was expecting superficial improvements with the Apex. But it seems that Garrett is taking the competition seriously. Game on!

They may not be super low. I tested a few with my Vanquish; numbers should be very close on the Nox:
1849-0 $1.00: 11-12
1911 $2.50:

A video doesn't guarantee truth, any more than a text description of a machine's performance does. You have to trust the narrator when he says "this target is buried N inches deep in my test garden". You also have to trust that he didn't edit out any tests that didn't go the way he expected/wanted. No matter how a detector's performance is shown or described, i

Looking forward to your report, Tabman. I'm also looking forward to trying out my own X, once the snow melts and the ground thaws. Apparently, someone up here didn't get the memo that Spring is about to begin. LOL

I hadn't noticed the "Views" forum until I started using the "New Posts" link on the new site. That forum would certainly make me queasy if I were a sponsor. :-)
Findmall didn't really delete the Tesoro and White's forums... they're still there under different names.
It's a drag that old bookmarks won't work; I had quite a few topics bookmar

According to something I saw on the Vista X Facebook group a month or so ago, two new coils are in the works for the X, one smaller and one larger than the stock coil. I'm guessing the smaller one will be in the 7"-8" range, since they already have the 6".
While I really like the 7"-8" coil size, I can't blame DeepTech for leading off with an 11" stock

I think all the passwords have to be reset by the account owners. It's done via the "Forgot your password?" link under the Password text box on the login dialog. Worth a try i

That same old software (Phorum) is also used to run this site. It still works, I guess, but is certainly showing its age.
I really hope findmall has a way to import the old messages into the new system. Phorum was quite popular in its day, so maybe the new software has an import utility for the data. Failing that, I at least hope they keep the old site up as a read-only archive. It has tons o

From reading the thread on TNet, my impression is that the guy isn't a scammer but probably is very over-optimistic in what he can deliver. Sure, he might have some "out of the box" insight that lets him produce a powerful, feature-rich machine in a short time-frame, but more likely it'll be an "out of the wallet" experience for those who pony up to buy one.
Still

Around here the Garretts are still the most popular by a wide margin, though more people are starting to pick up the Nox. Still quite a few Tesoros, a Deus or two, an occasional Whites or Fisher.

That 8" concentric is my all-round favorite Tesoro coil.
I wish other manufacturers made more concentric coils for their machines. Nokta/Makro is pretty good for that, but Minelab... they had at least one for the X-Terra series, but none for the CTX or Equinox that I know of. Concentrics just do better in some situations than DD coils do.

I've had the same experience :-) I used Garretts and Minelabs for about twenty years, and found silver rings but no gold jewelry of any kind. Since switching to Tesoros about two years ago, I've found five gold items, including a gold/platinum d

Perfect timing indeed! There happens to be a Vista Gold Gain with extra coils on feeBay with an attractive starting bid. I'm tempted to try for it but want to see what this new model brings to the table before doing anything rash.

Definitely keeping an eye on this! I didn't see anything in the thread that suggested it was aimed at North American detectorists, though?

Mike, try asking on the DeepTech forum on findmall . At least one DeepTech employee is on there and should be able to get you the manual.

She also mentioned that it has a beach mode for salt water hunting... if that works even semi-well, this is truly going to be a killer machine.

I have the 3x18" Epsilon coil for my Tesoros. As one would expect, it doesn't go that deep, but is great for grabbing stuff up to 5 or 6 inches. I use mine primarily on the beach, but it should be fine on sports fields as long as there's not too much trash -- trying to separate targets under 18" of coil can be a challenge.
Pin-pointing is easy. Like any DD coil, you pinpo
