Dont know about a swinging coil wire..... but i do have a little experience with the twisting and moving of the inline probe. Had to have mine fixed/replaced because the wire cracked at the probe. They get a lot of movement and sure nuff breaks. Thanks for the PM by the way. I see what you are talking about the wire stop. I had plans of using one just didnt know it was called that.

Waist to chest is where most people stand/swim and play. Hands get to moving or the rings are to loose with the colder water and sand. Depending on the sand its dropped in such as depth to hard pan it may or may not move. That seems to be a good reason we hunt the low tides and wet sand.... recent drops or drops lost in shallower sand farther out.

I noticed some of the RTG scoops had a handle on them to make it easier to shake the sand thru. Got me thinking and i found an attachable one at Kellyco.... so i started doing some looking around. You can count on wally world..... found the BACK SAVER that attaches to yard tools. It appears to be nylon at a reasonable price $10. Attached easily and i tried it out seems to work pretty well

What i found in semi auto with the SE is it has a distinct cut off.... i mean a quarter of an inch and its gone. Where in manual it still knows there is a target and continues to attempt an ID. Thats why many of us hunt in manual.... we are will to deal with a little chatter or unstable ID in hopes of pulling out a oldie by tone. Not may if any machine does better in soil than air testing..

At first i thought it was an add for a FORD truck. The AT still is a pretty good detector.... but i think it was the concept that drew most of the people to it. Water proof and possibly all around detector at a heck of a price. I never buy the first few models.... now you know why. If its good it will be around tomorrow..... if there are problems oh boy will you hear about it... even i

Ive been here almost a month as well beach hunting with the ML SE. I have a few more finds than you .... but my Xcal comes Monday and i got the RGT scoop yesterday. This gives me a couple of options now. Bob, i may pick up some trash for awhile.... but there has to be some good stuff with it. Its amazing how much the beaches change in a day or two. There can be a PILE of sand come in o

Ever wonder how they are made? I was pretty surprised when i watched this You Tube video of a craftsman at work.
Obviously he aint making a lot of them each day. Amazing to think how they made them before they had these machines.

Ive always used a butcher knife and a good digger. I can make a deep flap quickly which leaves very little to the digger except removing the dirt. Even in hard dirt it thin, tuff, and does a good clean very thin cut. I have a cloth nail pouch with a hammer holder that the digger fits nicely in. I attach a EARTH magnet to the top of the blade and the knife just snaps on and off quickly.

What is interesting is most of us are talking about detectors with VID or TID screens. What do the SOV, Xcal or other tones ID machines handle this question? Are most of these machines used on the beach where they tend to ignore iron?

Im liking this beach hunting Tom. Without a lot of minerals you can really isolate deep targets and acquire some information you might not get while dirt hunting. However, those things learned can be applied when back on solid ground. Get the Xcal this weekend ..... its on its way. Then the fun starts. As much as i hunt im hoping to learn it quickly.

The in line was my choice and ive had them on all my detectors since Ralph started putting them out. I like the switch from coil to probe it eliminates EMI i was getting from the hand held. Ive never lost one yet but lost 2 hand helds and you know what they cost. They have great depth, they attach so you arent looking for some place to put them, can better be used indoors for testing target

I find its not only the detector that affects the results but its the hunter setting up their equipment wanting to push the envelope. For me dirt hunting has all the added issues of size, minerals, moisture, and a lot more targets in that 7 gal of soil that processor is attempting to read than the beach. Id certainly dig more of the fringe targets on the beach than i have in Indiana soil. J

Im also one of those guys who try to convince the wife we have all the found wealth as gold and silver goes up. Everytime i find an old coin or something i think is worth something.... she said aint worth nothing because you never sell anything. Im going to surprise her some day soon...... going to send some gold and silver out. Ill see how she handles that then ill tell her i need ONE MOR

I saw someone using a dive belt with what looked like a tool hock on it. He attached the bottom part of the scoop to it on his side and the handle drug the ground. This was wet sand hunting..... but my SE with pick up my hand scoop attached that away every time i swing it. Not a pro here Tom but will be in the water a lot since im retired and 5 min from the beach. I wanted one of the div

