Thanks Tom. Yes, nickels are one of the most difficult coins to properly ID to begin with..... then add depth, minerals, masking etc..... and the problem compounds. This is one of the reasons as to why it is a good idea to dig the mid-tones that are at the same depth/strata that the wheaties & silver are being recovered.

Thanks for the offer Mike. Would love to travel the country.... but I'm still in my 'working' years. Would love to detect for a profession.
Wingnut = Good compilation. As time permits...... I'll try to perform more compilations. Sometimes it's MUCH better when (through the eyes of someone else) compiles this info into a 'usable' source..... as my priorities/i

F-75 Peak Performance - Disc '6' & mandatory 'monotone' relic hunting justification
When the F-75 is placed on a Disc setting of '6' and 'monotone'; This set-up config allows (under MOST circumstances) the best iron see-thru ability..... in locating non-ferrous targets in areas that are loaded with ferrous (usually nails) environments. The older

Sounds 1880's or 1890's. There is a great Shotgun shell Head Stamp web-site. I'll see if I can find it. I know Glenn-Orlando knows of this site.

Dan,
My DVD is fully comprehensive (with full audio) utilizing a CZ-3D. If you can not afford to buy one..... by all means..... borrow one and save the cash.
For a back-up unit; I'd recommend a CZ-3D, CZ-70, F-70 or F-75. Save your time.... and stick with Minelab's and/or Fishers.

Yep. Expected results. This is exactly why I recommended you perform a head-to-head. Glad you utilized the real-world w/natural dirt settings. NOW YOU CONCLUSIVELY KNOW.

No such thing as a DD coil for the CZ. It's been attempted, but does not work.
As far as nickels.... a handful of new nickels of various recent dates...and that have never been corroded.... a CZ-3D should ID approx 20% - 35% of these new nickels as 'round-tab' with a mid-tone. The bulk of the rest of the nickels should ID as 'nickel' with the corresponding high-tone.

I'm glad that you have F-75 notes! You'll see just exactly bad your ground is... when you try the ML on those targets. It may be that your ground is only 'mild' dirt.
Once in a while, I'll detect Melbourne beach. It's only 1 hour from my abode.

Rodger,
Yes, there are many 'new style' pull-tabs that ID as a 'nickel' on ANY detector. As years have passed, I too have noticed different types/conductivity aluminum flip-tabs.

Bill,
I hope you have some dimes buried in a test-garden somewhere.......and know exactly how the F-75 responds to them in your dirt. THEN.... when the ML EX SE arrives, you will have a nearly exacting head-to-head comparison to gauge performance. Bad ground = Explorer trumps.

Ron,
Very good report. . , . , . The upper-end Minelab's do not have a Grnd Bal. It is common for the Minelab users to be MORE unfamiliar with G.B. .... as they do not have to deal with it. ALSO, the Minelabs do not have a 'auto' Grnd Bal either! The electronics employ a completely different set of ground compensation via the multi-freq & comparator circuitry. Different

If you go to 'Salt' mode (vs. 'Enhanced')..... the new zinc pennies will ID as "Zn Penny". Keep in mind, whilst in 'Salt' mode...... you run the risk of missing many 'older' desirable coins,,,,, reported in many threads on this forum. Also........... It is very common to find a lot of pennies whilst detecting (regardless of detector brand).

It's still a crap-shot. There are so many variations out there....that = Best advice; If possible, test one at a local dealer before you buy.

Holy Grail is right! And a big CONGRAT'S!!! Looks like it grades in around F-12.... maybe even F-14. It is interesting to see that the coin spent a few YEARS in circulation...... and NO ONE CARED enough to 'collect' it. Key date & rare coins are out there..... and were in regular circulation.,,,,, even when they were 'known' rarities. This coin is so rare.... that it

Overall..... the F-70 & F-75 would 'trump' the C$. The F-70 is a several-hundred-dollar cheaper F-75.... for all practical purposes. It is missing a few bells-n-whistles that the F-75 has, yet , the performance is nearly identical..... coil-for-coil. Pending budget, I'd recommend the F-75/F-70. They work the best in iron.... as far as unmasking capabilities.

A 1236-X2 has nearly the same depth as a CZ. It'll acquire a dime just beyond 10". It is fairly quiet in iron....... not too bad with 'falsing'. BUT.... I categorize it's iron unmasking abilities as: 'average'. And....... for some technical reasons...... the Tejon can 'unmask' slightly better (in iron)...... but may not have quite the overall depth of

Congrat's Brad! It is a indescribable 'high' to find such a good item. . . especially when you do not know what it is when it is in your hands. Then,,,,,,,,, as time progresses and you 'research' the item..... and it just keeps getting better & better.
Yes, bone dry dirt was a major attribute allowing you to see between (dry/deactivated) iron targets. Sounds l
