I would answer that by saying that the tech evolves faster than we can understand how to use it. This is something I've tried to address in the book by giving a run down on "fast digital," "multi frequency" and "modulation." With out this information the Legend is harder to learn. cjc

I'm seeing a video from Calabash saying that such and such upgrades have made my book "outdated and worthless."
My response is this: To begin with, consider the source--here's a guy who tests 15" coils on full sensitivity. A month ago he was saying that the Legend itself was pretty much worthless compared to the D2 until a video was posted showing that its actually the

This book is about:
-how basic skills can help you to get the most from the Legend's amazing performance.
-understanding fast digital and multifrequency detectors.
-understanding and using the v.1.80 Upgrade's key performance features.
-signal balancing and performance.
-Legend deep silver and dense iron methods.

Big coil on the Excal--probably turned up too high --worst mistake you can make. NOX FE way down--also not optimal for salt conditions--as shown in what hapens when the wave comes in--a skewed test overall. More of a signal balancing demo than anything...

Clive’s book is a must for users of the Equinox. I highly recommend reading this book. Beginners to advanced users will find valuable information in this latest book.

what Clive has to say about the settings and how they interact with each other and with targets should help take your game to a higher level.

These are the simple basic skills that no one bothers with now--thinking that they can run before walking. When you begin to look for "sets" of target characteristics instead of thinking that there is some audio subtly to listen for these spikes are easy to discern. People think that "tech" is going to do it all for them when the opposite is try--more basic skills are needed

I think that a faster rec speed would be more suitable to let the machine process the bigger chunk of ground. as you've said this coil is a case in point for signal balancing--waiting for one too.

the sense I get is that these highly processed signal detectors (CTX, NOX) are very hard to make a big coil for it adds too much to the existing workload. Never have been able to get decent signal to noise with either machine's big coil in salt or fresh. cjc

A buddy of mine who really knows his machines quite likes the GM. I looked at it and saw that it has a very unique display that gives you a good idea as to the iron content of a target. Looks like a great relic / pasture machine. Would love to get one. cjc

Not many of these left in operation--the gaskets are hard to replace. I have one it had to be put into a BHID case. Superb performing pulse--very smooth and great gold optimization. Closest you will get now is the CS4PI sold by CScope in the UK. Runs a bit higher (uSc) but also very deep, and good iron ID from the tone. One of these would be easy to waterproof in a different case. cjc

But in a lot of situations you can be pretty accurate with a pulse. Its all judgement calls as to the effort / potential ratio. The DF is one of the best for this--really gives you a lot of information on your targets. Where you have 99.9 spikes though--just not worth it. cjc

It's pretty rare that you're going to see a high performance machine that does not have some trade-offs. The AQ is no exception. It's upside far outweighs any of these "glitches". I was fortunate enough to be given the chance to give this machine a try and knew that it was in development. Given this I'm seeing a deep pulse machine that has the added feature of reje

I find it to be the deepest machine I've used inland and also the best in iron. Would love to try the Tarsacci hearing good things but not fully w/p kind of stops me from getting one.
