Let's say you sell your E-Trac for 1000.00. Then buy the basic CTX package. At today's spot silver price you only have to dig about 515 silver dimes to make up the difference.

Brian, Synthnut's assessment exactly describes (better than I did) what I was trying to say in other post about the time it takes to 'master' a good high end unit.

I looked closely into this Hori/Hori tool...my opinion...it will never be able to take the stresses that a Lesche/Predator digger can.

SAT adjusts the time it takes for the detector to recover from one target and be able to detect the next one. That is one of the downfalls of a detector that runs in Autotune ground balance. Hit a trashy enough area and the detector is not recovering from last target registered. Thus one misses alot of stuff. Now this downfall can be circumvented, if detector has ability to adjust SAT threshold a

LOL...its a 505 Brian....gotta do what ya gotta do. Now get out there and buy one of the bad*** detectors we have recommended
I forgot to add my two cents about halos....its anecdotal, can't be scientifically proven by me, but I also think, from experience in the field, that metals of certain compositions, long buried, leach something into the soil or alter it, that makes the detector mor

All the machines mentioned are good units. Its really up to you. The E-Trac is awesome in most conditions...costs the most. Omega...AT Pro are great units in their price range. Any of these will provide far superior performance to the 505. All we can do is recommend. Is there possibly a multi-line detector dealer(s) around your neck of the woods that maybe you could get some hands on experience w

Its not the mechanics of the machine thats time-consuming to learn......its the interpretation of what the machine is saying under a multitude of changing conditions. And no manual in the world can provide that experience. I was a navy corpsman/EMT....and worked on the human body.....which is far more complex than any machine ever invented. Now do computers. Ask me is which easier to diagnose and

If sensitivity is that individualized in callibration, to each machine...then what is the point of testing at 100% sensitivity, or testing at all ?

I like Bryanna's idea of varying sensitivity...as we all know mineralization/sensitivity levels vary worldwide. And Mark G's salt solution.

Albert, 2" rusty nail over a U.S. quarter.....like the test @ FMall. I have pulled dimes with rusty nails above them in the hole...in dirt...not air. Thanks

This is the Findmall post that Earthman is referring to. I replicated Digger's CTX tests with my Omega/5" DD and posted results. Try as I could....was unable to get the Omega to read the quarter under the nail. There was also other test I did. Now, I wonder what, if any, Fisher/Other mfg's models past/present can achieve these CTX results.
Would love to see some results of sam

First Texas is slow on the draw with email...heard that several times before. I recommend you call them. That is how I deal with them. 1-800-413-4131 They are on Central Standard Time. 9-3:00pm usually works best. And I get quick results. However, of the 3 machines you outlined, I would recommend the Omega. I've used the X-terra 705....its good...but I still prefer the Omega. Which I own. Th

Why don't they combine their very best features from several models into one unit. Let's say like a F-75LTD...I think they would sell quite a few units. Still lots of Tesoro fans out there.

This is probably a really dumb question.....but is it at least theoretically possible....to construct a shielded coil that could utilize alot more 'sensitivity'....yet not be affected by EMI.....something like a 'focused beam'...or something....to use a real layman's term. Innovative coil design seems to be on the backburner...with the emphasis on software......it seems t
