Ray,
Sounds like you got a good unit. Make SURE that it will ID a U.S. $5.00 Half-Eagle gold coin as a "High Tone" in the 'enhanced mode! Borrow a Half Eagle if you must. .... And also check to see if a Shield nickel (1866 - 1883) ALSO ID's as a High Tone in the Enhanced mode. VERY IMPORTANT!

Bill,
Yes; a quick 'whip' of the coil over a suspected bottle cap (or coin) is a true discriminating test for steel bottle caps. In my dirt.... bottle caps ID as silver dimes..... and even as high as silver quarters; but, my Conf scale is at half-scale (sometimes slightly less). A quick 'whip' of the coil over the bottle cap.... and the Conf scale drops to zero,,,,....

You are most certainly welcome. The CZ-3D should be your most "EMI" stable unit...... and if it does chatter,,,, conditions must be quite severe. Did you acquire a good used unit..... or a new one?
.....Hope you enjoy the DVD,,,, as I'm using a CZ-3D (prototype) in the DVD.

If you have not encountered EMI yet... that's great! If you want to hear it prematurely; swich to 'JE' mode, place Sens on '99' and Disc on '0'. If you STILL don't hear it..... you are in for some serious detecting opportunities!

I do not think the F-70 will 'trump' the flagship F-75....regardless of coil. And I'm also uncertain that a concentric coil for the F-75 would even work.... because of ID inaccuracies potential..... but I sure would be willing to tolerate it if the ID accuracy was simply a linear shift in ID.

I find the larger coil gives nearly identical adjacent target seperation ...... but goes deeper. And I have yet to 'clear' EMI with the smaller coil. It DOES fit into tighter/tougher hunting areas...... so it does have application.

You're welcome. ,,,,,,, And I'd like to see a round-concentric 10.5" coil for the F-75.....as I believe this config would match/exceed a 10.5" coil equipped CZ's depth capabilities; which, in turn,,,,, would lay the CZ to bed...... finally! When I am hunting fields that are fairly clear of trash.... and seeking to find DEEP targets, I still grab the 10.5" C

I think you are in for more surprises; especially when conditions will allow you to raise Sens above '90'..... drop Disc to '6' and ,,,,,,........ if you are strictly hunting for old coins,,,,,,...... placing Tones on '4' and digging the top 2 tones. And if you are relic hunting....... digging all tones except iron (or one tone....if you are in monotone). There will

Gosh...... If you are in the wet saltwater..... and are getting away with a Sens setting of '65 - 70'.... stick with it! Do not go to "below 30" settings. My Florida beaches, I must put Gnd Bal on absolute '00' minimum settings (there's 5 ticks/increments per numerical digit).... and can only hunt the damp sand. If coil 'touches' the water...... or i

Hmmmm...... strange conditions. Sounds like the shell casing is a 44-40 or 45 Long Colt...... but they are 'inserted primer' center-fire Ctg's. If the area is not 'producing'..... I'd be looking for a new site!

Somewhere in a fairly recent thread below...... I answered this. HELP! BUT...... in a nutshell:
Both PF & DE mode have nearly identical equiv ~ gain. I have yet to see any hair-splitting difference between the two. HOWEVER....... The JE mode is COMPLETELY different from any other mode. I NEVER recommend this mode to beginners...... and I nearly NEVER use it myself. It is TOO 'twitchy

Ron,
It almost sounds like you are in 'fill-dirt'..... that may have been brought in from some unknown location,,, so as to 'level' or stabilize the ground. Or..... yes...... it could be a place that has been pounded hard by other detectorists through the years,,, if it looks like a attractive place for detectorists to easily detect without being run off. Hard to believ

When Sens is set below '30'..... different circuitry/programming comes into play. It's primary function (in this config) is for wet-salt beach hunting.

Make SURE that you run your Sens above '30' !!!! I have yet to find a place (in open air or on the ground) where I can set my Sens to '29' (or lower); otherwise, the detector is VERY erratic/chattery/unstable. I still STRONGLY recommend you run your Disc on '6' and 'DE' or 'PF' mode. You can run your Sens from '30' ..... all the way up

You may be disappointed at first; THEN..... with a bit of time on the unit....,,,,,, you'll be surprised ...... as your brain will start to match the speed of the microprocessor. Start with Sens on '70'..... Disc on '6'.... '4'-tones and 'PF' mode. DO NOT try a higher Sens setting for a little while!!!

I'm the one to blame for the CZ-70 and the CZ-3D (and some others). Just remember; Dave Johnson is the one to blame for MOST of the units on planet Earth. Once again; my deepest fear is if Dave were to make noises about retiring his life-blood. (Read = OUR life-blood!).
HELP!!! I'm low on time.... and have posted most all of the other info requested in this thread,,,,, somewhere be

Exceeds human comprehension capabilities. If you can borrow one from a friend..... have him place it in AM mode.... AND ALSO IN ID MODE WITH Disc AT '0'.....,,,,,,,,, and you (or him) ...in a trashy area,,,... sweep the coil slowly; then VERY fast....,,,,,..... and see what you think.

Nothing wrong with your T-2. It's a entirely different unit/animal in the AM mode vs the ID mode. The ID readings in the AM mode are more accurate.....as far as dirt AND target composite are concerned; HOWEVER.... the ideal concept is to REMOVE the dirt mineralization from the equation and ID only the target. Coming out of AM mode.....into the ID mode..... and you achieve (and somewhat over-

Yes, if you have bad dirt ...... moisture will 'activate' this bad dirt. ALSO!!!!... If the area is heavily littered with iron (usually rusty nails)..... then the wet soil will ALSO 'activate' the iron. A BAD THING! Areas littered with iron..... you are better off detecting it in bone-dry conditions.

Glad this worked well for you..... and glad you found a lot more non-ferrous targets in that hunted out spot. Yes...... It will APPEAR that the F-75 is deeper in the ID mode....and more non-Fe targets can be found; but only because it'll ID deeper (in normal dirt conditions) vs. the all-metal mode. Keep up the good work!

First; In all-metal mode, you are FORCED to look at the VDI for EVERY target...... which may not be a bad thing if you are hunting an area that has VERY few targets. The all metal mode gives max depth capabilities of the F-75; PERIOD!
Second; The ID mode gives slightly less overall depth; HOWEVER, this mode will ID targets to greater depths. What I mean by this is; In the all-metal mode, the
