Hi Tom,
You and I both discovered independently that Multi-IQ produced better and more consistent reports on small gold than any single frequency, leading to the addition of Multi to the Gold Modes. I have noted no real difference between Gold Mode 1 and Gold Mode 2 myself once they are set identically though I'm not swearing there are not any. Just nothing that I have observed in actual

I'm not much for air testing or burying test targets. The only thing that works for me is in ground cross checking on found, un-excavated targets. The photos above were taken on field cross checking sessions in the Nevada desert. Find a target with one machine, check with other three. Excavate and see what it was. Switch detectors, find another target, cross check with other three. Excav

Micro jewelry and micro nuggets are similar, with variations in natural gold running both smaller and less pure that eventually make many nuggets undetectable. Frequency is only one of many components, with circuit gain being a larger factor in many instances. Case in point the new digital 19 kHz Gold Bug does much better on small gold than the original analog 19 kHz Gold Bug. Gain can be pushed

Don’t worry about it guys. Kind thoughts, though seriously I am just a regular Joe who likes to beep, nothing special. You all have a great day!

I have to say this is one of the more ridiculous discussions I have ever seen As far as turf proficiency I have countless hours cross checking various brands and models in turf conditions and have detected turf for going on 50 years. I simply am not one to toot my own horn and frankly don’t care if people think I am any good at detecting or not. I am certain there are very many great detectorist

If this baby can't ground balance then it better get tested in Hawaii. I did ok with the Surf PI in Hawaii but the problem always was false signals bouncing over the bottom or going over basalt cobbles due to the inability to ground balance. A waterproof TDI was my desire from day one, but never happened. The Infinium worked but had issues of its own with false signals in saltwater. The ATX

What mystery is being revealed? Isn’t this what Minelab has been saying all along?
Minelab, October 19, 2017
“How does Multi-IQ compare to BBS/FBS?
Multi-IQ uses a different group of fundamental frequencies than BBS/FBS to generate a wide-band multi-frequency transmission signal that is more sensitive to high frequency targets and slightly less sensitive to low frequency targets. Multi-IQ

Reducing recovery speed in high mineral ground or high trash ground is exactly the wrong thing to do with Equinox and even in so-called lower mineral ground. And no, the default modes are not low power but instead the best place to be for most situations. The defaults are excellent with maybe just a bump to sensitivity. People messing with the settings right out of box and dramatically lowering r

No detector suits all people and Equinox will not either. I try far more that I discard than keep. I give you credit JR for at least trying something before commenting on it. Best wishes to you on a successful summer!

Minelab E-trac, CTX 3030, Excalibur Versus Equinox
Short answer - those trying to turn Equinox into a light weight BBS/FBS detector are going to fail. The machines are not meant to duplicate each other. Equinox is designed to go after the AT Max and Deus market, not replace Minelabs top machines in applications where they excel.

The same hand grenade that gets lobbed at every tester at some point. As if Tom is some destitute slob groveling for access or a free detector. I could of give a rip if I ever test another metal

Bingo, give the man a prize! Minelab has been watching your posts for years folks - why do you think Equinox exists? Now is the time for testers to shut up so the first purchaser reports can provide even more feedback about what people like or disli

Tip on the Carrot - tip to the ground before turning on. The unit detunes to the ground, and when I do this I never have falsing issues on my ground.
My Carrot is one of the first and still going strong, but I have had plenty of Garrett product failures. I like their designs but the quality/reliability is low. I have the one of the older ProPointers that failed almost immediately. Well, it kin

You missed my point Beyonder. I could care less about evaluations of my character coming from people who don’t know me and never will. People act in ways I don’t like I simply leave the room, and I have. I am quite satisfied with my solution to trolls. The only reason I posted was to speculate on why others are staying silent. And with that I will go back to doing the same.
Best wishes and hap

I have always recommended waiting 6 months to a year before buying any truly new model of detector unless you are the sort of person who does not mind the inherent risks of being an early adopter. Consensus reporting by end users is valuable stuff for those that require an extra level of security regarding a purchase.
But why not mine testers for extra information until then? They are by and l

Most of the silence these days can be attributed, in my opinion, to the now continuous commentary coming from some quarters that constantly denigrate or cast aspersions on the character of product testers. I used to post freely on all the forums back when people appreciated information wherever they could get it. Back in the age of internet innocence.
Then people started in with the shill stuf

I am not impressed that Deteknix got caught with their hand in the First Texas cookie jar and then made a quick name change to Quest in an attempt to leave that embarrassing incident behind.

True, but does the CZ not achieve this by being susceptible to “silent EMI masking”? I am pretty sure you Tom are the one who enlightened us to this. It just makes sense that a detector that genuinely processes multiple freq
