One of my other big hobbies is native American artifacts. I have several archeology books from the University of Tennessee excavations of the Tennessee and Little Tennessee River sites before TVA flooded them. What was very interesting to me was the more recent Little Tennessee River sites...they were excavated much closer to present day, in the 1970s. The history of the Little Tennessee River

Ozzie -- I did get the 11x13. I've actually had all the currently available coils for the D2. I didn't see any noticeable difference with the 11x13 over the 11...I was expecting at least a minor improvement in depth. When it came down to it, the 9 inch coil was just as deep IMO...especially when you cranked up the audio response to around 6 to do away with the modulated audio.

Ozzie - That's usually our cue to try a different tool for the job. When me and my buddy roll up to a new site, we'll have no less than 4 detectors. One guy that used to hunt with us would have 5 or 6 machines just for himself. We've had several instances where the landowner let us hunt, then come tell us something like "Fellas, I got to thinking, what if my grandkids migh

I can chime in on the Fe meter. I think it's an invaluable tool and Fisher/Teknetics set what should be the bar for all others. I feel naked having machines without it. Yes...having that info can tell you a lot. Some sites, a pulse machine is going to be best...and the target IDs way off. Without that info you might blaze through a site and just falsely believe that "nothing is there

Word of caution on the High Conductors mode. I did a whole write up on this on Steve's forum. Last weekend my buddy and I hunted my place with the Civil War bullets in hot ground. He marked signals with his GPX and then we took the other machines, using the marked bullets to test over. We had the Manticore, Deus 2, and he had brought along his T2 as well. Between those 3 machines, the T

Cabelas is getting more in than any other dealers. You just have to watch their site and search for Manticore every morning. You'll catch one sooner rather than later. That's where mine came from.

I use the Ankers for different things and love them. I use them as a continuous supply to the GoPro and a bunch of other things. My 8 hour detecting days are done though unless you count driving time haha

It's not your fault. The last time it updated was Feb 3rd. All it says is "in transit moving through network". The last location it gave was in Missouri. It'll get here when it gets here.

I keep mine in Simple. I do tackle sites differently now than what I used to. It absolutely used to drive me crazy digging trash and junk. Now days...I don't mind digging junk at all. I actually get a little excited when I get into a spot with a lot of signals and junk because I figure most detectists have avoided it. I will absolutely hunker down and pick those spots clean. If it's

User toggle option would be great! The white is a little too much for me, even on low but I have very light sensitive eyes. I have started driving at night and in low light with sunglasses on to keep those LED headlights from blinding me.

Tom -- Tell Minelab the biggest mistake I think they made so far on the Manticore was not implementing that nice red backlight like what is on the Nox 900 for low light and night hunting. That's my one complaint.

The way he was excited over those pliers, you would have thought he had found a gold bar. It truly was a blessing to have met him. If I make it to 72, I hope I have the health and enthusiasm like that.

I went out detecting this weekend and happened upon something I seldom see any more. I thought I would share this little story. I know this is more of a technical structured forum so it may be out of place here.
Anyways I was hunting the site I have been finding the rings and I had noticed another guy metal detecting the area now referred to as "the new beach". He was approx 1/4 mi

Two more rings today. 14k plain wedding band and a non stamped ring...I'm thinking stainless but not sure. Manticore is a ring finder for sure. But I've about tapped out my spots for the year. Time to swap gears and see how this thing does relic hunting.

Dew - I have actually just about tore my house apart looking for my set of Tony's headphones for the Nox. I know I have a set but for the life of me, I haven't been able to find them.

My hearing is horrid for a 40 yr old. But I do think the Enhanced audio profile sounds scratchy/buzzy like and seems to have a lot less volume to it. It may just be my hearing though. I much prefer Normal and Depth.

Here is the link to hunt #2. It's just easier for me to link to Steve's forum because the pictures are already over there. This one had an unexpected surprise in which I would later find out. Pretty cool story (to me). That's 2 Manticore hunts and 4 rings, three of which are silver.

I want to get out more with it and hunt but I have had a really bad run of luck with the weather that goes back to nearly October. I work a 12 hour rotating schedule and EVERY stretch of off days I have gotten, it rains. This was my weekend to work and it was beautiful every day of it. Mon and Tues are my off days this week and guess what...rain both days, starting this afternoon. It's d

If a person is familiar with the Equinox, they should pick right up with the Manticore. I'll be interested to see how some of the other modes do at other sites when time allows me to hunt longer. In my test area at home, All Terrain General seemed to provide the cleanest of signals and hit on every target with ease so that's what I went to at the little Civil War camp. I didn't t

I work 12 hr midnight shifts but couldn't wait to try that Manti out after work. I took it to a little Civil War camp that in modern times, is a hill the people sled down on the rare occasions we get snow in East Tennessee. It's one of those places that's near home and has been hunted so much that you probably really won't miss anything learning a new machine...in fact my la

I enjoy the back and forth myself! I learn a lot. Ever notice that the really smart people don't have to continually remind everybody how smart they are? Just thought I'd throw that out there.

I snagged one of the Manticores from Bass Pro Shops and it came yesterday. All I've been able to do though is charge the batteries and watch it thunderstorm outside. Looking forward to getting out with it...it will have to be very impressive though to take the spot of my D2. I also have the Nox 900 but I keep reaching for the D2 when it's time to go actually hunt.

I've been hunting with the 900 in several different spots and thought I'd chime in.
The 900 is extremely subjective to iron falsing *IF* you are running it too hot. I believe that's what is also happening with the Manticore and people digging iron that sounds good. You'll get the same exact thing on the Nox if you run it say, sens 22+. Especially if you are working thi

That's where all my extra money went. Two Humminbird Solix units, Mega 360, and an Ultrex trolling motor plus new map card. I do wish now I would have gone with the Garmin or Lowrance trolling motor though. My Ultrex is just a

I have the D2 and Nox 900. I've been testing them quite a bit lately. For the Nox I have the 11", 6", 5x10, and 15" coils. For the D2 I just have the 11". With each unit equipped with the 11 inch coils, they are pretty well equal IMO. I've actually been trying to find the clear winner between the two and there isn't a cut and dry winner between them on land

Here are the arrangements for Charlie Harris: 12/22 visitation 11-12:30, service 12:30. Companion Funeral Home, 2415 Georgetown Rd, nw, Cleveland, TN.
I plan on going. I never got to hunt with Charlie but visited with him many times and was always great to see him and talk relics. His book Civil War Relics of the Western Campaigns was the book that got my interest started in metal detecting
