Dan you need to relocate to Fla. or Texas or points between. I just had the wettest drive from Houston to Tampa and back to houston, probably 4-6"of rain each way. Grass is almost a foot tall in my front yard, to wet to mow for 10 days now, the rabbits are liking it.

Per this quote from Dan "We have to realize compared to hunting or fishing or even golfing we are few in comparison. " If the MD industry had as much money flowing into as these sports/hobbies, we might see a more rapid advance of technology, R & D costs money . You might even see a drop in pricing due to the increase in competition.

I'm always amazed to see how many targets are still in the ground when I go back over an area at 90 degrees to the first passes. Some targets can be attributed to your saying "it only takes an Inch" and the coil didn't quite get over it or some targets might be on edge and didn't sound off since they were inline with the sweep direction the first time. Heck I've even

Moved into a new house about 12 yrs ago, when we cleaned out the attic of the old place I could not locate the shoe box with my money collection. I had stashed(hidden) it years earlier and that was many beers ago. Well I decided to get a metal detector instead of lifting up all that insulation and decking,so I bought an Ace 250. Never did locate the collection and firmly believe my old roommate g

My nickel count is defintely up there thanks to my CZ3D and Tom's tune up. One other machine that was great on nickels(Jefferson) for me was the Tesoro Golden, if you set up the notch correctly it will sniff them out..

Dug a clad dime at better than 10" (nice soft repeatable signal) using a Vaquero with the stock coil. Sens @ 9 and thres @ 2 oclock position. Now that I have a CZ, I'm looking for that 12" dime.

Tom, I appreciate that side business, I have a sweet, accurate, CZ3D because of it, I'm glad you stepped up to the plate. Thanks for posting the complete link, NEBeachcomber.

Saw this on another forum. Hope its ok to post here.
The 3D is virtually the same thing as the 5, except there's a minor difference in how the nonferrous categories are scaled. Someone else here can probably explain it better than I can.
I left Fisher in '95 because I could see it was headed downhill with no plan to fix it. When I returned to take a look at the place before we

In addition to sizing the target another good test for a can is to raise the coil off the ground, if you still get a good solid signal at 10-12 plus inches or more it is most likely trash or big iron. If I'm digging relics I might still dig the target.

Dug a clad dime(1984) at 10.5". Funny thing though, about an hour later I dug a 1936 dime less than 50 feet away, same soil, at 3". The deep one was below mowed turf, the old one was in a non mowed area. I've always wondered if the vibration from the mowers contributed to the sink rate??

I quess I'm kinesthetic, I really like my Pro Pointer's vibration more than the audio signal. I've always been telekinesthetic as far as learning. I never really thought about it much, till my wife (she is a teacher) pointed it out to me.

Besides sink rate, your post brings up another important aspect to hunting that you touched on. When you hunt an area, you need to have researched it and when you finally arrive on site, you need to be observent as per what might have gone on there over the years. Location of buildings, old wells, ball fields, roads, etc. all of these things require soil grading and or fill dirt to be moved or br

Thanks for the tips guys. Dan I ran the sens just under 5 as much as I could, but had to reduce it in most areas due to the iron chatter. Vol and sens at max during GBing always. We did learn later that there had been some fill brought in in some places.

Yesterday I hunted an old farm with a few guys, built 1900, now a modern homesite on acrerage. The detector break down was; my CZ3D, an At Pro, F75, Whites?, Cortes. I ran the 8" coil, sens @4, disc @1,This place was peppered with tiny iron, I had a constant iron chatter as did everyone except the AT Pro. Well, I ended with more coins than everyone, (almost $6, including 5 Sac dollars), a

Refreshing to hear about a place that is now open to metal detecting instead of becoming off limits to us. I hunted yesterday with a guy who is a Fisher dealer, he told me 2 things about Fisher's new machine; multi freq, December availibility, would not offer any more info..

Welcome to the site, I too was a Cz3D newbie last year. This site was a giant plus to getting started with it. THEROVER61 gave you one idea to help with the CZ's weight, I have mine hip mounted and some here use a chest harness, sure makes a big difference for me. I rarely use the meter and I X the target for pinpoint so accessing that button is only needed when I want a bit more target info

Agree with Dan, I wouldn't turn away from a unit that gets a solid 2 way on a dime @ 10-11". Heck mine was maxing @ 10-11", and the nickel I.D. was off, till it came back from Tom D. Thanks again Tom

Maybe you need wait a bit, if there is any truth to what I read in another forum today. Tom can you elaborate ?
"I'm not sure if you all have heard about the new CZ that will hopefully be released late this year or there abouts. It isn't advertised and it's better I don't say who said it, but it comes from a reliable person and I don't think it's actually

I bought mine used from a reputable dealer, I was able to air test it, so I knew I had one worth buying. After using it for a couple months, I sent it to Tom D for calibration, it's even better now.. You just need to keep an eye out for one, It took a few months for mine to turn up. As mentioned, you might take a look at the AT PRO.

I found the CZ heavy to swing for long hunts and belt mounted mine, works well that way. Several people have chest mounted them. You might want to try it if your neck continues to bother you.

I've got an old home site(1950), that was first hunted with a Vaquero, then a F5, and per Tom's advice, my recaled CZ3D. All three machines have crossed this property at least twice, 2nd time was 90 degrees to the first passes. Well it still coughs up coins and rings. I'm going to hit it again (if the rain ever quits) with the new 10.5 coil on my CZ. I would tell anyone with a new
