Sounds Good Sven if you have the time to run it.
Ebay can be hit and miss with what you get and the sellers fees now are over the top.

One thing I've learned over the years.
Its fun to do simulating masking scenarios etc.Gives you something of a clue. But the soil changes everything.
till you go on the hunt iron in the soil is way different than iron in the air or even reburied iron.
I like a Fast recovery unit or a blending tones ability unit,Combo of both even better.Something my ears and mind can figure out witho

The Apex is quite the puzzling machine.
It's I'm convinced as deep as or deeper than a AT PRO cant say on AT Max.Never had one.If it had the At Pro coil size as stock it may very well really show off on depth.especially with SMF.
Seems to from initial videos I've seen outperform anything Garrett has in there VLF line in Salt water yet its not waterproof?
I'm seeing so

Video of the Apex on Monte's Nail Board Test.
This is Monte's official Nail Board Test he sent me Years ago.
I think for the large size of the stock coil and DD its quite Good!!
Test done with factory tone break.Zero Disc.Multi Freq and some other solo freq's at one point for a comparison.
10" Dime

Yes very good depth and very good at discing out pulltabs.
I was hunting a site the other evening and it was full of modern trash and old iron.I set first disc on nail reject of about 25 and second on zinc reject right at point where they switched tone.
In one area I pulled a good many early wheats teens and 20s by hearing that tight hit in first disc and switching to second disc and they

Yeah the large cent under spike was just plain weird and may have been fused or something.
Just one of those weird times you were blown away from something you saw.
So many great units form the past and in the present .Just enjoy them and learn them no matter what you have .
I knew guys who use 40 year old machines to hunt with and had them since new and held together with duct tape and

I would say its more of a relic unit for iron sifting. With ability to hunt modern areas second to a metered unit with notches etc..
It's old school analog but with a couple of modern type twist. like iron volume and tone break by disc setting.

Arkansas you have some great insight to the 1266!!
Yes Sovereigns are really a great unit in big iron.
You can get a FBS especially a Safari to do about the same by notching out all iron-1 to-10 and removing the highest number +40.very very quiet in big iron.Yet doesn't have that unique Sovereign report. But still acts like the sovereign. And I suspect thats what the sovereign does with

Yes I still feel the Tejon was the best single tone un-masker to be built.

Nice Video!
Ozzie yes you can learn where to set it and then maybe tweak as you need to on site but should be in the ball park.
The salinity is the DNA of the unit that set it apart from others technology wise. an extra dimension for ground noise and ground see though.
The foils and lite metals small iron are a by product of that.Even with it just being turned on and set somewhere it h

Still lots of love for the 1200s for sure.
I know I used to dig three ringers with that 10.5 coil in some decent dirt fields deeper than anything i could find at that time.
I had to keep the disc to just stop ground chatter and listen for the round sweet tight faint hits.
I never could work iron like I could with my tesoros. But I knew guys who could.I was hunting a site once with a 1265

Thoughts on the 1266.
Used to think 30 years ago it was a noisy machine but been running one couple weeks I got off Morgan. And I must say by modern standards its well behaved. And acts like my 1236's with silencer off.
Still a serious unit in iron trash with small coils,Just like the 1236 is.

I have to run the ground balance positive instead of dead on as it try's to read fresh hole if I dont.
First its at 5 inches then move it to 4 inches.
Using the 8 Octagon coil.

Its on 16Khz Robert.
Little different than the normal freq offerings.
What's funny is I like the Rutus Alter on 16khz .for no other reason than its different.
