It is always disappointing to see some in the detecting community impugn the honesty and integrity of good people.
People who agree to test metal detectors for companies often seem to be the targets of insults. It is insinuated they would sell their integrity for the price of a metal detector. At a minimum you have people like Tom, who gives what in my opinion is the most detailed and comprehe

"point being I was sold a debunked detector from you which you blamed on must of happened in shipping. I will check our communication chain from back in the day and make sure it was you."
Yeah, you might want to do that since I never traded anyone for an Etrac in my life. You might want to get your facts straight before you slander people.

Please leave me out of your discussions John. I can speak for myself. I got an MX Sport, I reported a problem. I had reason to believe the problems would not get fixed quickly, so I sold mine and moved on. That's it. If you want to keep making the same posts over and over for months that's for you to decide, but I am not your partner in this, so please leave me out of it.

That is the root of many of the problems Tom. This idea that just because casual users do not know what constitutes a properly operating detector means those detectors are ok. The fact is every metal detector manufactured before the

That's more the post I was hoping to make when I got mine. I am glad to hear White's is getting it sorted out. I think if this is the way the game gets played however there should be a way to check the firmware version. There are way too many versions drifting around now with no way to know which is which, and I do not think White's is done tweaking it yet. Last I heard they were s

Advantages of Gold Bug 2 over Gold Racer? For sensitivity to tiny stuff they are so close to be of no consequence to most people but if an edge exists it would be with the Gold Bug 2 and 6" coil. I ditched my Gold Bug 2 as soon as I got the Gold Racer though so never did a head to head - just my gut feeling. For micro jewelry 6" coils are not very efficient as regards ground coverage an

Thank you and best wishes to you in your pursuit of micro jewelry. The Gold Racer may be the best unit currently made for the purpose but only if you can have confidence it its reliability and have time to learn it. Hard to do if it spends more time in the shop than in your hands. Good news is mine may be the oldest one in the country being used and was working hard just yesterday. Since it was e

"There is no dealer support, was told by the dealer that they are just the middle man. When the dealer was called, he gave the number to the distributor as the only support available for this machine."
What a pathetic statement from a dealer. As a metal detector dealer for over 35 years this sort of stuff makes my blood boil. Dealers are not middle men - they are the people taking yo

Air tests are not useless - but if you think they tell you much about performance in bad ground of one machine relative to another, good luck with that.
Machines as a rule do not gain depth in the ground. There are however machines that lose far less depth when used in real conditions than other machines. A basic PI air tests poorly against a hot VLF. However, in real bad ground the VLF may lo

If I remember correctly Jim posts here as Humblepie but he has been absent from the forums awhile now - no doubt out prospecting. Hopefully he is finding lots of silver!

Be careful with tracking on during air tests. Mine seemed overly aggressive so you may want to get a proper ground balance then turn tracking off before air testing.

I appreciate the side comments on the Relic and Racer 2. From what I have seen the Euro style machines excel at separating ferrous from non-ferrous but are not so hot at locking on VDI numbers. The US style machines tend to excel at cherry picking certain VDI numbers, but seem to lack the edge the Euro machines are finding in the thick ferrous. Makes sense for the two different scenarios, open fi

The three weeks mine spent going to White's and back could have been better spent learning more about the machine, and now I have too much else going on. The MX Sport obviously has a lot of raw power if you can harness it for your conditions and style of hunting. Old California (Paul) was very impressed with the machine in prospecting mode which has the iron grunt feature and is in effect a

I am sorry to hear that. It's weird. Several people who would know see real promise in the MX Sport. Then there is the other side of the coin. It seems like there is more than just a firmware issue here that is producing wildly varying reports. Some bad coils slipping into the mix maybe? By all accounts so far the all metal and prospecting mode are fine, issues seem to be related to the disc

I am very interested in hearing how it goes with you Daniel. Your in ground tests almost always match mine to a tee.
I really disliked the headphone connection location. It should have been next to battery door. If it has to be on backside of pod, they should have included wireless headphone capability for dry land hunters, and left the hardware connection for the underwater headphones. You ei

This poll started because of perceptions. Specifically, mine was decidedly negative. I started with a negative perception and so I mentally filtered and focused on negative issues and reports supporting my negative view. In my mind White's had a major public relations issue they needed to be aware of. I gave a person at White's considerable heat over it in various ways.
Now, I am not

Ok, big experiment here, so please take this seriously. I have the ear of a person at White's to whom I have expressed a few concerns. I am posting this here and on my forum only because both forums have knowledgeable, thoughtful members and no censorship of honest opinions. Let's live up to that here with some quality responses. Please, no bashing, and no people trying to sway things.

Wow, high praise, thank you gentlemen.
I have to admit I thought I was in for a repeat of what I have done many times in the past - get a new White's detector that flat out works and have something great to use and talk about. It was that way for me with the GMT, MXT, TDI, Surf PI, M6, and many older machines. I just googled "Steve Herschbach White's Electronics" and got 21

It is not about having to let people go in business, it is how you go about doing it. After everything, Jimmy gone, and not a public word of thanks? I think White's could have done better.

What's wrong with reverse engineering? I don't think it was meant as a charge or a negative. As long as copyright is not violated the best road to success is to copy success and improve on it if possible. There is not a detector made today that does not stand on the shoulders of countless detectors made before and the efforts of others.

Sure seems easier to just ignore people on the internet you don't trust or believe for any reason. Anyone that has been around long enough can develop their own opinions about who they think is worth listening to and who to ignore. Nobody should rely exclusively on any one source for information, and a cautious buyer would wait after any new machine is released for months to pass and a conse

The Makro Gold Racer is one of my favorite detectors ever. I wanted White's to make a 50 kHz MXT and they never would. I have also told people it was what I think a Gold Bug 3 might have been if there ever had been one. I have used the Gold Bug 2 since having one of the very first ones made and when I got my first prototype Gold Racer I sold my last Gold Bug 2 and have not regretted it yet.
