I've slowly switched from 5 to 50 tones. One advantage is target ID. A coin will generally have a sharp clean "round" tone all the way through a 360 turn. A crushed aluminum can that audibly rings up in the same range will be distorted when the detector hits some of the different facets. You will hear a "warble", or slight change in tones as you do a 360. With 5 tones, bo

Definitely hasn't been updated in a couple of years. Still lists Garrett CEO as Mrs Garrett. Steve Novakovich is the new CEO. I would love to see the afternox numbers!

Just remembered they have a paywall for non members. You only get a few views. Garret has the security business that helps their bottom end. Minelab has military contracts. Fisher includes Teknetics and Bounty Hunter/First Texas. Whites seems like the low hanging fruit.
Garrett 51.7M
Minelab 44.2M
Fisher 36.2M
Whites 16.9M

Not sure how accurate it is since they are a private company and don't have to report their financial info. They have Whites listed in CA, and their website says OR. https://www.owler.com/company/garrett https://www.owler.com/company/whiteselectronicsmetaldetectors

Saw the same thing with the Garrett carrot in youtube videos. Have to use freq shift on the Simplex to try and make it behave with most pinpointers.

That would be interesting. I had noticed the Vanquish had gone very "quite" all of a sudden. They would have to redesign/rethink the battery cover. Something similar to the Garrett AT series. It already has the screw on connector. I will be very surprised if they do.

If the 540 gets decent depth I will buy the pro pack for a second/backup detector. I love the multi IQ tech. My old Teknetics Delta 4000 is getting pretty tired. The Nox needs a new little buddy. It would be disappointing if they got the same depth as the Ace series they are gunning for. I don't understand the hoopla about them not being waterproof. I'm not going to buy an entry level &

Tend to leave mine at zero most of the time. Sometimes will go up to 2 if I'm in a hurry. Too much of a chance to discriminate out good targets next to iron. If I get into an iron infested patch, I just turn down the sensitivity to knock out most of the falsing. You won't get a lot of depth with iron saturated ground anyway. I can hunt square nail infested colonial sites with zero iron

For me it is recovery/separation speed and coil size. Hunting with the Deus or Nox I can turn the recovery speed up to help get in between the iron signals better. At some point the iron saturation level beats the current detecting technology and it becomes an impossible situation. That is the point that it becomes necessary to just dig it up and sift through it.

Same here. Mine was 4001 model. "Tripped" over and old iron stirrup about 2'' down, and been hooked ever since. I didn't even know what discrimination was that first hunt.

Does anyone know of a good instructional video explaining the Minelab sounds? Waiting for my Equinox to arrive (upgrading from AT Pro). I always noticed the Minelab machines "made funny sounds", but didn't realize they were actually telling you anything. Not many sound nuances to learn from the AT Pro.

Looks like a waterproof Impact. Can't detect all day in deep mode. Depth will be equal to Equinox in normal mode. I do wish you could temporarily turn up the power on the Equinox.

I wonder if it has new tech, or just a mix of current tech. Deep mode is only 1-2 inches deeper than the Equinox. Normal mode would be about equal but without the benefit of multi freq.

The manual says the center of the coil is the pinpoint line. The only other mention is when a target is close to the coil it can produce three signals. I just ordered mine. Maybe Calabash can test this out for us

Ran across this video while looking for Equinox tests. Heard several complaints about the pinpointing being off and finding coins in the side of plugs. This might have something to do with it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-VXVu5f_pk

Wish they had a Linux version, but the user base is too small to acknowledge. I have to keep a version of Windows installed in Virtualbox for my Deus updates.

They have sued Whites and XP over wireless data transfer patent. Whites lost and XP settled out of court. They can't sue Minelab because ML patented the tech before XP/Whites
