Kevin I can relate, I have the F5 also(stock coil), I mostly use it at parks and newer homesites. CZ3D comes out for older sites, the Vaguero is another option for me at the older sites. CZ and Vaq are both deep hitters. Your posts are getting me interested in that big DD for the F5.

My Tesoro Vaquero will hit a clad dime at or better than 10" w/stock 9x8 coil in soil, sens at max, but not in boost . I have pretty mild dirt here(coastal Texas). You only get 1 tone, but it does have an adj. GB. Maybe you could find one to test if you can look past the single tone.

I have a chance to pick up a clean lightly used 7A Pro, now I already have a nice Tom tuned 3D, would I be wasting my money by pretty much duplicating what I already have? Then again I'd love to compare. Does the 7A Pro have a threshold adjustment? What say you, users of both.

Interesting post guys, I have suffered with this problem on my F5 and have wondered why the control box has no shielding. Doesn't make sense to me to have the coil cable shielded(which is grounded at the box) and then the circuit board gets no shielding. I wonder if this fix going to carry over to the new F5's and other Fisher/Tech machines that suffer from EMI interference?

I see a machine in the future that alerts you through tones or VDI of a target. After you pinpoint it, you pull a trigger, the MD transmit is interrupted and a minature GPR kicks in and you get a digital image on a screen with enough resolution so you can tell the difference between a coin, tab or a gold ring. Screen will also offer overlays of target depth, size and other selectable data.

You are correct dan, They have the technology to get deep. I have dug many coins at 8 -10 inches. my best is a clad dime at almost 11". Not to menti

Don't get discouraged, it took me a few months to find a 3D, I just stopped into a local detector shop to kill some time waiting for an airport pickup one day. I walked in, saw it hanging on the consignment rack, didn't even realize it was a 1021 at first, and nailed it. Used it for a month or so and sent it to Tom to do his magic(well worth the money and very quick turn around)., deep

I would think coins never stop sinking until they hit a solid rock layer or encounter an obstacle, but the sink rate should vary(and probably does) as it passes into different dirt strata due to density variances. Does the pressure(side load) on a deep coin have an effect on its sink rate? Also as depth increases you have less expansion and contraction of the soil from temperature and moisture c

My first pair of light weight phones were Radio shack and at 6+ years, they are still working, heavy cord and inline vol control, just wish I could get new ear pads. they are N/A. Last year when I decided to get a new set, I couldn't find any good light weight headphones so I went a different route and ended up with a GE headset I got at Office Depot(about $35), I unscrewed the the mic. and

This was the case over about a 2 acre site. Dan first thing I did was ck for EMI source, none that was close enough to present a problem. Tom, when you state no GB required, are you saying to just set it at the preset #5? I'm usually anywhere from 4-7 on the GB in my soil most times,

Had a GB issue that I have never encountered before with the 3D. I was using the Fisher 10.5 coil and had to adjust the GB all the way to 10. Still, at this point of adjustment I could not hear the threshold increase when lifting the coil. At the 10 position it had just gotten to the point where there was no increase in threshold when lowering the coil, I went with this setup since this was the

Outstanding find and the condition looks great. It's things like this that make me want to add the AT to my quiver especially for the iron littered site.

Can someone here give a quick rundown on the difference between the GB models. There are several: original GB, GB2, newGB, GBpro, GBdp. Thanks, Beach

I use mine for open ground and beaches only, target seperation falls off quite a bit compared to the 8". Too much target info coming through(for my brain) when using it in iron . While it is heavier than the stock coil, it is not enough to keep me from using it when conditions dictate. I really don't have enough experience with it too say it's deeper than the 8", but it is at

Glad to see your reference to Tesoro here, I thought I was one of the few here that own one. I agree with you completely, Tesoro needs a multi tone machine that has some serious depth. While the Golden uMax is a fun coin shooter for parks, newer homesites, etc. its lack of depth(seems to max out at 6-7" is a big short coming for relics and older sites. I used one for 2 years and while I enjo

You need something with a heavy enough sole to push the scoop in and protect from sharp objects, don't think the stocking foot will work well.. Dive boots if the water is cold or river shoes(or similiar) in warm water.

It's worth a try, but 5 years is a long time with a few hurricanes thrown in. If it hasn't moved your biggest obstacle will probably be depth, unless you have hardpan that is not too deep. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

We suffer from a high sink rate here on Texas beaches. Getting to the beach asap after a big beach day is important, not just because you want first shot at it but also before those targets sink. Takes a heavy current or good storm to strip(move) enough sand to expose those targets.

I use this set up on a single tone detector(vaquero) at an old plantation site. Just set the disc at about 1-2:00 postion and dig all good hits. Any ferrous target much bigger than a nail will stay audiable with the coil raised off the ground and is a no dig. On occassion a bent nail or small broken piece of smithed iron will fool me though.
