i do! had a white's 4db @ 100khz.
saw right through nails no problem.
crap for depth only around 4" or 5" tops,
but back then ('77) "tons" of good stuff at those depth ranges, so didn't really matter,
as guys was "bustin'' it with 10 or 20 silver hits ''every" day! just sayin'

hi harold!
how ya hittin' 'em in those chicago parks?
maybe the 540 will "fetch" some of those deep ones
10,000 guys have missed over the years!

you would be well served by notching out the 2 lowest segments and have at it!
if ya get a 12 or 13 walk around the target and if ya get stronger midtone and more frequent 12's
and only occasionally an 11 ,then you should dig it good chance it's a nickel.

"smart play" tex!..i believe that too!
minelab knows exactly what they are doing
from a marketing aspect.give 'em more for the "scratch!"
winning philosophy!

it's really a terrific detector...the 8,10,or the 12 are all
outrageously good at separation, and the detector's ability to
i.d.at depth is truly amazing for the price point!.

the vanquish 540 "will" sniff out "bigger" iron at depth no matter how the
iron bias is set, but there again "most" detectors struggle with bigger iron at depth anyway.
in my view, this is NOT a game changer as the detector,"overall" is really good at sniffin'
coins at depth, and is worth every dime they get for it.as mentioned in another post, the

no! i believe they will dump it!..garrett prides itself on "made in america"
equipment, and playing with the chinese will be repugnant to them.
they do need to offer a (s.m.f.) that will "compete" with minelab "head to head"

i agree! not really sold on any of garrett's offerings. they HAVE accumulated cash,
but appeared to be 'stuck" with single frequency equipment for a long time.NOT sure if
they possessed the engineering talent to develop (s.m.f.),or maybe they have been constantly 'engaged"
all this time to bring forward (s.m.f.).there was a long period when minelab was gaining prominen

not sure either cal! just tossed that out there, and NOT being (marvin the mind reader)

BOTH work for first texas, and probably could care less, but again, who can really say if they made an inquirery

i wonder if kenny white reached out to first texas.
dave johnson designed the mxt,and possibly could have convinced
authority figures to bid on whites ,if there was interest.. they are a diversified
corporate entity with considerable financial wallop..i'm just sayin'

v 12 is a "crackerjack" hunter.separates the nuts, and goes deep! great for "blitzing"
old parks and such! 540 is simply a terrific coin sniper, but the "real hammer" is the little
340.same technology as the 440,and the 540,just a few less controls, and wicked short money!
future "sleeper'!

minelab is always in acquisition mode!
garrett has an opportunity to up date some of the fine designs,
of the whites line.look for retention of some models with
'improved" circuitry.

excellent point! i been hunting over 35 years, and unless you have time to do tons of new research ( i don't)
so therefore public places get the nod, and just about everywhere is cooked!..hunted by everyone and his brother
for years and years.still, even after these facts are understood, the very latest "multi-iq" IS making a difference.the offerings from

to be perfectly honesty don't trust rechargeables any way.
they are rated at 1.2 volts, and when they go, they go out right away.
1.5 volt alkaline will last longer, and go out more gradually thus allowing
you a little wiggle room.

all that you mention is true cal! what i am specifically referring to is the possibility
of mistakenly "copying" their multi-iq patent design, which i neglected to mention in my post.
coming up with a ''scratch" design is far more preferable from a n innovation perspective.yes, i definitely agree with that.
