Hmm...how about a box of Partagas PS2's instead of a ticket and kennel boarding :-)
I'm going to Corning, NY in the middle of October, I have 3-4 or so detecting days planned into the trip (planning to look for Colonial cellar holes).
I know, it's not close to Ohio, but it's closer then California

Is that Wiffleboy SR or JR ?
Nice finding Brad. It sounds like Fisher should skip the 5" DD included in the package and include one of those fancy extra heavy duty shovels instead :-)
I'm still skeptical of the LTDs in my soil, however I am VERY hopeful.

Tom this is interesting, isn't this effectively what Fisher did with the SL (slow) mode on the F70?

This iron disc mod has me interested, it would be a super simple mod. A small switch could easily be mounted at the rear of the case. When the iron disc mod poster states that small iron would give a low tone (normal iron grunt tone), but larger iron would produce a higher tone, do you believe this would be the foil tone? If I understand his mod correctly it would effectively be like adding a

Tom I tried to set the sensitivity at 6 at the site I hunted this afternoon, and although it was better then the site I previously tried 6 at, it was still falsing a bit more then I'd like. It was tolerable, but it reminds me of my F70 :-)
Although I didn't make any stellar numismatic finds, I did dig the deepest coin I believe I've yet to dig. I got a signal that bounced be

I was reading all the old findmall forum CZ70 posts, and ran across a post whereas a gentlemen claims that by adding a 0.01µF cap between the white lead on the RX side of the coil and ground (he has a switch to switch it on/off), that he gets better iron disc results making the CZ machines great relic hunters. This is what he claims:

Hmmm...I would assume these upgraded T2/F75 LTD machines have something to do with Tom's survey
If the microprocessor has been upgraded to a faster CPU then it would appear that at a minimum a CPU transplant as well as a code upgrade would be required (unless they simply over

Thanks Tom.
The park I'm going to tomorrow is the only place I've ever hunted that I've been able to max the sensitivity on threshold settings on both my C$ and my F70, so I suspect the CZ70 should perform very well here, and may well run well with the sens at 6 to get those extra deep coins.

IF FT doesn't address the EMI issues on the T2 LTD and F75 LTD then these new machines will be a waste of money for most areas I hunt.
I assume they use the same coils as their T2 & F75 predecessors?
Streak where are these preliminary tests coming from?
Keeping my fingers crossed they addressed the EMI issues !!

I found this post on a CZ Tips page, and although he doesn't state the benefit of using a positive GB, I assume it's increased depth.
I wonder if using a positive GB will add falsing, and if so, if you'd achieve the same depth increase as using a sens of 6 (assuming you have a CZ70 that falses when set above 4) ?
I've also been told (although the manual doesn't indi

The F70 is basically setup the same as the F75, except you have threshold in disc mode. Typically I find that setting the threshold at -9 helps to knock out tiny pieces of junk, as well as help stabilize the machine, and I tend to leave it there. F70 SL mode is the same as JE mode on the F75, DE mode is the same on both. I also run my disc at 6, nothing notched, and run the sens as high as I c

The F70/F75 are great machines, but I'm tired of being handicapped by EMI and mineralization when using them. The CZ is handling both with ease. It's not as fast, BUT if you want the deep stuff in parks you have to slow down no matter what machine your using, I'm willing to sacrifice a little speed for depth and better targets. I believe (from what I've read, and thus far i

Thanks Tom.
I left the sensitivity at 4 and was running the 10.5" coil (I love that coil!!!). I'll try setting the sensitivity at 6 tomorrow to see how she runs. That park dates back to the mid 1800's, maybe I can squeeze an extra couple of inches if it'll run with the sens at 6 and pick up some pre-1900's coins ?
The CZ70 ran real well, I believe the multifreq

So far I'm impressed with the depth and stability of the CZ-70 compared to most of my other detectors. I had a nice hunt this morning using my CZ-70 at a park I've used some of my other detectors at and didn't find too much with them:

Lance thanks for the lead, if the museum doesn't pan out, I'll check them out. If I can find this old fairground I may have a shot at an unhunted site as so far nobody I've spoken to up there that's into history seems to know much if anything about it.
The Santa Rosa area should have some great hunting sites. I used to live there, but many years before I started detecti

I never seem to get the depth out of my machines I hear others report, as I seem to be limited to about 6" on coins (not including silver dollars and halfs), and have machines that I know should have a LOT more horsepower (C$, F5, F70, Tek Omega, Edge, etc). I figure a test garden is the only way to really test these machines out in a controlled test environment to learn what their really c

Wingnut I'm not sure what Fisher detectors you have in your stable, but once you get some time on your V3, I'd be very interested to see how you think it stacks up against your Fishers.

Tom this is a good discussion, some great info here and food for thought.
I knew the audio and TID were independent, but adding the disc behavior into the equation really emphasizes the importance of using the monotone setting for thick iron hunting, I'm looking forward to trying this out.

Hi Tom,
Thanks for your reply. I figured the discrimination would work as expected (silencing targets lower than your disc setting), but wasn't sure about the less than 15 'disc to tone reprogramming' when using multitones. It's good to know the F70 is the same as the F75 in this regard, as I was under the impression that a multitone option didn't change anything behi

Thanks, I have been using the Sanborn maps for a while. Their great for inner city sites, but they leave you hanging on those suburban and beyond sites.

Tom I read your article in the most recent Fisher World Treasure Newsletter on "F-75 Peak Performance."
I was trying to equate the information to the F70. I've always (and perhaps incorrectly so) thought of the F70 as a F75 with less options, and for the most part assumed that coil for coil (say 11" DD for instance) both machines to be fairly equal in performance (depth ,

I know some people are able to get to the old topo maps to find old places to hunt. I live in Northern California and found a site that has San Francisco Bay Area topo maps, but I need maps further north of the SF Bay Area.
Can anyone point me to exactly where to view old topo maps ? I do know the name of the quadrant I want to see, and would like to see maps as far back as the 1880's a

Hey Lawrenzo,
Not quite, but I have more then I need. Ultimately I'm trying to get it down to three detectors - one salt water beach detector, which I'm perfectly happy with my Sovereign, and two multipurpose coin/relic machines (one main, and one backup) that

Mike I have both of these coils on my F70 and aside from the much slower coverage rate, the 5" DD is a great little coil, it's surgical. I was able to unmask a Barber dime that was being masked by a gold plated steel core Victorian era heart shaped locket. When you'd scan the heart from one direction you'd mainly get iron'ish TIDs, but from another direction I was able
