That's an outstanding find. I'd love to put together a complete set of dug Mercury dimes, but, am only about a third of the way there at present.

I rooted through another closet and found some more good FBS items that I'd like to sell. I've updated the list in the original post.

I've never encountered a rattlesnake while detecting, but, encountered quite a few while out shooting guns in the wilderness when I was young. The small ones are usually the most aggressive. Out of six or eight close encounters, I was only buzzed by a small one. Another small one, a Mojave green, went out of its way to come after me. One shot from a .22 usually causes them to ball up. S

This Minelab Explorer 2 works great. I use it as a backup machine for my Etrac. Unfortunately, a previous owner punctured the screen shield with his digging tool years ago. I cleanly cut away the damaged portion of the screen shield. There is a small area of dead pixels on the screen as shown in the second photo; however, this has no effect whatsoever on the function of the machine.

I know that a couple of you guys have owned them. What do you think of it as an introductory PI machine, that is, somebody's first ever PI machine? The cost seems very reasonable.
Seems that if a beginner likes this machine it would be easy to switch off to an ATX at a later date. If a person is willing to dig junk, can the Recon be used effectively on land to find deep coins in hunted

I don't have enough years of experience to understand what you're saying. If a person hunts with an open screen on a CTX, Etrac, or Explorer, how is that different from the all metal mode you want?

Both companies claim to manufacture in this country. Unless you have some inside information, I believe you are mistaken.

Last October, I managed to crack the blade of my Lesche digger. The crack started at the serration nearest the handle, an obvious stress concentration point. The factory sent me a free warranty replacement. I presumed breaking a Lesche was a once in a lifetime fluke; however, the nine-month-old-replacement digger now shows a crack in the exact same location. The factory is willing to replace

I almost never use headphones and only use a small hand digger. I put my finds and trash in the pockets of my cargo shorts. My pinpointer sits in my back pocket, and I carry my digger in the hand opposite my detector. I don't have a belt full of gear.

Whenever somebody sees me detecting and asks what I've found, I usually say, "Nothing good today."
True Story: A couple of Novembers ago I was detecting in my favorite park. I dug up a metal tag that said, "Mr. X metal detected here in 2014." I was annoyed and fascinated at the same time.
When I got home, I googled the name on the tag. It turned out to be a Yout

Thank you for the honest answer. I'll be keeping my Etrac.

The depth gauge, if you can even call it that, on the Deus is a joke. I'm normally interested in deep targets, and much prefer the depth gauge on my Etrac.

The lack of depth is exactly why I sold my XP Deus after less than a month and went back to using my Etrac. I'd love to find a lighter machine than the Etrac, but, am not willing to give up the depth.

In my limited experience with the Deus (sold it after less than a month), lowering the discrimination led to crown style bottle caps giving good signals.

I'm only looking to discriminate out iron; so, discrimination is not useless just because non-ferrous targets don't always give textbook numbers at depth. If a deep silver dime gives a wheat cent signal, I'm still going to dig it. Deep nickels often give bouncy or unstable numbers. It may not be a nickel, and might even be gold; but, discrimination lets me know that it's de

$700 is about as low as Etrac prices go. I sold a fairly rough Etrac for $750 about six months ago.
$500 to $600 is Explorer II or Explorer SE money.

Ok, sorry for the misunderstanding. Any Mercury dime is a fun find though. I'd guess that coin was dropped in the late 1950s or early 1960s.

I enjoy Youtube metal detecting videos, especially the basketball trick shot guy's channel. He seems like a nice and responsible young guy. I see nothing about him that would warrant criticism.
If it weren't for Youtube videos, I never would have started metal detecting. I saw some videos years ago by random chance and became intrigued enough to buy a machine. I also became a bet
