I’ve mentioned it a few times but things need to click I would say :-)
When micro beach hunting, don’t waist your time with a sifter or screen.
Narrow the scoop down to a tablespoon full of sand and dump in your finds bag.
At home pan the entire contents of your finds bag.
My scoop for the job at hand is a plastic prospecting scoop with a section of carbon tube to extend the handle.

Beach diggers,..... DIG,..... PERIOD.
If it sounds off non ferrous,... its probably impervious to salt water and doesn’t corrode. That should ring a bell :-)
Foil and gold don’t mix on a wind and wave swept beach.
In the dry sand people like to dig a hole and dump their trash in it. So back to basics,... DIG!

@Tnss Hunting worked fields and beaches they are never hunted out. Soil gets turned over, sand eroded and accumulates. Iron deteriorates and gets smashed by plows, tillers, seeders, beach cleaning machines. You hunt and look at what is in your pouch, try to remove some big iron in the process.
It simply isn’t possible to clean it out in a lifetime with a metal detector and a digger.

@Wilci I gather you are very proficiant with a Deus. And that isn’t a bad machine at all. It has found a lot of great stuff and will continu to find great stuff.
But what it boils down to with an Equinox is that the ground comes alive with targets.
Sunday I managed to do 200 meters of field with the Nox 800 in Field 1 with the only modification of adding 2 points of iron bias.
Only dug a few

Certainly not in the X-mas spirit!
I always buy a book round X-mas time,... if it doesn’t read and inspire,... just buy another.
Cranberrie sauce and turkey,... brings a smile to my face.
Walks through the snow are very humbling, chop some wood with an axe for a change,... sit and enjoy the midday sun all wrapped in your thermals.
Watch a little TV, listen to a few new kids on the block.

So true, so true!
These days the first thing I do with any new model is download the repair manual.
And if it has got any sensors, the diagnostic software if a real help, and when it finally burps a code.
They all do,...
Then first check wiring to see if it is getting signal.
So there we have it, the mechanic has changed into an IT guy and needs to understand his electrics.

We simply can’t even think about using these machines to their fullest potential.
Especially the complicated ones.
I spent 15 years in a factory operating computer controlled machines 36 hours a week.
I was learning stuff till the last day of my employment.
I’m self employed in powertools selling, service and repair. I find I’m learning new stuff every day.

If the Equinox is an “X-terra Evolved” then bottlecaps will not be a problem.
These days I dig them, certainly on the beach. Especially if any coinage is found in the vicinity.
When park hunting the 705 gave a warbly sound to the high tone. And the tip of the coil trick is near 100% sure.
The 705 had another trick up it’s sleeve, something I picked up from the writings of Des D.

In a pratical detecting situation I’ve found the 24 segments of the X-terra more than ample.
Because I usually hunt in 2 tone, sometimes even single tone.
Because single tone is actually a 3 tone: Threshold, Null, Beep and you use the segments to null the targets you don’t want.
How the targets fall into these segments is KEY.
Same with the CTX, you can assign 50 tones, but you can make

If they set it up as per their graph the Multi-IQ will be sensitive to everything.
But sometimes you don’t want everything, low frequency for high large conductors, high frequency for small non-ferrous.
Multi-IQ is the recon mode, the single frequencies are the “clean-up”.
Having the multi and the single in 1 unit will indeed obsolete carrying 2 or more detectors in the car boot.

My first detector was the BBS excalibur,... I hunt beaches most of the time.
Just knobs to turn and audio to learn, once I got the pinpoint mod done it was a joy to use.
Find a target in pinpoint, couple of sweeps in disc. And if it’s too your linking then dig.
This thing has got the most analog feel to it and a personality of it’s own.
Seeking out new adventures I tried my hand at relic, p

They haven’t mentioned a word about BBS or FBS units.
I’m really hoping it will help the ID of a VLF. I’ve grown use to questioning the guesstimate my units make.
Is it deep,... could be something good.
Do I need to re groundbalance a lot,... not sure if it’s telling me the truth.
Usually my VLF’s don’t lie, but often they speak another dialect. You just have got to know the local language.

Carl shot that warbird out of the sky with a single shot out of his BB gun.
Hate to think what he’d do when he comes in All Guns Blazing.
Made my week that did!

Well indeed from an operators point of view, you are only guessing at what the detector is trying to pull out of the ground.
Short answer is the difference between Auto Sensitivity and Manual Sens.
In Manual you can hit an area and it becomes very busy in the headphones, switch it over to Auto and all goes pretty quiet.
Aha!
In Manual you can detect a large target from way off, switch to au

It does indeed look a lot like one of those Quest episodes. However it has a Minelab logo and was dropped on a parachute.

It indeed has black, by now graying, plastic connectors. Works fine when mounted on the shaft and the coil cable neatly, firmly wrapped around the shaft.
Then gently fixed with a helping of duct tape :-)
CZ’s aren’t very popular here. The dealer who sold the second hand unit to me probably never heard of the problem. Or,... well you know &-)

Just bought a second hand CZ 6 which is touch sensitive where the coil wire attaches to the box.
Its a los banos model in desperate need of some TLC.
As I was going to hip mount it, well that’s out of the question. It hunts, but falsing every sweep just doesn’t build confidence.
Anyone still work on them?

That’s just the way marketing is done these days Des.
I’ve been to dealershows where we were handed polystyreen mockups, awesome promises and were asked to brainstorm about this or that product.
Add to that a release date in the near future and publicity through the correct channels.
Result is backorders, customers wanting/needing/complaining and you can count your blessings when it finally

Steveg those are a lot of What If’s.
My detectors haven’t gone the O-word,... they have become Classics. A joy to use, promptly making short work of the job at hand.
But Multi-IQ has entered the arena and if it lives up to expectations, they will consolidate their fanbase.
And gather momentum from new owners.
With bluetooth connectivity on board we are one step closer to the I-tector.

@DrTones great to hear the airpods are working. I'm glad to loose my geek status when wearing headphones and of top of that a wooly hat in winter.
Makes us more credible towards the younger generation. Although you don't often see them in winter,... they tend to go into hibernation.
Classic headphones and a wireless module, who can fault that.

Especially since there is the off chance of it working together with my airpods.
From what I’ve seen and heard :-)
