A friend of mine said "we should get metal detectors and look for coins". I said "Those things some guys use on the beach"? He said "Yep". We both got detectors and I got hooked he didn't. Every couple years he buys the latest and greatest and never uses them. I guess that was about 15 years ago. My best silver day was 8 Barber's, some quarters and a few di

NASA Tom, during yesterday's outing, I did not at all have the urge to wrap the MDT around something. It was a day of loving it, lol. Usually an ID of 29 or 30 with whisper high tones all around means a deep old crusty nail or rusted iron bolt or nut . . in soil around here anyway. I usually run 6KHz, yesterday I was on 9KHz. At the front & side of the house there was some EMI, weird, th

Ergonomics aside, I put the 11x8 inch coil back on the MDT yesterday to hunt an old permission that RodPa took me to. He warned me the property was machine gun iron, all over . . it was an in-town property and the town was built next to a good size creek. A place where there is no spot to GB. What I want to say is this coil has a better feel to it, not only weight wise but function and a better f

Very disappointing results, hastings. Total opposite results from calabash's. Calabash did say his targets were 14k gold. I don't know what to say. Did you test the unit on coins in the salt sand? Coil is ok? Unit is ok? . . . ... . Dang!

Impressive. Any reason you didn't use real gold jewelry for the target . . . .at least one or two? Small solid gold cross maybe. Enjoyed it, thanks hastings!

That was a good test. Were the coils the same size, couldn't tell? Lots of work that went into that video . . Looked cold out but he was able to get through the frost however thick it was. I believe when comparing units, they should be maxed out for the area and soil. A standard program on one machine may be different than another.

JCR, you can come close to virgin compaction by packing the soil in lifts. In other words, pack it every 1" of back fill. Dampen the soil before hand but not to mud. The difference will be that the order of the soil won't be the same as the surrounding soil, unless you can plug it out.
If you can put all the dirt on a cloth then back in the hole, you'll know it has been compacte

Good deal. The targets are there. If people can loose costume jewelry, they can loose the good stuff as well. Question is, which era did women/men wear the bling bling to the beach, and when will a storm come through to move enough sand to get to that era/depth?

Someone could copy and paste all the important tech data on to a new "Tarsacci Data Only" topic and leave all the accolades. Any accolades posted in the data page would be transferred over to the non-tech page. It'd have to be maintained on the regular. Who has the power and want,to do this?
Or, better idea, individual posters can copy and paste for themselves and make their pe

Moving an earth magnet (350#) through your soil will open your eyes to how many particles it attracts. . . .. When I do that in my soil it covers the entire magnet. I have to pinch it off the magnet. Ask yourself what this stuff does to the detectors capabilities.

In order to get the nickle on a stick to 14 inches at a 45 degree angle, do this. .. .At 45 degrees, we know the depth is 14" (one side) and the other side is 14", we can figure the hypotenuse of the triangle and mark the stick at that length and drive it to that mark. The mark on the stick will be 19.8 inches or 19-51/64 Inches. That will bring the depth to 14" if driven at 45 deg

If you have hot rocks, nails etc in your test bed, you need to know their position from the metal you are testing you unit on. If you aren't aware there is masking material in the soil or its location, you won't know why your detector is acting a certain way. Therefore your test will be inaccurate, a failure and you will not know it or why. Giving you false information about your $$ uni

I'm in PA and dug one up from a farm field a few years back. 1885 Half Eagle,6" deep. Funny thing, one of the fellows on here tried to convince me it was a counterfeit coin, don't remember who it was. I went to a jewelers and had it weighed, spot on spec. I was using a CZ-3d at the time. The women up there may also have been slouching on their sewing chores as down here. . . .coins
