Great trade for you Daniel. You can always pick up another Deus when you want.
Also being in TN, I too slow down when the woods grow thick, the snakes and yellow jackets take over my AO, and the temps/humidity soar. Gonna concentrate on some kayak fishing in the day with maybe some shooting after the sun goes down or a rain rolls thru. But I'll still be cruising the boards to learn what

One other tip, courtesy of the old times that use to gas the snake dens during roundups. Before going into old abandoned buildings, toss in a half oz or so of gasoline. The vapor displaces the oxygen for snakes and they exit the area immediately.

Replacing the dead plug on my Minelab Koss-30 headphones. I have black, white, and red wires.
I assume Red is right, but am not sure if the common is black or white. Anyone know?
Thanks for any help you can provide!
(yeah, I know. I'm gonna just experiment in a few minutes if no one knows for sure, but it never hurts to ask)

My yard sux and I am jealous of you all!
Built in the late 80's (that's NINETEEN 80s), and I have found exactly 4 pennies, only 1 of which was copper. I'm pretty sure that i'm the one that lost the copper too and that makes it that much worse.

I remember a handheld security wand at the airport in the late 70's, so the tech was there at that point. I think it was a Garrett and very outwardly similar to the ones they use today. The reason I remember it was that I was home from college and some dumbazt friend of a friend of mine had stolen it. They were so unique and expensive at that point, the moron decided he couldn't even se

I dont think there's a "best detector" for the most part. Too much variation in the substrate you are hunting in to make that call.
fwiw, I've been very happy with the depth I get with my CTX + 17" coil.

Agree 100%. I've only spot-read this thread to see what all the posting was about. Lets give this a rest and get back to the hard core stuff.

I get on the net to:
1) learn
2) be entertained
I come here to:
1) learn
2) share what little I know in the spirit of giving back to the hobby. i feel a debt to those that so graciously helped me when I was getting back into it.

Thanks for the welcome folks.
pm = precious metal
JF, I think you nailed it. my (organic) software must have a glitch. or 3.
Minelab fanboy? yeah, guilty as charged. But I certainly don't take anything away from any other detectors. everything has its place in the hobby imo (except junk). several hunt buds use ATPs and there's even a Whites DFX in the mix too- I think the

All of these methods mentioned in this thread are valid factors in the depth that coins/treasure are found at. Always remember too that even undisturbed soils vary greatly, not only from region to region, but even within a small lot sometimes. The underlying geological and geomorphological history can produce quite different soils. Pay close attention to the soil profile(depths and thicknesses of

The best mineral museum I have been in outside of the Smithsonian is the A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum at Michigan Tech in Houghton, Michigan. Unfortunately, they seem to charge admission now.
I've never seen them, but my wife still raves about some of the museums in Chicago.
And a big +1 on those Cody, WY museums.

Closest that I've found to a piggy bank is a fabric coin purse (fairly disintegrated with about $2 in it) and a nylon ladies purse absolutely STUFFED with gift, reward, and credit cards. Only reason I found the later (>1' depth, 4' of water about 40yds from the low tide line) were the 2 house keys inside it. I was able to return it to the lady who lost it less about 10 days befo

ime, the best place to buy junk silver is at the REGIONAL coin shows. the local ones are always overpriced, at least around here. And don't get me started on coin shops and pawn stores.
still, investing any significant amount in silver is going to result in a lot of volume and weight. if you are seriously looking at it from an investment standpoint, I'd tend to go with gold coins ins

New forum member here- cant believe I haven't stumbled into you guys before now. Looking forward to all the previous threads I need to read. So much knowledge to acquire, so little time.
A bit about me:
-hunted since the 70's, tho with crappy machines back then
-seriously hunted in the last few years, logging hundreds of hrs/yr. first with an old Whites Coinmaster, then Minelabs

With the caveat that I have MD'ed since the 70's, but have only done so seriously for the past few years, my Safari seems to lock onto any hint of silver and let me know about it in no uncertain terms- even better than my CTX. Both seem to get 9" dimes on edge without a problem, but the Safari is much better at identifying exactly what it is.
