I, too, appreciate the guy's efforts as well. I definitely learn from their pics and vids. To be frank: I seriously doubt that I would've even got into metal detecting...in the capacity that I do....without all of the reports and pics and vids. They are VERY MUCH appreciated by me. I just clicked onto the forum and found this thread. And when guys have went to the effort to make th

Enjoyed reading that, Daniel. I am also not as good with my aim (whilst using my WW2 trenching tool) as Keith is. So I second the fact that Keith is the trenching tool master! Anyway, enjoyable read and it strengthens my resolve to have an MX Sport. If I dig half as many bullets as you dug, I always consider it a success. Well done.

Wow, this does not do our hobby any good. I love history. I love reading about it and then receiving written permission to detect in that area. One of these days, getting caught with a freaking Minie Ball will have legal repercussions. BUT...
I was (I was amazed) given permission by a member of the board of directors of our local Museum, which is primarily focused on the Civil War in the area

Wow! More awesome Confederate buttons!!!! Very well done. I may very well have to get me a MX Sport! I haven't dug very many buttons this year but I have dug the heck out of some bullets and other stuff. Many of the bullets having been fired. Possible skirmish area unless the troops were emptying their rifles due to fear of moisture......misfire. I should be digging at least a few more bu

One of the campsites that I hunt is in a "no-till" field. You know, where they chemically kill the weeds and so forth. All the buttons that I dig out of that field are in pieces or are coming to pieces!!!! Not like buttons found in the nearby woods that are whole and intact with a nice shank sticking out!!!
I am no farmer, but it seems like they would like to turn the field with a

Daniel. great finds!!! Love those buttons. Heck, love it all. The gun shop up the road has a new Whites MX Sport for sale. I felt of it......it felt great. The price wasn't bad either. But it had a round coil. I notice in the pic an elliptical coil. Did you try the round? Anyway, back to those Confederate buttons. Crap, I have only found one Confederate button and you seem to be in a nes

Yes, there is about a year and a quarter left on it (if the warranty is 2 yrs). I will look through my emails and see when I bought it. I purchased it brand new. I'm going to bed and will resume this project tomorrow. Have a good nite. kevin
Having slept on it, I have decided not to sell the coil. I was having money problems and fortune siled upon me today. I am VERY sorry for the inco

I will upload some pics in the morning. The coil is fully functional. The only wear marks should be on the bottom of the coil cover but it's in the other room and I'm in a hurry. Pics are coming.......maybe tonite instead of tomorrow.

Horace Dimick sold alot of his rifles to the 66th Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment. They were also called the "Western Sharpshooters" if my internet research is accurate. This bullet was produced in several calibers. Mine is for a 44 cal gun. I also read that there were Dimick Revolvers. This bullet is very close to the profile of todays bullets!!! I found this bullet in Corinth M

I am compelled to comment on this thread. I want to second every kind word that has been spoken about Keith. He has helped me during my metal detecting learning curve by talking to him, PMing him, and by his vids. He has been immensely helpful in identifying bizarre Civil War relics for me. And never once did he seem aggravated or irritated in any way. I consider him as my friend. And am proud

I appreciate the kind words, guys. I also appreciate the correct way to spell 'tompion'. On the day that I found it, I rushed over to my huntin buddy and asked what this green thing is. In the heat of the moment I thought that he said: "Great find!!! That's a Tonkin!" Or, at least that's how my ears registered it. LOL!!!!!! Anyway, thanks for the great words.

So when I find a few, I'm proud of them and want to show them off. Immature and childish? Guilty as charged. Check out the carved heart pendant thingy. And my canister shot. All finds made with my Deus with 11 inch coil. There is also a very thin silver ring in the mix. That sucker was 8 inches deep! I was exclusively hunting old dirt piles made when trees fall over the years. Someti

Okay, I will sell the Makro Racer with 10x5.5 inch coil for $350 and add the 5 inch coil for an additional $50. We'll forget about the super-big coil for now. That is essentially a Racer pro pack for $400. I will even through in the battery charger and the t-shirt and cap in the deal.

Wow, no resale value. I've sold Teknetics G2's with just one coil a lot faster. I was really thinking that this would be an awesome deal. I gave just under $800 for the Racer Pro Pack when it first became available. Although I despise the hassle, I'll see how I do on Ebay or Metal Detector Classifieds. This is a deep. fully functional metal detector with a brand new 10 x 5.5 i

Ozzie, I bought an XP Deus a few months back and fell back in love with the Deus. (this Deus is about my fifth one! lol...I am totally O.C.D.) I just don't have enough places to hunt to warrant having two detectors. By the way, the price has dropped to $600 shipped. This is a three coil Pro Pack. That large coil alone cost well over 200 bux. (Ozzie, I am not pointing all of this at you

Yes, great info. I frequently noticed that the clamp for the lower rod has become wiggly. It tightens up and is not a problem when it is gripping the lower pole. I just ordered and received an 11 inch coil and lower rod assembly. The lower rod (than came with the 11 inch coil) fits looser in the upper rod than the lower rod that came with my Deus. It is still fully functional. Just some mi

I'm not a fanboy, but if there is metal under the coil of my Deus, it detects it. Had really good success with mine this year. I'm just now getting used to the 3.2 program.

Two things that I need to go ahead and get said: One: The Racer has a new control box/upper arm assembly that I had to pay for (because I ruined my old one by falling in a creek with it) and Two: I have used the new unit about 7 times and I ran my gritty glove across the face plate so the face plate doesn't look all brand new. Still fully functional and just as easy to read as a brand new o

Thanks for the replies! My first day.....I found one POSSIBLE Civil War 32 cal ball (buck and ball loads). I also lost (or rather, left it at a plug) my Lesche knife. That's par for the course for me. Going back today and trying a different.......quadrant? lol
I bought a used F75 (the kind without the Boost Process) and that sucker is deep. I hunted in JE mode yesterday (at another, re

I am heading to a new permission that I acquired that overlooks the river. I don't wanna give away too much about it's location but the thrill and potential of getting to detect a new and potentially great spot is almost as thrilling as making a good find. As soon as my family obligations are met, I am heading over there and swing a coil. I have a new (old style) F-75 (not the kind
