I wish what Keith was saying about the AT Pro wasn't true, but in my experience it is.
I got my first AT Pro in the spring of 2011. We had been getting a lot of rain at that time and I measured a 1959 penny at 10" deep. Soft, but not an iffy signal. For a short period of time, I was pulling a lot of 7-9" deep coins. And while they were softer modulated signals, they were not

I used a F5 as my primary or backup detector for the better part of three years.
Depth is good but not great. There are numerous machines that will get better depth. But in its price range, the F5 does well. And you're right neb, the detector is not particularly good on nickels.
A big key to getting the best depth is to run the detector as hot as you can and still have it stable -

Jimmy, I agree that is a large variance between 14" and 24" assuming they are both at the same settings.
Sometimes deep depth claims are best taken with a grain of salt, but Keith is a straight-shooter. If he says he hears a quarter at 2 feet, he does.

Your ability and integrity is unquestioned here, Keith. Please never hesitate to post your observations. If FT has gotten the EMI issue licked on their high end detectors that is major news...I believe the phrase around these parts is "paradigm shift."
It sounds like maybe the rumor you heard a while back about a cell phone tower going up next to the FT plant was true...bringing ab

Good to see you're back and detecting, Lawrenzo. I'm sure it was a great feeling for you to be back. Hopefully many years uninterrupted now!

I kind of agree with you, goodmore. My experience with the AT hasn't been lousy depth, but it could definitely be more in many areas if Garrett would just notch up the sensitivity the equivalent of a couple bars..
Anytime you have a detector you can run at max sensitivity most places (not to mention usually with a negative GB bias), that machine should have the sensitivity cranked up a

Most problems clear up on their own, so it's easy to put off going to the doctor too long. Been guilty of that myself for sure. Glad to hear the tumor is benign.
A good reminder to appreciate every day we are blessed to be alive, My prayers are with you, John.

JT - If what you were saying was true, those Los Banos cz-3ds wouldn't have such a sizable dedicated following of veteran skilled detectorists.
From my experience, which is admittedly way less than many here, a properly calibrated cz-3d can be used effectively in most older areas. My AT Pro with the small coil is my go to in heavy iron spots, but the cz-3d will soundly trump the AT for d

There's a nice 1021 on fleabay certified by Tom at 12.0 and it made me wonder. What is the deepest cz-3d Tom has calibrated and certified?
Do any of the newer cz-3ds ever test out at as much as 12"? I don't recall ever seeing anything but a 1021 or 1121 certified at 12 inches or better.
Because of the inferior specs and tuning on at least most of newer cz-3ds, it seems li

From the timeline that's been established, I would have been in third grade when I saw my first clad coin.
I don't remember a lot of details, but I remember I was with a friend who also collected coins in his back yard when I noticed the different looking quarter in my change. I remember the "sandwich" coin had been hyped a lot before it came out so we knew what it was.

I know when I had poison ivy on almost every inch of my body a number of years ago, my doctor gave me the steroid dosepak and it didn't do squat. Went to the dermatologist and he said the doctor had the right idea but the steroid dosage was about five times too low for such a serious case. It cleared up really quickly after seeing the dermatologist.

Thanks to all for the excellent responses in this thread.
Tom, your memory is encyclopedic. Very interesting to hear that circulating silver took a sizable drop in your area in an approx. 5 month period between 4/70 and 9/70. My area seems to have lost its circulating silver at a bit quicker pace than yours. In the days before cable, the internet, and the omnipresent social media, trends w

Back at ya, Keith. You're a credit to the hobby, and the knowledge you share is extensive.
As someone who very much appreciates your detector reviews, I'm sure glad you get a hankering to use pretty much every new machine that comes out!

Very important info indeed, Tom.
As metal detectorists, our fascination with the timeline for silver fading from circulation is much more than just academic curiosity.
Tom, you are a metal detecting guru and your statistical knowledge of our hobby is unmatched. But I think your timeline is overly optimistic. While I wouldn't argue that silver coins could be found at a 1970 house, I d

My vague memory as a little kid was that the first clad coin I noticed was with a childhood buddy. It was a quarter and we talked about how it looked different. I remember we were excited to see what had been hyped as the sandwich coin.
Thanks for sharing the post above, go rebs. Now I know that clad dimes didn't actually get into circulation until March 1966 and quarters a few months

Kevin, the last silvers were all dated 1964. Even if they were minted in 1965 or 1966. The exception would be a rare error type coin where a supposed to be clad coin was accidentally struck on a silver planchet like the one go rebs listed above.
Very interesting info, Tom, that silver coins were apparently released up until mid-1966 and released concurrent with clad. That seems logical sinc

Interesting to read this historical document.
I had read that 1964 dated silver coins were minted into 1965, but I didn't realize how many and for how long. The clad quarter didn't even start circulating until Nov. 1965 and the clad dime had to be at least after July 23, 1965. They also had plans to mint a billion more silver coins after that July date, whether they did or not I

Beeman, there are a lot of different opinions on this forum and they are freely expressed. Don't take it personally when some have a different opinion than you.
Lawrenzo, it's good to see your posts. My prayers for you to be well enough to get back in the dirt real soon.

I seldom watch videos but I finally decided to see what this thread was about.
I've come across unfilled holes before and it ticks me off. You can tell for sure it's one of our own and not an animal when you see pieces of metal trash by some of the holes or thrown against a nearby tree. I'd have no problem reading someone like that the riot act. But I wouldn't childishly

BeeMan, welcome to the hobby. Quite possibly you were inspired to start detecting by one of these shows. The general trend I've seen is that those new to the hobby seem to like these shows. Others who have been detecting a while, not so much.
The original question was not worded to influence any opinions for the worse. It simply asked for opinions about this show on a non-sponsored fo

What specs? Who needs specs anyway when "The machine does all the work. You just pick up the money and valuable rings and stuff."
Based on the warranty and the retailer selling it, I'm guessing it's Chinese made for Kellycocca.
The Chinese detectors I've seen in the past seem to have one year lim

Elbert, even after the fees, you'll usually do better selling a cz-3d on ebay as opposed to the forums.
Also for your knowledge when you sell it, the 11.9" validation is not an airtest. It's the depth Tom gets on a clad dime in his Florida dirt.
