Im not that fussed to be honest, sure anything you put online these days gets shared around anyways, you would think manufacturers could produce a few of their own basic vids though.

Thanks Bill, it's a lovely spot, though I've only had a short hunt so far, got a few coins but not the age im hoping for.

My GM5 does well in this regard, and it gives screen ID for more than one item in a hole. When in 2 tone if i get a blended high/low tone with the screen showing iron and non ferrous then im digging, mostly it's the likes of buttons with a metal back etc but it's a neat feature.

One of the things i like about this hobby, you can find money with it lol
I've easily earned enough in silver and gold with my latest detector this year to cover the cost of it !

Cal, I've had the Racer2 and unfortunately it wouldn't cut it in this ground, it's just too mineralised for it to be effective especially with the small coil as it wouldn't get any depth.

Hi Khouse, it was early when i took the pics, the early morning mist was just lifting and everything was very quiet and still. The coin was a half silver sixpence, quite modern at 1930 compared to the site, i'll take some pics tomorrow in better light.

So i got a new local permission, it's a bit of a tragic tale ending with a terminal link to the US civil war. I had a scout around early this morning for a few pics and to see if there were any hot spots and quickly scooped a wee coin. Well i think I've found a site for my 5" coil, iron and rubbish everywhere, going to hit it early tomorrow, it's next door to a pre medieva

Thanks for the replys folks, i love soaking up the info!
I have been playing about with coils and freq so as im more informed of my setup to match ground conditions vs targets.
So on a hammered silver penny mentioned earlier this is where im at, only air tests but it's a guide.
5 inch coil best in 8khz
9 inch coil see's it about equal depth in 8 or 18khz
12x10 and bigger see

If one of the smarter guys on here could workout a formula for the best coil size + khz for particular size targets in say 3 types of soils, low, med, high mineralisation it would really add to the forums knowledge base.

Im on a bit of a rambling here about target size vs coil size vs freq, im not mega tech minded but get the basics ok.
Most info suggests Low khz for deep large targets, high hkz for small less deep.
My 5 inch coil in 8hkz see's a 20mm hammered silver( small as a dime but half the thickness/weight) deeper in the ground than in 18khz, from this i read with coil size being small at 5"

Is Minelab not putting out a new detector this year as well, and some new stuff from deus, if so it would probably make sense for other smaller manufacturers to hold off incase their new detector becomes old tech overnight?
A lightweight etrac that didn't null in iron, as fast as a deus, wireless etc just take my money now!

lol i don't know, when i get the ' this is an exciting signal' maybe the anticipation of it coupled with needing to wait on my slow ass pointer coming to life is just too much, and finding gold last week has not helped!

The headphone were no good at first in the UK, but they are susposed to be fixed now.
I never understood the pre order setup, that's the type of thing you see when a business is looking funding from say a bank, they show they have x amount or orders before fundings agreed, probably wrong though.

Sounds like a plan Junk!
I've walked behind a tractor before as it was ploughing and ran the coil allong the furrow, it gives me about another 10" in depth lol and ive found items so i know there's deep stuff there!

On some of the quieter pastures i was thinking of using a pi and marking the signals in the ground, then going over the signals a second time with a vlf and digging whatever signals the vlf couldn't hit?

Junk, i had been looking at the nexus mp and also the latest axa signum, but it's hard to find solid video evidence in english that confirms they can do as they say to be spending the money thay are asking?

Anyone running a detector that can get a clean hit beyond 10" in med/high mineralised ground in disc?
Reason i ask is that i can get to the average plough depth of 10" but i really want to find what's beneath that layer that has not been disturbed in centuries!