Just wondered if you put the detector in your arm pit and leaned on it in the water. Then you slid the hand down the scoop once you make the dig to lift it? Ive used them on the dry and wet sand... cant believe its nearly the same in chest deep water. I dont think PP will be the hardest for me since im used to the DD coils. I have no doubt the Xcal is an excellent machine. The Sov is one

Ive been youtubeing it listening to various tones the Xcal makes on targets. Sounds a lot like a plainer in a wood shop lol. It may improve my SE hunting ... because it appears to a little like hunting in LONG.... where the target tones are stretched. Also.... curious how do you hang onto both the scoop and detector? I saw some had handles close to the scoop... which seemed practical. S

I understand reverse disc, PP or auto tone.... but unless you are digging it all sounds like you take a lot of time switching to disc on say and Xcal. Which if the machine can hit it in disc mode in the first place wheres the pay off? Why not just hunt in disc? Do you remove a scoop of sand before switching to disc? If its a depth deal you have to dig it all or some way get the distance t

Interesting guy and information including some of his videos. Relic hunting unlike park or home hunting does allow for more than a couple of guys out there. It can be a fun weekend. Gets hard to knock on doors with 2 guys setting in the truck any more or even for a club to find a place to hunt. The guys that know their stuff can keep you from throwing away stuff you thought was junk... th

I hope Tom dont take offense... but i loved the Beach hunting portion of the RELIC/BEACH cd. Wasnt crazy about the relic portion because it was a little more archeological directed. My concept of relic hunting appears to be surface/random as some would call it. All done at good sites, girding included, but.... i guess we should have done more sifting and digging.

Id think hunting in autotune in a trashy area would be like mind numbing after awhile. Ive not used say an Xcal yet, but unlike the PIs im not certain you can distinguish metals. The PI guys can still get a size and a real good idea as to what they are digging. I know if i used PP mode with the SE id be digging everything that beeped without having any idea what it was by tone. A bad beach

Very sweet find TD. Bagged a couple of silver ones as well.... i had a very nice day. We had some wave action yesterday and it moved a little sand. I hunted the dry sand just before the wet. Nothing but shells were showing. I was using the Exp SE. Once i get the Xcal im hoping ill need that site.... plus a good gold exchange price and location. Gold is going nuts.

You know i was yanking your chain about it being ugly. Im looking into making one our of a 5 gal bucket like the gold sifters for the GULF water. Ive been hunting with a butcher knife for years and i hunt a lot of the Indy parks where the police stations are. Ive never had an issue with the police or people. I dont dig with the knife lol, i cut the flap and it is sooo much faster than a

Tatter masher and duck tap.... i know it works but thats one ugly device . Ive always kept it simple. In parks and such i use a butcher knife and garden trowel, in the woods and fields i have a hand designed shovel. Im new to this but .... detector and a 4 lb plus scoop and then the sifter may be to much. However you have a great point about it being used as a floatation device. Exhaustion

How many of you water hunters use a floating sifter? Are they practical? Is it just easier to have a scoop with wire back and shake it? I was curious why people use them and was thinking its just one more thing hanging on you. If you have the proper scoop are they worth while.

Aaron..... i ordered a RTG 7" one monday. To be honest thou ive always dug a lot of targets and i guess ive gotten used to digging. The sand is a piece of cake.... most holes im digging takes a good 3 scoops. Im aware it takes longer and time which limits the amount of targets you dig. Right now im just getting a feel for whats on these beaches, where to dig, and generally collecting

I dont know about that TD... their Pro coil is excellent as are many of their smaller coils.... they just didnt top their coil that was on the Explorer II when they came out with the slimline. But it was good for those who had the Exp II coils for awhile they were going high.

I noticed during my reading the Xcal has the NEW slimline coil. Is this coil similar to the one they used on the SE when it first came out? I certainly hope not its not nearly as stable as the larger Pro coil. That was the first thing i changed to IMPROVE performance on the SE. Its pretty obvious they can find things but with a better coil like a Pro you might get a little more sensitivity
