The more I read the more I feel this is a damp sand and wash detector. That's a mighty big coil for chest deep work. Battery run time will certainly shorten after a certain amount of time. Also seems it will be nose heavy on the damp sand. I don't wish to dig 2' deep tent stakes either so I'm going to stick with my MDT for awhile untill Joe gives me a report! May also be able

Dang Joe, you would think they would at least use a pic of a new machine instead of that same old tired LE JAG photo. Same old sand and grit around the case and threshold knob as well as others. Something ain't right here. Hope your doing fine and Merry Christmas.

I have tried many methods of salt balance. One as you said digging a hole. Two bobbing coil in over 18" of water so the coil only sees water not water and minerals in sand. I also have left salt at 27 and ground balanced over the wet sand. I have turned salt offand GB over wet sand as well. I have used GB over dry sand and then used the salt balance with techniques mentioned above. I mostly

Hi Dew, I must say I respectfully disagree. Once you learn how to use the wash, coil size is not an issue. I use the CTX in the wash with an 11" coil no problem. I also.use a Ultimate 13 in the wash no problem. Ground balance and salt balance should take care of the chattiness. I would bet money if they offered one you would buy it. Again I respect your comments and enjoy reading your post.

Dew, your earlier comment about a possible 11" round coil is one I would like to comment on. I don't post much but I have spoken to Tom about a larger round DD coil. Not necessarily for more depth but for coverage in the wash and damp sand. I would like to see a 12" coil or even a 13". The stock coil works well in waist and chest deep water but in my opinion a larger coil is n

Hi Tom, I agree that the gains from a circular coil with the same parameters of the oval coil would be little but the extra 15 sq. inches of coverage may not sound like much but for me it would be worth the price of a 12" circular DD coil. I wish you would reconsider. JMHO

I have used the MDT for seven months now and the oval coil is fine for the water. I do wish a round 12 or 13 inch DD coil was available for the wash, damp sand and dry. I am a salt water hunter primarily. This may apply to dirt also?

Pasttom, what threshold and sensitivity for 18 kHz ? I would prefer to run 18 but it is awfully chatty here. To calm it down to be useable -1 / 6 sensitivity here.

Dew you certainly are running it hot! My conservative setting is -1 / 7. My hot is 0 / 8. Anymore than that and it is unusable. Black sand on quiets the detector somewhat but I worry now of possible loss of depth. I think you are correct in saying the box under water quiets the machine also. You mention Joe who I can tell you prefers a under over shaft for that very reason. The Excal. runs quiete

I to like this machine and as soon as the water warms a bit more I will venture into the bay. Awkward period for me now. To hot for wetsuit, to cold without. I will spend this summer with the Tarsacci to get the feel for it. When will we find out if there is a second coil out there floating around. I am checking the parameters of this coil to see if I can duplicate it with a round 10”.

Tom, since people are giving their opinions I will voice mine. I for the most part am satisfied with the detector. The arrow buttons are a bit awkward when salinity balancing for me. The location. If I were left handed they would be perfect. Maybe switching with the GB button would make it easier on my thumb. My only other issue is the battery compartment screw cap and battery connection. The fin

My thoughts are, after watching the first video, unless a lot changes, I have made the correct decision for me by purchasing the Tarsacci. I am glad I got to see that video.
