Oh, the dreaded shotgun bases and the .22 hulls. All of my sites are infused with them!!! Still, I see a few good looking brass pieces in there. Good hunt.

The lead piece, that looks kind of like a banner, and that has IOWA written on it, is an interesting piece. My first Calvary button (with some gilting and some signs of pesticides eating it up. A button back. And a smaller, vest-sized, general service button. A 54 cal Minie bullet. And two small pieces of brass that I am always finding here (and at other campsites) that look like percussion

I appreciate it guys. I am going to try your suggestions today, I have a question: I have read the manual, but would like to hear some practical info: What function does the STABILIZER perform??? Should I just ignore it and run it in Facory Preset? Thanks, guys. As I learn this new piece of technology (new to me, anyway) I sure appreciate the fact that I can come here and get some help. As

I couldn't get an answer on the GPX Classroom Section on the other forum. After I perform a noise cancel and ground balance. I can hold my coil in the air and have a perfectly smooth threshold. And when I lower it and start to slowly swing, the threshold begans to be slightly erratic. I re-ground balance (Fixed Mode and using the button on the handle) and the threshold contiues to be sligh

Thanks Daniel. Yes, that is useful. I took my unit out yesterday using Sharp timings along with a program that I found. I hunted with my buddy who has an F75SE, He found twice the stuff I did and I was twice as tired as him. I did find a scabbard tip (flattened) at 4 inches. And two round balls (.69 cal) at around 4 inches. I was really expecting this certain pine forest to 'light up

I went hunting today with the GPX. I had my Iron Reject at 6. Approximately 85 % of my targets had that 'blanking' done to them. I went ahead and dug one and it was a tiny piece of a nail.
Should I start out with SHARP timings or should I stick to NORMAL? What advantage does SHARP timings give? Extra Sensitive? Are these advanced settings that I should try later after becoming

Thanks guys!!!! I appreciate the feedback. You won't believe how much the wood has already shrunken. Last night, I washed it with warm water and a toothbrush very thoroughly. I then applied a coat of Royal London Oil. It really made some grain POP out! This stuff really soaks into the wood. I had to do something fast.....before the wood just.....went away. lol Again, thank you guys for

Yes, the price is what kept me from buying one for a while. I have wanted a PI detector for a couple of years now. Always waiting for the r

There's an idea. I think that I have a whole can of boiled Linseed Oil in my cupboard in my shop. Refinished a couple of nice Walnut gunstocks with it. Drying time is kinda lengthy, but still a good product. Thanks. kevin

Daniel, will the GPX detetcors retain my settings or will I need to reset on each trip?? I know that the toggle switches will stay the same but will the digital settings (I want to use Sharp timing on my first time out) stay where I set them after I power off and then power on? It won't irritate me to reset the machine as I have a cheat sheet that I will carry with me in my front pocket unt

If the wood on this fork or spoon, found in a CW campsite, begins to dry.....I feel that it will be ruined. Does any forum member know how to preserve the wood on this relic? I'd surely appreciate any advice on this. Thank you
I really don't know how it could have survived this long!!!! I'm starting to become very concerned that the wood will dry and curl. I am open to any s

(questions)I just HAVE to say something about my GPX 4500. I just went outdoors for the first time and turned it on. I performed the noise cancel, which took about a minute. I then ground balanced (set to 'fixed' and using the button on the handle) and proceeded towards my buried bullets. Each bullet gave a very wonderful waver of the threshold. I set the Iron Discrim. to '10

Hey Keith, it is worth mentioning that my analog battery charger has these 3 settings: "6volts-6 amps"........"12 volt 2 amps"......"12 volts 6 amps"
I could install an inline circuit breaker is I knew where to look. Where would I find such an item?? I mean.....like, here in town.

About 8 hours. I would have kept it in longer but it had quit bubbling for some reason. I am doing a cannon-ball frag right now and I started with fresh water, baking soda (arm and hammer) and I'm using an old airgun spring as the sacrificial

It was deep in the backyard of an old home. Part of a car? A wagon or horse drawn buggy? It looks like it was meant to spin in some fashion. Hub cap? It's only three inches across. I am suspicious of it because it was found in a Union Calvary camp but there was also an old home there, as evidenced by all of the square nails and red brick bits. If anyone can shed any light on this pie

Well, my GPX is on it's way. I have already started my learning curve. I know that this is asking alot.....and I don't take it for granted....but is there a way to set the machine that is more conducive for relics like bullets, buttons, knapsak hooks, etc.
I am going to have to make an elaborate test garden to hear what the GPX sound like when the loop passes over an old square na
