Whats odd is a deep bent nail seems to give a better high pitch than a straight one. Then you have round bolts. I also get more high tones from Hot Rocks in the summer than winter when its wetter.

Some detectors will ID the HOLE once a deep plug is removed and ignores the targets. But i can say ive had it happen with the Explorer Steve. But then.... if it tells me its there ive come to believe it and just keep digging and probing. Thats where a good probe really helps. Ive noticed in fields with the SE you just cant get aways from the small rust... in cond those hot rocks sound go

He does have a couple of books out and is on the ML website doing articles for them. Ill just say a Hell of a lot of unbelievable finds are coming from Southern Florida by Gary and that coin.... looks like it was dropped yesterday. Its possible hes not giving up the true location of his finds or has a really good clean up method. Im new to Florida but ive not talked to anyone who had hunt

Thats encouraging about the foot print. That was my big concern with hunting in PP. In ID mode threshold setting is important for weak signals normally. Ive heard a lot of chatter about setting the threshold a little louder and turning down the volume. My hunting tells me this doesnt make sense.... but i have noticed at 3/4 volume buried targets are clearer on the Xcal. I guess the per

I did a lot of field and old home sites Tom.... i think old buttons are interesting especially those worn on uniforms after the Civil War. People seemed to still wear these uniforms around the farm. Im amazed as to how many various buttons you find around an old home... from flat to bone.

Im still listening to both side of the PP vs Disc mode hunting. I read something the other day that was interesting.... the writer said that since PP doesnt false you can run it full sensitivity and can swing it much quicker than in Disc? He also said it picked up targets better than disc because the added sensitivity increased the coil HALO or foot print. Its not been my experience that P

Odd that it doesnt have schoville or waterbury. 2 piece crimped buttoms were first made in 1813 then the 2 piece hollow round button held together by a thin rim (staff buttons) came out in the 1830s and was used until 1902. Civil War era buttons may show a circular depression at the base around the shank. Shanks inset into holes in the button is typical after World War I. Which could be why it

You m;ight also get with someone like Batteries Plus they can build you a cheaper set up than the 1600 ML pack. I used my SE with low disc in trashy parks and was out there for 6 or 7 hours and still had battery left. Ive had my ML pack since i bought the SE when they first came out.... whats that been 3 years and rarely use anything but the ML pack. But i do keep the AA pack in the care wit

Bruce CANDY was an Australian university professor that was asked to help develop a better detector, which he did in 1986 .... the goldseeker 15000. Bruce and the engineers then started working on new development in 1998.... by 1999 the Explorer S and XS. He wasnt listed on the Engineering and Design team for the Etrac. Paul Congdon was the Project manager. However the ML site had this on

Steve... i believe you have the SE like me. I wouldnt recommend them if you still have a warranty. I dont know what kind of combined voltage they produce.... but i know the manual says: Rechargeable Lithium Ion can NOT be used because they produce voltage above 13 V. Take a look at the Tenergy 2600's. I think you will find they last a LOT longer than many rechargeables.

It may be as simple as the FBS uses random freq settings as opposed to the BBS using a set 1.5 kHz intervals or possibly their salt setting since the BBS seems more designed for the beach. Ive never used the Sov, but know its a good machine, but i am using the Xcal and i air test every item and my SE is always able to hit those items as good if not better.

Its hard to maintain a system when there are far more people about to draw SS than pay in. Barrowed.... id say the government stole our pension. They took our savings and spent it.... how would they pay it back? Im on a pension....yep.... 22 years in the Military. That was something i earned and everyone benefited from. There wasnt a lot of saving money in the military.... most of th

Like was said...... detectors do what they do... see metal, its still there even when disc.
I think in mineralized soil you have more combining and compacting much like hard pan in the water. That alone will reduce coin movement.
Ive got to go with increasing audio with sensitivity.... but with increased audio the processor will be the key to what you hear.... which could allow you to he

I think you have a great idea on the personal phone call training. Way to think outside the box. Just please..... no calls to Bob in India or being put on hold for an hour lol. You could get mighty busy or maybe you are and this is your way of cutting down on all those calls you must certainly get. I hope this works for everyone..... finally someone with real world advice you can trust.

