Not a Vanquish owner but looking at them as a replacement for an ageing F5. Just curious as to why the Vanquish lineup comes with such large coils. Great for the beach but not so great in trashy locale

Problem/issue not isolated to that detector by any means. As Tom mentioned, most times appears to be iron masking, frustrating. At old plantation sites I would sometimes put the plug farther from the hole so the coil edge would not overlap onto the plug. What size coil are you using? .

I hunt similar conditions on Texas beaches. Best areas(read consistent) for me are access points(near stairs or paths) onto the sand, also where people congregate or sit(chair line). Hunting the wet sand or water is iffy due to the sink rate. We have no hard shell or bed rock for several feet, so unless you hunt during or very soon after a busy day or holiday weekend, all that nice heavy gold is

I have had success using this method; apply hot water to the outer ring. The heat will cause it to expand, then give it a twist. Will work on salt encrusted twist locks also but saturate the whole assy this time. It will loosen and help to melt the salt crystals.

Finally getting back to it after 2 years of shoulder rehab. and I have been camping and visiting my daughter in the Jonesborough area each summer for a couple years now, would like to do some detecting there. Can anyone please advise about any restrictions to detecting on public land, state or county. Thanks

My CZ3D is my choice these days, but the Tesoro Vaquero I sold a few years back was a deep cherry picker with the disc cranked up, maxed out about 10+ inches with stock coil.

Never tried the chest mount, but after moving my CZ to my hip a few years back it has remained there. I used a quick release diving belt I had laying around and picked up a ammo pouch which now has a hole in the bottom for the coil wire. The flap can be velcroed back or closed to keep sand out when at the beach.

"All finds in Denmark which date to before the Reformation (about 1530) are National Treasure and the finder is obliged to report the find and turn it in to the local museum. If it is precious metal, a finders fee is paid based on the value of the metal (not the market value of the item)."
To bad our state or/or federal government can't seem to come up with something similar.

As I developed into a tone hunter I let my Tesoros go. The golden was my first tone machine, it lacked depth and the 2 middle tones didn't have enough freq separation for my ears, made the switch to a F5. The Vaquero was the deepest machine I had ever used till I picked up a CZ, not to take anything from the Vaquero though, it would hit a dime at 9-10" no sweat. Just couldn't hang

I can tell you my Vaquero had excellent depth(10+ inches) on coin size targets in my mild soil and separation was also very good. Alas, I became a tone hunter and migrated over to the Fisher machines.

Get an F5 and read all of Mike Hillis posts on the subject. Actually the most important thing(my opinion) besides location, is to not make finding jewelry an incidental thing. Set your machine up specifically for that type of target. You've got to be willing to dig aluminum slaw and tabs.

Yep, I carry all the time now that I have a CHL. Too many nuts and druggies out there. I have left a few parks because the bad elements filtered in as the day wore on and evening approached, which tells me the bad is never far away. I will do everything possible to avoid confrontation, but if it goes bad, I will defend myself or my family.

I used one for a few years(original tone package), it was a fun coinshooter, I dug more nickels with that machine than any other machine. I was disappointed with the depth (6-7") and thought the freq. of the 2 middle tones needed more separation. I replaced it with a F5 for my park machine which does the job quite well. Many thanks to Mike Hillis for all his posts on the F5

I'm old school and like my knobs over menu driven adjustments( I like my Cz and F5), but I read Keith's comments with interest.
" I know I want specialty machines for site work...( Iron Unmasking) and Like Carl said that's 1% of the population looking for Niche units" Relating to the comment of updating a machine through downloads, ie. Dues. How about being able to buil

As mentioned National Seashore is off limits. You can hunt at Isla Blanca Co. Park at the jetties or down the beach in front of the condos can give up some decent stuff. Glad you have a big coil, cause there is a lot of beach.

Hunt in 0 disc so you can hear the iron hits. As mentioned, rotate around the target as your sweeping the coil. If I get more than 1 or 2 iron grunts, I pass. There is always the exception depending on factors like depth, if I'm finding good targets collocated at the same depth as nails/iron, etc. At any new site I like to get a feel for what going on by digging it all at first.
