Keith, I don't know the answer... but if you have it set in auto ground tracking and your sweep speed is a little slow maybe it is ground balancing to the hot rock itself (nulls it out) and it "sees" the good target because of the bigger difference in the field and id's it correctly. JT, I can't really answer your question....but this might help. I spent a weekend hunting with a buddy who has a minelab se and I had a tesoro eldorado and there was not single target that he could hear that the tesoro could not detect and vice versa. Well having my little girl be the coin holder I tested every switch, knob setting, auto-tune and battery checker and now can't get it to mess up. In all metal I also gently moved the cable around and it performed fine. Now ...before i got started I took off the coil connetor aand reconnected it....but this time turned it a little tighter. First off I had brand new batteries in it. Using the detector this evening it stopped giving me an audio response even when waving a quarter in front of it. I wondered if my headphones were bad so I unplugged them and still no response from the speaker with volume maxed out. After turning it on and off twice it started working again. Here in Ohio I located where the Shawnee town was located. The farmer let me walk his land and told me that 15 years earlier some metal detectorists pulled what looked like old rifle barrels and gun parts out of the field. I read Tom's great cz-3d guide, but this question is for you guys who have used the cz-3d out in the field and how it recognizes gold. Generally do gold rings sound with the high tone? What about gold jewelry such as a necklace.