Thats a big YES on coins. These deep coins are weak but very repeatable. Admittedly im new to the Xcal.... but not the SE. But if it churps with the Xcal i dig. I dont really see this as a concern since i use the SE on the dry/wet sand..... thats why i havent gotten rid of it. Its a very good machine.

Anyone know how these prices affect the RED or BLUE book collector value on these coins? Id have to think it has some affect. Not only that but companies like ARA will be getting a lot more to melt at those prices. That reduction alone has to have some affect on future values similar to the MINT scrapping them. The average Joe wont think twice about going to those thieves with the signs i

Ill take the SE out with it. I did go over a section the other day that it was quiet on.... but the SE is an animal on deep coins on the beach that the Xcal dont see. You are right thou these beaches are pretty clean around me except for the pretty deep stuff. I guess i can talk about this till the cows come in.... but PROPER testing is what i need to do. Thanks Jim.

I think this is another example of why Tom has a test garden. If you havent used a certain machine you dont know how it functions at its best and worth..... or even that its functioning properly. Dont get me wrong i know it finds targets because i just got my gold check back from ARA. I just have to do more testing with a partner who has experience on this machine. Ive used that high be

I agree Jim and ive hunted with less sensitivity hunting in trash areas many times looking for those missed targets. I had several machines but this machine NEVER has a problem hunting MAX sensitivity. So it makes me think the sensitivity ISNT working properly. Is it getting good depth on targets yes. So most people wouldnt worry about it but i dont like scratching my head about my equi

For me its the smartscreen. You can just look at the screen and get a very good idea as to what you are dealing with. Its simpler to look at than watching bouncing digits. Also there is no machine that produces the sound of silver that the ML does. I liked the DFX as well.... the dual freq at 3 and 15 khz allowed you to separate targets by like was mentioned by using either of those freqs

Im hearing a few more users are out there with the Etrac/Exp on the beaches.... but it still seems the Sov is king along with the Xcal as the must have. Just curious BBS vs FBS which is the better on the beach? I know the BBS Sov has preset channels at 1.5 increments and the FBS is random. The forums really seem to push the mass movement toward a given machine.... i noticed that swift shif

Patents are available for review.... but they are very generic. Most of the factory settings are set modestly at best and its the users who end up getting .... or not... the best out of the equipment. Its like being book smart.... but not being able to apply what you know. You can look at all the numbers and screens you want.... but they still have people that test them in the field who try

The straight shafts are just becoming a requirement if you are using the heavier coils. Nice job. Thats one thing i do like about those machines that can be hip mounted... you have so many options to MOD your own equipment. Seems like they would be smart to sell just the coil and detector without the rod now days lol.

I noticed something today on the beach about the Xcal. Ive hunted with the Exp SE on the beach and i have to tweak it to get the best sensitivity and depth. Well i remember Tom on his DVD talking about tweaking the Xcal while watching a heavy ring sink. My Xcal runs with little falsing at the highest setting of 10 yet everyone said they run theirs at 6. Ive always been one to get the most

Sorry about the confusion. I was more interested in the QUICK CHARGER i showed in the web site. I was trying to figure out how they worked and see if i could reduce it to a single charger and still get a fast charge. Believe it or not ..... i met the guy yesterday while out on a hunt. He can put one together for me for under a $100. I think the 110 V trickle charger is the cheapest thing

Thanks...... its clicked now and i have a much better understanding of what would be required to not only charge the battery fully but at a quicker pace. I was curious since id seen the set up and it seemed expensive and wondered why 2 devices were needed. Ok..... now for my next question. Do they make a device you can plug the charger into that plugs into the wall with an idiot light show

Tri.... did you take a look at the detector forum i put up? They are using a 13.8 V charger.... is the other device doing the quick charge? Next question is ... is it being under charged because of the 13.8 V charger? Let me get this straight.... if i use a charger of equal V as the factory one BUT it produces more MA then its charging quicker and a second device wouldnt be needed? Thank
