BADLY need old threads brought over to new forum
Re: BADLY need old threads brought over to new forum
All right, I have created a new thread on the Tarsacci MDT 8000, and the "Usage Notes" that I created from the old postings.
I couldn't immediately see a way the new forum software would let me post all the text (with its formatting) OR attach a couple of pdf files.
However, I was able to post a message with links to the two pdf files that are online on Steve Herschbach's Detector Prospector forum. If you click on those links, the pdf files should be downloaded to your computer, and you can view them.
It would be nice if this information will lead to more discussion of the Tarsacci MDT 8000 and/or new products that Dimitar creates!

Re: BADLY need old threads brought over to new forum
Thanks Tom.
Yes....... so far, only links have been able to be attached/presented on this new forum. pdf files (which can be downloaded) is more helpful; yet, I wonder if folks will still 'shun' from links/downloads. Let's see how this plays out!
Thanks for your efforts!

Re: BADLY need old threads brought over to new forum
I too wanted to post a PDF file of some of my saved Tarsacci notebook material but the new Forum will not allow for it.
This is a real limitation on any hoped for growth of the site. Quite disappointing.
I posted them on Detector Prospector Forum with no trouble.

Re: BADLY need old threads brought over to new forum
When this new forum is started out as a: Wiped-out "clean-slate".........and the 2-Decades of data from the old forum is all but gone.,.,.,.,.,.,., the new forum becomes ill-fated.
Re: BADLY need old threads brought over to new forum
I think if we were able to add attachments for docs & photos it would be much more utilized. And Like Button too. Links are great but limiting.

Re: BADLY need old threads brought over to new forum
I am just spitballing here, but...
If it is pretty much set in stone that the needed changes we had hoped for, for this forum, will NOT be made, and if we are considering the "old threads" as "all but lost," then what confines us to this "new" forum, that STILL does not serve our needs? Why are we "held hostage" here? Once we accept the very sad, frustrating, unfortunate situation that the "old" is essentially gone, then I see no need to remain confined to this forum -- prisoners to something that does not serve our needs.
We could move to a new server, a new url, and a new webmaster...and really create a much better site than what we currently have. YES, it's a shame that all of the "old" is essentially "gone." But GIVEN that it does seem to be "gone," why are we remaining confined to THIS forum, with it being essentially impossible to do any improvemments at all?
We could purchase a new URL -- called www.newdankowskiforum.com, or something like that. We could put it on a new server, and have someone (or a group of "someones") who knows how to set up and run a forum, become the "webmaster." There will be new detectors introduced in the future...new technology, and new things to talk about. And our "fearless leader" here has experience, perspectives, and technical knowledge that is unmatched, and that deserves an outlet -- for the good of the hobby.
Thoughts?

I like that idea. Why not multiple links for all the detectors. It would make it better and easier. No need for this forum to stay the way it is.

I am willing to contribute toward an entirely new Forum if needed. However, I think the current one can be upgraded. It may just be a matter of purchasing an upgraded version. The European & UK Metal Detecting Forum, which I also visit & belong to uses the same phpBB platform as this one. It has the ability to add file & photo attachments, and it has a Like Button. I would be happy to contribute toward an upgrade also. Wally has been good to us for a long time in the past. I am sorry he does not seem to be able to do as much now.

Chris,
The problem is, we can't do anything on this specific forum without the current webmaster doing so. He's the only one with the authority/ability to do so. It's not the software that is the issue; phpbb can do it, It's that we need someone (or several "someones") who is interested in doing what needs to be done to bring this "up to speed." And unfortunately, from my view, it means escaping from under the "dankowskidetectors" URL -- as that URL is fully under the control of someone who seems unwilling or unable...
